Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-12 Newcastle West 1-5
Historic Day for Mungret St. Pauls.
After a 24-year wait, Mungret St. Pauls have finally reclaimed their place at the summit of Limerick football. On a crisp Sunday afternoon, 9 November 2025, in Mick Neville Park, they produced a composed and disciplined performance to dethrone favourites Newcastle West and lift the County Senior Football Championship title for the first time in the club’s history.
The last time Mungret St. Pauls appeared in a senior final was back in 2001, when they fell short against Dromcollogher-Broadford. But this time, there was to be no heartbreak. With a blend of youthful energy and experienced leadership, the men in red and white delivered a display of patience, precision, and belief to see off Newcastle West.
Mungret St. Pauls settled into the contest quicker, showing intent despite a nervy opening few minutes where Newcastle West registered three wides. John Hutton opened the scoring on five minutes with a free to calm Mungret St. Pauls nerves. Moments later, James Killian clipped over from play to make it 0-2 to 0-0 after eight minutes.
Newcastle West responded with two quick points of their own, but Mungret St. Pauls were determined not to relinquish control. Darragh O’Sullivan restored the lead with a clever fisted effort before Hutton again found his range from a free on 24 minutes. Shane Barry added another from play to give Mungret St. Pauls a deserved 0-5 to 0-3 lead at the break — a scoreline that reflected their work rate and compact defensive shape.
Any fears of a Newcastle West comeback were dampened early in the second half as Mungret St. Pauls pushed the tempo. Oisín Moss opened the scoring after just two minutes, and when Brendan Giltenane struck a superb two-point effort from play on 36 minutes, Mungret St. Pauls led 0-8 to 0-3.
However, Newcastle West, were never going to fold easily. They struck for a goal on 45 minutes to reduce the deficit to two points, setting up a tense final quarter.
In years past, that moment might have rattled Mungret St Pauls, not this team. John Hutton steadied the ship once more with his third free of the day on 51 minutes, before Diarmaid Hynes fired over a fine score from play to stretch the lead to four.
Newcastle West tried to mount one final push, but a resolute Mungret St. Pauls defence absorbed the pressure. Frank Corcoran popped up with a crucial score on 60 minutes to make it 0-11 to 1-4. Though Newcastle West hit back, Hutton’s late free in added time sealed a famous four-point victory.
When the final whistle sounded, scenes of jubilation erupted among the Mungret St. Pauls supporters who have waited more than two decades for a day like this. Manager Kevin O’Hagan hailed his side’s composure and defensive solidity.
The celebrations will be well-earned, but focus will soon turn to the next challenge — a Munster semi-final clash with Kerry champions Dingle in Tralee on Sunday, November 23rd.
For now, though, Mungret St. Pauls can savour the sweetest of victories — county champions for the first time.
Well done to Darragh O’Sullivan who was awarded the Man of the match. Captain, John Hutton accepted the Fr. Casey cup from Gerry McNamara on behalf of the team.

Grow a Mo for Joe:
Mungret St. Paul’s continue to remember with great fondness our dear friend and clubman Joe Harrington, who sadly passed away in October 2022. Joe was a passionate GAA man — a loyal supporter of our club, always willing to volunteer, and even took part in our Movember campaign back in 2013. His passing left an immense void felt by his family, friends and Mungret St. Pauls, but Joe’s warmth, kindness, and spirit continue to inspire us all.
Joe’s wife Aileen, and children Liam, J.J., and Rosa, remain deeply grateful for the kindness and support shown by the exceptional care provided by the staff at Milford Hospice during Joe’s illness and afterwards.
This November 2025, our players and community are once again coming together for a special fundraiser — Grow a Mo for Joe — in memory of Joe and in support of Milford Hospice, the charity chosen by the Harrington family.
We’re asking everyone in the club and beyond to Grow a Mo for Joe this November, donate what you can, and help us support the incredible work Milford Hospice does for families like the Harringtons.
Make your donation and spread the word via our I donate page — together, we can make a difference in Joe’s memory.

U21 Limerick Football:
At half-time of the Senior Football Final, the Limerick U-21 Football Champions of 2000 were honoured. Mungret St. Pauls were proud to have Brian Begley and Eoin Rice among the players, with Brian Kelly part of the management team and Donal Fitzgibbon serving on the county board at the time. Congratulations to all the players and management who were part of that memorable panel.
