MUNGRET ST. PAUL’S GAA CLUB NOTES.

FEILE FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 7-16 Bruff 0-1
This match was a great start and exactly what the players needed in their opening match to the Feile.
Mungret 2-5 Fr Casey’s 1-8
This proved a tougher match while Fr. Caseys had a chance to relax after their first match Mungret St. Pauls had to dig deep to get over the finish line and top their group which is where they wanted.
The team overall put in a great team effort and were rewarded. They now play Monaleen in the Semi final on Sunday 7 April time and venueto be confirmed.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 1-10 Mountcollins 0-9
The Bog Garden in Rathkeale was the setting for the first round of the Championship for the Limerick Motor Centre sponsored Intermediate footballers as they took on Mountcollins on Saturday 30 march 2019.
The weather had cooled but stayed dry as Mungret St. Pauls had a deserved but hard fought win over Mountcollins.
Mungret St. Pauls were first on the attack as they put over the opening score. Our backs were put under pressure as Mountcollins struck for what looked like a definite goal only to be expertly broke down by our goalie. Another great point from Mungret St. Pauls lead to Mountcollins getting onto the score board with their first point.
Mungret St. Pauls deflected a shot that seemed destined for their net, with Mountcollins keeping the pressure on the backs their next shots were sent wide. Once the ball reached the opposite end Mungret St.Pauls pushed through the defense and racked up point and well taken
goal to give them a comfortable lead of 5 points. Mountcollins eventually got into the game and came back with 2 points. There was another point a piece before the half time whistle.
The second half was not what anyone could have expected, Mungret St. Pauls came out firing points from all angles going 7 points ahead.
Mountcollins was slowly edging back with 2 pointed frees either side of another great save on goal. This saw the third quarter end and a stop in play as one of the Mountcollins players after going for a high
ball fell in pain. There was a half hour intermission as everyone waited for an ambulance to see to Stephen Beehan who we would like to wish well on his recovery. With the light failing the game resumed and
Mountcollins took control of the play as they narrowed Mungret St.Pauls lead with 3 consecutive points but Mungret St. Pauls did not sit back and in the final minutes of the game secured their lead with 2 points from frees.
It has to be said the outstanding goalkeeping underpinned the victory for Mungret St. Pauls as they accepted their first win in the Championship. They are next out on Sunday 7 April in Kilmallock when they play Galtee Gaels.
