Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:
Movember:
Well done to all our members who took part in Movember 2025, there were some very impressive tashes on show during the month. We are delighted to let you know that just under €3000 was raised with your help for Milford Hospice in honour of a dear friend and clubman, Joe Harrington, who sadly passed away in October 2022. If you have not done so you can still donate on the following link. https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/mungretstpauls
Junior A Camogie:
Hard Luck to Our Junior Camogie Team who had a tough day at the office on Saturday as they bowed out of the Munster Championship after a hard-fought battle against a very strong Brian Borus side in the Munster semi-final. The girls left everything on the pitch and represented the club with pride from first whistle to last. Well done to Sinead Madden, who led the team with great heart and determination as captain on the day. A sincere thank you to everyone involved in welcoming the travelling supporters — the hospitality shown in the community centre was fantastic and greatly appreciated by all. Full time score: Mungret St. Pauls 1-5(8) Brian Borus 4-15(27)
Ladies Football:
Minor Championship Semi Final, Galtee Gaels v Mungret. With an early throw in at Kilbeheney, It was GalteeGaels who got off to the better start. Mungret were against the wind and despite being 5 points down at half time, a ferocious effort was put in for the 2nd half. Mungret were tenacious and showed fantastic team spirit throughout. The first goal of the game in the 3rd quarter, started a real rally, along with a few nicely taken points. This minor team never gave up, never lost heart, another goal in the net for Mungret with a few minutes to go. It was a display of great football, and a real positive attitude, but alas time was against the ladies in red and it was the home side who came away with the spoils. Well done to the all female management for taking on this team, Carol Bateman, Shannon Burke, Roisin Duffy, Claire O Meara, Lisa Reilly and Aine Ryan all of which are current club players.
Final score Galtee Gaels 0.15 Mungret 2.07
Well done to Maria Conway, Sive Finnerty, Sadhbh Hanley, Sophie Lynch, Sophia Neville and Eilis O Neill, who have been selected for the County U16 Teams in 2026.
U20 Premier Hurling Semi Final:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-26 Monaleen 0-15
Mungret St. Pauls powered their way into the U-20 Premier Hurling Championship Final with a commanding and composed performance in the Gaelic Grounds on Tuesday 25 November 2025, overcoming Monaleen by fourteen points and booking a well-deserved place in Sunday’s decider against Na Piarsaigh.
From the throw-in, Mungret St. Pauls tore into the game with intensity and accuracy. Within six minutes the scoreboard read 0-6 to 0-0, thanks to a flurry of excellent points from play and a confidently struck 45. The early accuracy and work rate put Monaleen immediately
on the back foot, forcing them to chase a game that Mungret St. Pauls were intent on controlling.
Even when Monaleen opened their account in the 5th minute, Mungret St.Pauls responded instantly with another pair of well-worked scores, stretching the lead to 0-8 to 0-1 by the 7-minute mark. A superb sideline cut further highlighted the skill on show and kept Mungret
St. Pauls firmly in command. Monaleen enjoyed their best spell in the second quarter, landing six points to narrow the gap to three at one stage. But every time pressure came on, Mungret St. Pauls answered. Points from play a 45 and consistent defensive organisation ensured Mungret St. Pauls never lost their foothold in the game. A strong finish to the half—with two
more points restored a five-point interval advantage: 0-14 to 0-9. If the first half showed Mungret St. Pauls sharpness, the second half showcased their maturity. Monaleen reduced the margin to three early on in the second half, but from there on, Mungret St. Pauls completely
took over. Scores from play and frees pushed the margin out steadily, with the work rate never dipping. By the 20-minute mark, Mungret St. Pauls held a commanding 0-20 to 0-14 lead.
The decisive moment arrived in the 22nd minute. A flowing move cut through the Monaleen defence, and Mungret St. Pauls finished to the net with precision, making it 1-21 to 0-14. From there, the result was beyond doubt.
Mungret St. Pauls closed out the game in style, adding another four points from play and one from a free to complete a dominant second-half showing. The final whistle confirmed a superb team performance from start to finish—disciplined at the back, industrious
in midfield, and clinical up front—sending Mungret St. Pauls into the U-20 Premier Hurling Final on Sunday, 30 December 2025, where Na Piarsaigh await.
A place in the county final is earned, not given—and this group earned it emphatically.
U20 Premier Hurling Final:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-15 Na Piarsaigh 1-10
Mungret St. Pauls were crowned U-20 Premier Hurling Champions in Mick Neville Park on Sunday 30 November 2025 after a composed, disciplined, and ultimately decisive performance saw them defeat Na Piarsaigh by 2-15 to 1-10. It was a victory built on resilience early on, dominance in the middle third, and the clinical finishing that defined this
remarkable group all season. The weather made play slippy but both teams adjusted to the conditions. Na Piarsaigh opened the scoring, but Mungret St. Pauls settled quickly. Two frees from the reliable Mark O’Brien had the sides level before the first major moment of the final arrived. In the 11th minute, Luke Walsh pounced on a breaking ball and rifled home the
opening goal, igniting the Mungret St. Pauls support. Moments later, Rory O’Callaghan added a superb point from play to push the lead to four. John Wright stretched the advantage further with a well-taken score on 15 minutes as Mungret St. Pauls controlled the physical exchanges. Na Piarsaigh kept in touch through frees, but Mark O’Brien delivered
again before the break—this time with an outstanding sideline cut followed by a long-range 65. Mungret St. Pauls went in at half time deservedly ahead, 1-7 to 0-4, after a composed and mature opening half.
The second half began with the same confidence. Mark O’Brien split the posts from play after three minutes to extend the lead, and though Na Piarsaigh responded, O’Brien’s frees helped maintain a six-point cushion entering the middle period of the half. On 15 minutes came the turning point that would ultimately seal the title. A sweeping move saw Killian Begley burst through before offloading to Mark O’Brien, who buried the ball to the net to make it 2-10 to 0-7. Even when Na Piarsaigh hit back with a goal of their own three minutes later, Mungret St. Pauls remained sharp and composed. Begley, growing stronger as the game went on, added a point from play to steady the ship.
As Na Piarsaigh chased the game, Mungret St. Pauls discipline told O’Brien tapped over frees to keep the scoreboard ticking and in injury time Begley tacked on another brilliant point from play to seal the win. The final whistle sparked huge celebrations as Mungret St.
Pauls lifted the county title on a proud day for the parish. Captain Fintan Fitzgerald accepted the cup on behalf of the panel, thanking Na Piarsaigh for a great contest, acknowledging the coaches, players, supporters, county board and club, and giving a heartfelt mention to the late Joe Harrington, a man who had played a central role in this group’s development. He finished his speech with a rousing “Up the Parish!”
Centre-back Sean Duff capped a towering performance by deservedly claiming Man of the Match, anchoring the defence with composure and leadership throughout.
The celebrations rolled on long into the night in Mungret, as the players, mentors, families, and supporters toasted a wonderful achievement by an exceptional group of young men. Up the Parish!
