NA PIARSAIGH

SENIOR HURLERS
Round 2 of the County senior hurling championship saw us paired with last years champions Kilmallock on Saturday night in Doon.
A fine crowd in attendance on a splendid night for hurling.
Following last week’s slow start it was evident from the throw-in that the lads were ready and inside the first eight minutes we had registered 5 points, 3 from Kevin Downes from placed balls along with one each from Adrian Breen and Peter Casey. Things were going quite well and a couple of further points from Downsie and Mike Houlihan from Kilmallock had the game at 7 points to 3. The Kilmallock goalie pulled off a great save from Peter Casey on 15 minutes but a few minutes later he could do nothing about a bullet from David Dempsey 1-7 to 0-3.
Further points from Will Henn(2), Will O Donoghue, and Kevin Downes(2) sent us into the break 5 points up 1-12 to 0-10.
The second half began well and Keith Dempsey stretched our lead with an excellent point which was quickly cancelled out by 3 Kilmallock points..
Ronan Lynch landed a long-range free to restore the lead before 1-2 without reply had our opponents in front.
It was nip and tuck for the last 10 minutes with scores at a premium. David Dempsey, Kevin Downes, Mike Foley, and Adrian Breen all added points to increase our tally. The Kilmallock netminder pulled off two point blank saves at a crucial stage also
The game could have swung either way in the finish but thankfully we saw it out on a 1-19 to 1-18 score line to go into the mini-break with 4 points on the board.
Overall, a good performance from the team and yet plenty to work on and improve in the coming weeks.
Next up for the lads is Patrickswell in 3 weeks’ time

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS
On the Sunday evening our 2nd string hurlers made the short journey to Claughaun to take on Caherline in Round 2 of the Intermediate championship.
Buoyed by the last gasp victory in week 1 over Feohanagh the lads were keen to keep the good form going.
We were 3 points to the good inside 7 minutes with points from Pat Gleeson, Kieran Daly and a free from SHane Dowling.
Two Caherline points made it 4 to 2 before four unanswered points from David Sheppard, Pat Gleeson(2) and Evan Sweeney.
Caherline answered with 3 points of their own but 3 further points from Gleeson, Sweeney and Sheppard had us 10 points to 8 up at the half time whistle.
We powered into the second half and 2 brilliant John Fitzgerald points drove us on.
Evan Gilvarry also sprung into scoring life with two points of his own before substitute Dylan Lynch rattled the net with a goal on 45 minutes.
Points from Marcus Hogan and Dylan Lynch stretched the lead with the icing on the cake coming from Evan Gilvarry with a goal on full time.
