Na Piarsaigh GAA Club Notes:
Senior hurlers win league opener:
Our senior hurlers had a convincing win at home to Patrickswell last Thursday evening in the opening round of the league. With the league being brought forward to March this year, our lads had very few pitch sessions in the tank but they still put on a good show of hurling throughout the 60 minutes. The standout performers on the night were JJ Carey at midfield, chipping in with 4 points along with John Fitzgerald in the half forward line. Him coming away with 1-05 from play. The game also marked Alan Dempsey’s first league appearance since 2020, having been badgered with injury in recent seasons. Our next senior league fixture pits us against Ballybrown on Saturday the 22nd at 3pm, in Clarina.
Final score: Na Piarsaigh 2-29 Patrickswell 0-18. Team Evan Condon, Alan Dempsey, Emmet McEvoy, Sean Long, Mark O’Connor, Jerome Boylan, Kevin Downes (0-01), JJ Carey (0-04), Wayne Kearns (0-03), John Fitzgerald (1-05), William Henn (0-09, 0-06f), Conor Boylan (0-02), Keith Dempsey (0-04), Daithí Dempsey, Kevin Daly (1-00).

Intermediate hurlers off to a winning start:
Our intermediates put in a solid display on Saturday afternoon to get their league off to a winning start in Crecora. Their next outing is down for next Saturday at 3pm against Feohanagh in Páirc Uí Dromgúil. This is a direct clash with our seniors’ game against Ballybrown so we expect one of these to change. Please keep an eye on social media or ClubZap for all fixture updates. Final score Na Piarsaigh 3-23 Crecora 1-11. Team Darragh Jordan, San Harrington, Conor Richardson, Mike Andrews, Jack McCarthy (0-01), Padraic Heaney, Ronan Benson, John O’Keeffe (1-01), Kieran Daly (0-02), Pa O’Neill (0-09, 0-04f), Evan Sweeney (0-03), Louis Murphy, Mark Hogan (1-02), Andrew Stack (0-03), Steven Mitchell (1-01). Junior B hurlers draw in round 1:
Our junior B hurlers had to make do with a share of the spoils with visitors Caherline on Sunday afternoon following a tight affair played in Páirc Uí Dromgúil. We entered half time with a commanding 8-point lead but for Caherline to claw their way back into the game in the third quarter. We found ourselves 3 points to the good with time almost up but our opponents were highly efficient with their last few possessions, and duly clawed back a draw. Notable displays on day from the O’Tiarnaigh brothers, with Ger at 6 and John at 11, along with minors Brian Connolly and Adam Fitzsimons. The latter burying a great goal just before half time following some excellent build-up play from Leon Power. Steven Mitchell scored our opening goal, adding to his 1-01 scored the day before for the intermediates.
Our next game is down for next Sunday at 12pm, at home to Fedamore. Final score Na Piarsaigh 2-13 Caherline 2-13. Team Podge Kennedy, Brian Connolly, Jack McCarthy, Jason Ronan, Adam Fitzsimons (1-02), Ger O’Tiarnaigh, Adam Jordan, Conor McLaughlin (0-02), Leon Power, Conor Stack (0-01), John O’Tiarnaigh (0-05), James Linnane, Colm Downey (0-01), Steven Mitchell (1-02), Ben O’Regan. Junior footballers get first win of campaign:
Our junior footballers claimed their first win of the league with a well-deserved victory at home to Mungret/St Pauls last Wednesday night. Daniel Collins claimed a hat trick of goals on the night.
