FEILE NA NGAEL 2019

Our under 14 butlers made their long awaited trip to Cork last Fridsy to represent Limerick at the Feile na nGael.
We met with our host club Erin’s Own who were excellent all weekend.
First up for the lads were our namesake Na Piarsaigh of Cork on Friday evening in the Na Piarsaigh grounds.
This was a ding dong battle with a majority of our scores coming from Bradley Moran and Josh Sheehan form frees.
We began the game slowly and were 5 points to 1 down inside the first 10mins.
However we battled back and a goal from Josh Sheehan drew us level on 15 minutes.
We conceded a goal ourselves on the stroke of half time to trail at the break 1-7 to 1-4
A great start to the second half and a second Josh Sheehan goal brought us level again but a hometown dubious decision of a clear square ball allowed our opponents in for their second goal.
We now trailed by 5 points entering the closing stages but we showed tremendous battling qualities to slowly chip into the lead.
We missed some golden opportunities to draw level if not win the game but unfortunately we missed those chances.
In spite of our best efforts the final whistle blew with Na Piarsaigh Cork the victors 2-9 to 2-8.
Scorers: Josh Sheehan 2-4, Bradley Moran 0-2, Ger O Tiarnaigh 0-1, Brian Kelly 0-1.
Shortly after this we made our way to pitch 2 and a meeting with Dicksboro of Kilkenny .
Again we got off to a good start with a goal from Josh Sheehan but again we conceded immediately to be all square.
Some good points put us back in command but again we conceded to be 1-3 to 2-0 at the break.
We again hit the front with 2 excellent points but as they say goals win games and unfortunately we conceded 2 very quick goals to leave it 4-1 to 1-5.
Try as we might to claw back the deficit it wasnt to be and two more goals wrapped up the contest on a 6-1 to 1-7 scoreline.
Scorers were Josh Sheehan 1-3, Bradley Moran 0-3, Mark Hogan 0-1.
Our third group game on Saturday saw us head to Caherlag and a game against our hosts Erin’s Own.
After another tough battle it was Erins Own who came out on top 1-9 to 1-5..Our scorers were Josh Sheehan 0-5 Sam Murray 1-0.
Those results meant a quarter spot in the Shield competiton against Naas.
We were very much in this game right up to the final whistle where we led by the precarious 2 points only to succumb to a goal at the death to leave it Naas 1-6 Na Piarsaigh 1-5.
Scorers Josh Sheehan 0-5 Jack Kinsella 1-0.
Overall a disappointing end for the lads but nevertheless an experience that will stand to them going forward.
We thank all the players management , parents volunteers who helped throughout the year. We also wish to acknowledge our hosts Erin’s Own who incidentally won the Shield competition.
For the record our squad of players were Ronan Benson, Kevin Bourke, Richard Curtin, Padraig Duggan, James Finn, Thomas Fitzgerald, Eoghan Halvey, Mark Hogan, Daragh Jordan, Sam Jordan, Brian Kelly, Jack Kinsella, Gerard Maher, Matthew McGann, Stephen McKeown, Bradley Moran, Tadhg Mullane, Sam Murray, Eoin OCallaghan , John O Keefe, Gerard O Tiarnaigh, John O Tiarnaigh, Daire Patton, Luke Shinnors, Josh Sheehan(capt)..
