Old Christians GAA Club Notes:
In Memoriam:
We would like to extend our deepest heartfelt sympathies to the Toomey and Brown families on the passing of Anna Toomey née Brown, the wife of our club stalwart Ger. She will be fondly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ger and the family at this time. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Season Review:
We enjoyed a thrilling 2025 campaign, reaching the semi-finals of the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Hurling Championship. The season reflected real progress for the club, built on a solid foundation of resilience, teamwork, and consistent improvement across the panel.
Our junior hurlers opened their campaign with a hard-fought draw against near neighbours Claughaun, followed by a narrow but deserved win over Kildimo Pallaskenry in a pulsating high-scoring encounter. Despite a setback against Ballybricken Bohermore, we responded impressively, producing one of our best performances of the year to defeat Patrickswell in Crecora. A decisive victory over Killeedy then secured a place in the knockout stages.
In the quarter-final, a superb individual display from Kevin Howard powered us past the challenge of Garryspillane and booked a semi-final meeting with Castletown Ballyagran. Though we fell short on the day, Christians competed with determination and pride throughout. Several players made significant contributions across the season. Dylan Blackhall led the scoring charts with an outstanding return of 8-33, while Howard, Glen Hannon, Brian Cleere, and Dean Murray were central to key results. The mix of emerging talent and experienced figures provided balance and belief as the year progressed.
Reaching the last four marked a step forward for the club, reinforcing the sense of momentum and purpose within the group. With a strong core of players and renewed confidence, Old Christians will look to build on this foundation heading into 2026.
The club extends its thanks to all players, coaches, and supporters for their commitment throughout the season and congratulates Castletown Ballyagran, and we would like to wish them the very best in next week’s county final.
Underage Hurling Academy:
Training for our underage hurling academy continues on Thursday at 6 p.m. New members are always welcome, open to children from under-6s upward. We are always eager to have new faces involved; whether you’re interested in playing, coaching, or helping out, everyone is welcome at Old Christians.
Club Wedding:
We would all like to wish our heartiest congratulations to our club captain Conor Madden on his wedding celebration with his wife Ciara over the weekend. Conor has given Old Christians a lifetime of service and is a bona fide club legend for his performances and leadership both on and off the pitch. We wish Conor and Ciara every happiness as they begin this new chapter together.
