Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:Sarsfield Cup:
The Limerick City met West Limerick in the final of the Sarsfield Cup on Wednesday November 19 in the Gaelic Grounds where they were unlucky in the result, well done to all the players and congratulations to the West.
Primary Schools:
Well done to the eight fantastic Mungret St Pauls players Kate, Ailbhe, Orla, Ellen, Roisín, Íseult, Nessa and Grace who were part of the East Limerick and Limerick City Primary school girls’ teams. They played in the semi-finals on Thursday 13th November in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale. The City played the South and the East played the West. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the City Team’s way on the day, but they have a lot to be proud of and played a great game. The East team had a brilliant win over the West team and they will now face the South team in the final on Wednesday 19th November. This will be played in the Gaelic Grounds at 6pm. Well done to all the girls and best of luck to the East team in the final. Our Junior Ladies Football captain, Lisa is also a coach on the East Team, wishing you the best of luck!
Minor Ladies Football:
Mungret St Pauls 5-12 Fr Caseys 3:05
Huge well done to our U19s who had a great win over Fr Caseys in their final group game. They girls travelled to Abbeyfeale for their match at 10am on Sunday 16th November. It was a must win game for the team to secure their spot in the A Cup semi-final and they did just that. Captain, Emma O’Rourke lead her team from the get go and the Mungret girls looked like they were up for the challenge from the minute the ball was thrown in. They fought for every ball, showed great patience and resilience and made sure they were not coming home without the win. Well done to all involved and it was great to see so many supporters there on the day to cheer the girls on. Their semi-final is scheduled for this Sunday, 23rd November against Galtee Gaels at 10am. The very best of luck. As always all support is greatly appreciated.
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-2 Dingle 2-15
Mungret St. Pauls’ historic first Munster Senior Club Football semi-final appearance ended in disappointment in Austin Stacks Park in Tralee, on Sunday 23 November 2025, as an exceptional Dingle side controlled proceedings from start to finish. A difficult afternoon, compounded by a first-half headwind that frustratingly faded once the teams swapped ends, saw the Limerick champions fall 2-15 to 0-2.
Playing into a fierce breeze, Mungret St. Pauls were immediately forced onto the back foot. Dingle struck for a goal inside two minutes, a well-worked move that set the tone for what became relentless Kerry pressure.
By the 7th minute the deficit had stretched to seven points, Dingle clipping over scores at will and adding a rare two-point effort from play. Mungret St. Pauls battled gamely around the middle, but every clearance seemed to hold up in the gale while Dingle’s counters cut through with pace and precision.
Despite heroic defensive efforts, further points saw the Kerry men take a commanding 1-8 to 0-0 lead at the break. The hope among the travelling support was that the strong breeze might offer a lifeline.
Unfortunately, that hope ebbed away quickly as conditions calmed significantly during the interval, instead of assisting a Mungret St. Pauls fightback, the now-softened wind made little impact on the pattern of play. Dingle resumed control, pushing the lead to 12 points by the with two more scores from play.
A second Dingle goal pushed the gap to 16, and with confidence flowing, the Kerry champions tagged on further points.
Mungret St. Pauls first score of the afternoon came on 16 minutes – a well-struck free from Tom Lloyd, greeted with warm applause from the loyal Red Army who never stopped urging their side on. Dingle responded again to make it 2-15.
Mungret St. Pauls final say came from Luke Walsh, who converted a late free in the 28th minute to bring the tally to 0-2, but by then the contest had long slipped from reach.
While the scoreboard painted a harsh picture, the Mungret St. Pauls players showed admirable commitment, discipline, and character throughout. On a day when little went right—between the early concession, the disappearing wind, and a top-class opponent—this Munster journey still marks significant progress for the club.
Reaching a Senior Munster semi-final for the first time is an achievement in itself, and the experience gained will undoubtedly stand to this young, ambitious group. The support in Tralee was immense, and the pride in the red jersey remains undiminished. Mungret St. Pauls will regroup, reflect, and return stronger. The future is bright, well done to all.
