SENIOR HURLERS
Congratulations to our senior hurlers who are back in a County final following a very good victory over a spirited South Liberties team.
Played in wet conditions in Kilmallock on Saturday we got off to a tentative start and drove a few wides as the ring rust appeared evident early on.
However we soon found our groove and began to hurl well.
Points from Adrian Breen 3 from play along with 3 pointed frees from Kevin Downes and a single from Conor Boylan and Keith Dempsey had us up by three points at the break having played with a strong breeze. A tad bit concerning no doubt but as is always the case the focus is always on our process and we duly trusted our ability and hard work to see us through.
In the second half we really knuckled down and began to pick off some great scores.
Our backs were excellent, especially in the second half against the wind with a long ball coming in which was dealt with extremely well.
Mike Foley was on loads of ball and contributed two fine points into the mix. Behind him, the full-back line of Jerome, Mike, and Emmet was solid throughout laying a platform for the team.
Further up the field, the lads worked tirelessly winning vital possessions and picking off some excellent scores.
The score of the game was no doubt the movement and clinical finish of David Dempsey’s goal to seal an excellent second-half display.
We now face Kilmallock in the decider in two weeks’ time where nothing less than a top-notch display will do.
So it’s back to the training field for the next 2 weeks to prepare for our 10th county final appearance in 13 years.
We look forward to it in earnest for what will be another great day for the club.
Incidentally, the game will be the first on the newly laid pitch in the TUS Gaelic Grounds with a 430pm throw in live on TG4
