Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

County Players:
U15 Limerick Camogie: Well done to the Limerick Camogie Squad who took part in the National Blitz this weekend.
The MSPCamogie girls donned the green and white and headed to Cappamore & Cahir GAA for a busy day of games!
Congratulations to the Limerick 2 team who beat a strong Kilkenny in the shield final and came away with the silverware!
Chloe McAuliffe, Lucy Barry, Eilis O’Neill, Saoirse Browne
Well done to all the Academy hurlers who took to various pitches on Saturday 30 August 2025 in their last matches of 2025.
The U-14 hurlers representing Mungret St. Paul’s, Thomas Slavin and Jack Houlihan, travelled to Waterford for the prestigious Tony Forrestal Tournament. Despite battling through very testing weather conditions, both players gave outstanding performances. Unfortunately, they were narrowly defeated by Mid Tipp and East Cork. Meanwhile, the other Limerick U-14 team progressed to the semi-final stage, but were also unlucky to fall short against East Cork.
At U-15 level, Sean Donnelly lined out with Limerick in Boherlahan, Co. Tipperary. Their opening clash against Cork 1 was a thriller, going to extra time before the Leesiders edged it at the death. Limerick then faced Cork 2, and once again, despite a battling display in tough conditions, victory slipped away by the narrowest of margins.
There was brighter news from the academy at U-16 level, where Limerick enjoyed great success. In Dublin, one team secured fine wins over Antrim and Clare, capturing the Michael Foley Shield. In Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny, the other Limerick side were desperately unlucky to lose by a single pointed free against the hosts. However, they bounced back in style to defeat Westmeath in the Shield Final. Well done to Mungret St. Paul’s Ruairí Dwane in that victory.
Well done to all our players who proudly represented both Mungret St. Paul’s and Limerick across hurling and football this year. With the conclusion of the academy fixtures for 2025, we would like to acknowledge the huge honour it is for any player to wear the county jersey. The club is immensely proud of your achievements.

U16A Camogie:
Hard luck to our U16A team who lost the county semi final last Thursday night away to Monaleen. The Mungret girls battled hard throughout. Referee Dan McKenna, Capt Lorna. Horgan.
U14 Camogie:
Our U14 Thomond team welcomed Cappamore to #MSPCamogie HQ last Monday for the latest round of the Championship. The girls captained by Sophie Ryan put in a good shift overseen by Referee Philip Dee, although Cappamore got the win, the girls battled through to the end. The girls efforts have won them a place in the Shield Final, so keep an eye on ClubZap for fixture confirmation.
U14 Camogie:
Our U14 Mackey Squad welcomed Bruff to Mungret last Tuesday night for the final around of the championship. The girls were delighted to come away with the win.
Captain on the night was Sadhbh Hanley and referee was Philip Dee.
This team now head into the Shield Final, so keep an eye on ClubZap for fixture confirmation.
Ladies Football:
Well done to the Junior B team who played a challenge match against Cappagh on Sunday 24th August. They will play each other again in the championship in a couple of weeks time. It was great to see three sets of sisters lined out on the team playing side by side.

Senior Ladies Football:
Mungret 0-05 Monagea 2-06
Well done to our Senior Ladies football team who played their second match in the group stages of the Senior Championship. They were away to Monagea on Saturday 23rd August. Despite the final result not going their way, this team put in a ferocious effort and a very strong team performance. Monagea lead at half time 0-05 to 0-03, Mungret’s Grainne Mckenna scored two points from frees with Emma O’Rourke scoring one from play. Mungret were unlucky with the weather conditions taking a turn in the second half and had to play into a very bright and low lying sun making it difficult to differentiate between the Mungret and Monagea colours, nevertheless they scored another free taken by Grainne McKenna and Tara Kate Geoghegan scored a wonderful point from play. Substitutions were made in the second half with Yvette Culhane, Megan O’Malley and Fiona Morrissey taking over for Emma O’Rourke, Jayne Casey and Clare O’Meara and having a big impact. Monagea scored two goals in quick succession meaning they were winners on the day but overall a very positive and spirited game for the Mungret ladies. They will lay Feohanagh Castlemahon this Thursday, 28th August at home at 7pm. Best of luck to all involved. All support is welcome.
Junior B Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 6-20 Claughaun 0-12
Mungret St. Paul’s Junior B hurlers produced a dominant performance in Claughaun on Monday evening, 25 August 2025, running out comprehensive winners. From the throw-in, the visitors showed their intent, moving the ball quickly and taking scores from all angles, while the defence held firm to limit Claughaun’s chances.
The opening quarter set the tone, with Mungret St. Pauls racking up early points and striking for two well-taken goals to build a commanding lead. The forwards worked tirelessly, creating space and linking play, while the midfield pairing controlled possession, ensuring a steady supply of ball into the attack.
By half-time, Mungret St. Pauls had already put daylight between the sides, converting chances with efficiency and keeping Claughaun pinned back. The second half saw more of the same, with the red and white jersey relentless in their pressure. A further four goals followed after the restart, each one the product of clever build-up play and sharp finishing. Claughaun, to their credit, battled bravely throughout and picked off some fine points, but they struggled to break down a Mungret St. Pauls defence that worked as a unit and cleared their lines with authority. A fine team display, built on work rate, accuracy, and commitment, leaves Mungret St. Paul’s in the middle of the table with 1 game left to play.
U16 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-10 Fr. Caseys 0-10
Mungret St. Pauls U-16 Division 1 footballers showed grit, patience, and determination to overturn a four-point half-time deficit and secure a hard-fought three-point win over Fr. Caseys on home turf on Monday evening, 25 August 2025.
The visitors started brighter, taking control of the opening quarter. Despite Mungret St. Pauls work rate, Fr. Caseys found their range early, clipping over three points without reply by the 13th minute. Mungret St. Pauls got off the mark through a well-struck free on 15 minutes, but Fr. Caseys continued to press, adding two more scores to stretch their lead.
A crucial turning point came on 22 minutes when Mungret St. Pauls broke forward with intent and finished to the net with precision, bringing the home crowd to life and dragging the hosts back into contention. However, Fr. Caseys steadied themselves and finished the half strongly, adding a trio of points before the break to leave the score at Mungret St. Pauls 1-1 Fr. Caseys 0-8.
The second half was a different story. Mungret St. Pauls, roared on by the home support and with a breeze helping them, tightened up in defence and began to dominate around the middle third. After conceding an early point, Mungret St. Pauls grew in confidence, hitting five unanswered scores to edge into the lead for the first time in the contest.
Fr. Caseys responded with a free to reduce the deficit to one, but Mungret St. Pauls were not to be denied. In the closing stages, the home side pressed forward relentlessly. Three further points in quick succession pushed Mungret St. Pauls clear. The defence stood tall in the final minutes to ensure there would be no late Fr. Caseys comeback.
At the final whistle, Mungret St. Paul’s had outscored their opponents 0-9 to 0-2 in the second half – a testament to their resilience, belief, and collective spirit. This win leaves Mungret St. Pauls in the middle of the table awaiting the Final fixtures.
U14 Division 1&2 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls U-14 footballers delivered a performance full of energy, teamwork, and sharp finishing when they welcomed Athea to Mungret on Thursday 28 August 2025. From the very first attack, the home side settled quickly into their rhythm, opening the scoring inside the opening minute and following it up almost immediately with a well-taken goal.
Confidence grew from there, as Mungret St. Pauls worked the ball cleverly through the lines, adding a string of fine points from play. Midway through the half, their pressure told again when two quick-fire goals arrived in succession, giving the team a strong platform going into the break.
On the restart, Mungret St. Pauls showed no signs of easing up. A flurry of early scores, in the space of a minute, underlined their dominance. The defence, meanwhile, stood firm, keeping Athea at bay for long spells and breaking forward to set up further scoring opportunities. The second half continued in the same vein, with more scores rounding off a fine evening’s football for Mungret St. Pauls.
This was a display built on hard work all over the pitch – disciplined defending, relentless running in midfield, and clinical finishing up front. Every player contributed, and the togetherness of the group was evident in the way they supported each other in both attack and defence.
It was an excellent team performance that leaves Mungret St. Paul’s in a strong position in the competition and full of confidence heading into their next outing. This win leaves Mungret St. Pauls in the middle of the table and in the Division 1 Shield Final at the end of September against Na Piarsaigh.
Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-18 Kildimo Pallaskenry 0-10
Mungret St. Paul’s senior hurlers produced a superb second-half display to see off neighbours Kildimo Pallaskenry in Clarina on Friday 29 August 2025, sealing an impressive 1-18 to 0-10 victory built on work rate, accuracy, and a clinical burst after the interval.
The opening half was a tight and cagey affair, with both sides exchanging scores and little to separate them. Mungret St. Pauls made the brighter start, striking the opening point inside two minutes and building a three-point lead by the 13th minute thanks to some well-taken efforts from play. Kildimo Pallaskenry, however, found their rhythm midway through the half, hitting four points on the bounce to edge in front. Mungret St. Pauls steadied themselves with scores from a free and play late on, and the sides went in level at the break at 0-6 apiece – all to play for with Mungret St. Pauls set to play down the slope in the second half.
That advantage was seized upon immediately. Within two minutes of the restart, Mungret St. Pauls struck the game’s only goal, a decisive finish after a strong attacking move, and the momentum swung firmly in their favour. A quick point followed, and from there Mungret St. Pauls grew in confidence, picking off scores from all angles.
The forwards combined cleverly, showing variety in their play, while the midfield duo imposed themselves with relentless energy. Mungret St. Pauls accuracy was a feature, hitting a string of unanswered points that stretched the lead and left Kildimo Pallaskenry chasing the game.
By the final quarter, Mungret St. Pauls were in full control, their defence standing resolute and turning over possession time and again. Further scores flowed in the closing stages, ensuring the result was beyond doubt.
It was a commanding team performance, marked by discipline at the back, dominance around the middle third, and sharp finishing up front. After a level first half, Mungret St. Pauls showed their class and composure to power home in the second period and claim a fully deserved win. This was a much needed win with one game left to go with Mungret St. Pauls sitting in third place with one more game to go.
Intermediate Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-10 Bruree 1-20
Mungret St. Pauls endured a difficult afternoon in Claughaun as Bruree’s strong start proved decisive in this Intermediate Hurling Championship clash on Sunday 31 August 2025. Despite a spirited second-half rally that briefly reignited hopes, Mungret St. Pauls were ultimately left chasing a deficit that had grown too large in the opening stages.
From the throw-in, Bruree immediately seized control, registering the first four points without reply in the opening minutes. Mungret St. Pauls finally got off the mark in the seventh minute through a free, but Bruree responded instantly and continued to pick off scores both from play and placed balls.
By the 20th minute, the scoreboard read 0-2 to 0-10, underlining the dominance of Bruree’s forward line, who were clinical in their shooting. Mungret St. Pauls did manage to settle somewhat as the half wore on, with points from both frees and open play helping to steady the ship, but Bruree still carried a commanding 0-12 to 0-5 lead into the break.
Mungret St. Pauls needed a fast restart but it was Bruree who struck first again, stretching their advantage to eight points. Mungret St. Pauls did respond with frees of their own, keeping the scoreboard moving, yet Bruree continued to keep them at arm’s length with accurate shooting.
The turning point – and the highlight for Mungret St. Pauls – arrived in the 42nd minute when a well-worked move was finished to the net, (1-7 to 0-17). For a brief spell, the momentum shifted, and points from a free and from play narrowed the gap further to six. The crowd sensed a comeback.
However, just as Mungret St. Pauls were threatening to reel their opponents in, Bruree struck for a crucial goal in the 51st minute. That sucker punch pushed the margin back out to nine and effectively killed the contest. Despite a late point from play in injury time to bring the tally to 1-10, Bruree had already powered clear, closing out the match with a flurry to win by ten. For Mungret St. Pauls, this was a day where the slow start left too much ground to make up. The defence was put under relentless pressure in the first half, and while the forwards showed glimpses of quality – especially around the goal and in the second-half spell where frees were converted – the accuracy and pace of Bruree’s attack proved the difference.
U-16 division 3 Hurling:
Mungret St. Paul’s U-16s battled bravely on home turf against a strong Caherline outfit in what turned out to be a highly competitive contest full of pace, skill, and determination from both sides.
The game opened brightly for Mungret St. Paul’s with an early point from play to settle the team. However, Caherline struck back immediately with a well-taken goal that gave them early momentum. The visitors followed up with a handful of points, but Mungret St. Pauls kept themselves in touch through accurate shooting, both from play and frees.
Midway through the half, Mungret St. Pauls enjoyed a purple patch, finding their rhythm from placed balls and even landing a fine score from distance. Their effort and work rate around the middle third began to tell, as they matched Caherline score for score for a spell.
However, the closing stages of the half belonged to Caherline, who capitalised on defensive gaps and struck decisively with a series of goals in quick succession. While Mungret St. Pauls continued to fight and added some well-taken points, the concession of those goals left them facing an uphill battle at the interval.
To their credit, Mungret St. Pauls came out after the break with renewed energy. A flurry of scores from play in the opening minutes showed their intent, and they began to chip away at the margin. Their forwards worked tirelessly, with several players finding the target to keep the scoreboard moving.
Caherline, however, remained dangerous on the break. They responded with points of their own and struck another goal midway through the half, halting the Mungret St. Pauls momentum just as they were beginning to build pressure.
The final quarter saw Mungret St. Pauls continue to play with determination and spirit. Points from play were taken confidently, and the team were finally rewarded for their persistence when they raised a green flag with a well-finished goal, much to the delight of the supporters. That strike was quickly followed by another couple of points, showing the character and never-say-die attitude of this young side.
Despite this strong finish, Caherline’s earlier goal burst had done enough to keep them comfortably in front, and they tagged on further scores before the final whistle to secure the victory. While the result went the way of Caherline, Mungret St. Pauls can take pride in their display. The second-half fightback, marked by sharp shooting and a spirited goal, underlined the potential within this group. This was the last game in the group for this team as they do not progress any further. Well done to all the players, Coaches and parents.
Senior Ladies Football:
Mungret 4-09 Feohanagh Castlemahon 1-14
A huge well done to our Senior Ladies Football Team on their win against Feohanagh Castlemahon in their final group stage match on Thursday 28th August. Another big moment in the team’s history as they lined out as the first adult team to play on the club’s newest pitch.
The wind and intermittent showers made the playing conditions difficult at times for both teams throughout the game but the Mungret ladies got off to a great start, despite the weather conditions. A goal from Grainne Mckenna put Mungret ahead, two minutes into the game, in response to Feohanagh Castlemahon scoring the first point a minute in. Four points from play soon followed from players Tara Kate Geoghegan, Aoife Morrissey Emma O’Rourke and Jayne Casey. Feohanagh Castlemahon kept the points going over the bar but frees from Grainne Mckenna and a fantastic goal from Clare O’Meara ensured the Mungret ladies lead by a point at half time, 2-05 to 1-07.
The second half started with a point from Feohanagh Castlemahon in the fifth minute meaning the teams were tied. Grainne Mckenna along with Emma O’Rourke scored three points between them in quick succession to put Mungret back in the lead but Feohanagh Castlemahon were quick to respond and were not leaving the Mungret ladies much room for error. Substitutions were made, Claire Coughlan took over for Jayne Casey in the forwards and Caoimhe O’Neill took over for Shannon Burke in the backs. Claire Coughlan quickly put her name on the scoreboard with a fantastic goal putting Mungret firmly in the lead. More changes were made where Megan O’Malley, Emily Breen and Fiona Morrissey took over positions for Clare O’Meara, Molly O’Mahoney and Tara Kate Geoghegan. All five substitutes assisted greatly with the final few Mungret scores of the game including a second goal for Grainne Mckenna and the Mungret ladies finished the game ahead by four points. This win means the team finished third in their group and will now play Old Mill in the quarter final on Sunday 7th September in Old Mill at 4:30pm. All support would be greatly appreciated. Well done to all involved with the team.
