Junior B Ladies Football:
Mungret/St. Pauls 6-09 (27) Dromcollogher/Broadford 4-14 (26)
Huge well done to our Junior B team in their first championship game this year. They played Dromcollogher/Broadford away in Tullylease GAA Pitch on Thursday 14th August on a warm sunny evening in a game where just one score made all the difference.
Drom/Broadford scored the opening point of the game, quickly answered by 2 goals from the Mungret ladies. Mungret found it difficult to build up a few more points in the first half however a third goal had them leading by a point going in at half time scoring 3-02 to Drom/Broadford’s 1-07. Goalie Lisa Reilly was kept busy in the second half, while substitutions made at half time, Aisling O’Sullivan, Róisín O’Neill, Emer O’Keeffe and Justine Kennelly came on and made a real impact. The Mungret ladies started strong straight away in the second half with players all over the pitch working tirelessly to get back to defend and quickly turning around to carry the ball back up to the forwards, who were creating some fantastic scoring opportunities. There were several scores at both ends of the pitch, with each team taking turns in the lead. With 10 minutes to go Cáit Murphy scored a wonderful point from play but it unfortunately lead to an injury meaning Eilís O’Neill was to take over in the half forward line. The teams were level with 30 seconds to go, when Mungret were awarded a free. Anna Coughlan stood up and took one for the team, kicking a perfect point over the bar just before the referee blew the whistle. Well done to all players and management and wishing Cáit Murphy a speedy recovery. Their next match is a home game against Cappagh on Sunday 24th August at 6pm. Best of luck to our Senior Ladies Football Team on Saturday 23rd August who play in their second round of the Senior Ladies Football Championship away to Monagea at 7pm. All support welcome.
