Mungret St. Pauls 2-11 Dromcollogher Broadford 1-9
Mungret St. Pauls U-14 Division 3 footballers delivered a composed and determined display on Monday, 11 August 2025, overcoming a strong Dromcollogher Broadford side to secure a deserved five-point win.
From the throw-in, Mungret St. Pauls set the tone, sharp movement, crisp passing, and a willingness to take scores early. They opened with a couple of well-taken points, finding their range quickly. Dromcollogher Broadford responded in kind, matching the intensity, but Mungret St. Pauls defensive unit stood firm, turning over possession at key moments.
The breakthrough came midway through the first half when a fast counterattack ended with a clinical goal from play. Mungret St. Pauls built on that momentum with accurate free-taking and another point from play to edge ahead at the break.
The second half brought its share of pressure as Dromcollogher Broadford pushed hard, finding their own goal to narrow the gap. But Mungret St. Pauls showed great composure, working the ball patiently and taking scores when the chances came. A Mungret St. Pauls second goal, a clever finish after a well-timed run, gave them breathing space entering the final quarter.
With the game in the balance, Mungret St. Pauls midfield battled relentlessly, breaking up attacks and launching counter-moves that produced a string of crucial points. The forwards kept their composure under pressure, and the defence closed out the game with disciplined marking and smart clearances.
This was a complete team performance disciplined at the back, tireless in midfield, and clinical in attack. Every player played their part in a victory that keeps confidence high heading into the next round of fixtures. This was the fifth match with another two to be played as Mungret St. Pauls currently sit in second place on the table.
U16 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-11 Kilmallock 2-8
On a warm August evening, Monday 11 August 2025 Mungret St. Pauls U-16 Division 3 footballers produced a battling performance to come from behind and claim a hard-earned victory over Kilmallock.
A great start just 40 seconds in, Mungret St. Pauls slotted the ball over the bar. A composed free followed, doubled the lead, showing early confidence. Kilmallock replied with a point from play, but Mungret St. Pauls answered quickly with another well-taken point from play. By the 15th minute, a second free put Mungret St. Pauls 0-4 to 0-1 ahead.
Kilmallock, however, began to fight back. Two frees in quick succession reduced the lead to a single point before Mungret St. Pauls struck again with another point from play.
The tide turned sharply with ten minutes left in the first half when Kilmallock netted the game’s first goal from play, taking the lead for the first time. They added a free and followed it with another goal from play less than a minute later, leaving Mungret St. Pauls suddenly chasing the game.
The response was immediate and vital with five minutes in the half left, Mungret St. Pauls broke through for a brilliant goal from play, bringing them right back into contention. Kilmallock added a point from play, but Mungret St. Pauls narrowed the gap with another point from play. A late free for Kilmallock left the half-time score at: Mungret St. Pauls 1-6 Kilmallock 2-6
Determined to turn the game around, Mungret St. Pauls started the second half brightly with a free trimming the gap to two. Kilmallock responded with a point from play, but that was the last time they would enjoy a meaningful lead.
Coming into the last quarter, Mungret St. Pauls struck a decisive blow — a superbly worked move finished with a goal from play, putting them back in front. The momentum was firmly with the home side as they added two quick points from play to stretch the lead.
The game became a tense battle, and while scores were hard to come by for both sides, Mungret St. Pauls ability to move the ball stood to them. A free near the closing stages of the game extended the cushion. Kilmallock tried to rally with a point from play, but Mungret St. Pauls had the final say with a point from play to seal the win.
This was a performance of resilience and composure. After losing the lead in the first half, the lads showed great spirit to come back, and win the second half. Strong defensive work, accurate free-taking, and two well-taken goals proved the difference.
Another two points on the board, and plenty of positives to build on especially for the younger players who came along to help field the team. This was the last game of the group and the only win for the team which sees them on 2 points along with Kilmallock and Athea but with Mungret St. Pauls at the bottom of the table on score difference.

Senior Ladies Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-7 St. Ailbes 0-14
Our senior ladies football team made their debut in the senior championship last week following their promotion after winning the intermediate championship last year. Mungret are in group 1 along with St. Ailbes, Monagea and Feohanagh Castlemahon. Their first group game was a home game on Friday 8th August against the reigning senior champions St. Ailbes. The two teams have met a number of times over the last two years in the Division 1 league but this is their first championship meeting in a number of years.
Mungret got off to a great start with Megan O’Malley scoring the first point of the game in the opening few minutes. It took a few minutes for St. Ailbes to get their first score but they soon found their feet and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Grainne Mckenna scored a great free just before halftime meaning St. Ailbes lead by 6 points, 0-2 to 0-8.
Super sub Yvette Culhane came on at half time after a fantastic first half performance from Emma O’Rourke, soon followed by another super sub Molly O’Mahony who took over from Megan O’Malley in the forwards. Mungret got the first score again in the second half with a free from Grainne Mckenna and the scoreboard kept ticking over for both teams. Mungret narrowed the gap to four points and their hopes were high for a possible penalty goal chance when Clare O’Meara went down in front of the goals but the referee decided it wasn’t to be. Emily Breen was called into action to give Fiona Morrissey a well deserved break and scored a wonderful point from play. Despite Mungret’s best efforts St. Ailbes lead by 7 points when the final whistle blew. A valiant effort from this Mungret team on the day, well done to all involved. Their next match is an away game against Monagea on Saturday 23rd August at 7pm.
Premier Minor Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-12 Monaleen 1-3
Mungret St. Pauls’ Premier Minor footballers produced a dominant performance on Wednesday 13 August 2025 in Mungret, brushing aside Monaleen with a clinical display that leaves them sitting proudly at the top of the Premier Minor table heading into their final group game against Fr. Caseys. Mungret St. Pauls set the tone from the very start, opening the scoring in the second minute with a tidy point from play. While Monaleen briefly responded with their only first-half score, Mungret St. Pauls quickly took control of proceedings. A well-taken point was followed by the first goal of the evening on 8 minutes, a superbly worked move that was finished emphatically to the net.
From there, Mungret St. Pauls took charge all over the field. Points from play kept the scoreboard moving, while a resolute defence forced Monaleen into several wides. By the 22nd minute, Mungret St. Pauls had registered a second goal to push their advantage further, and a flurry of points in the closing stages of the half was capped by a third green flag just before the break. The half-time scoreline of 3-8 to 0-1 told the story: Mungret St. Pauls were clinical, disciplined, and relentless in attack, while giving very little away at the back.
Monaleen started the second half with more intent and struck a goal of their own on 34 minutes, but Mungret St. Pauls never looked in danger of losing control. A pair of frees kept the gap wide, and midway through the half a fourth goal effectively ended the contest. With confidence flowing, the home side added further points from both play and placed balls to seal a commanding 18-point victory. At the final whistle, the scoreboard read a result that underlines the strength and balance of this Mungret St. Pauls team. The forwards showed great sharpness in front of goal, while the defence kept Monaleen to just three second-half scores.
U14 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-8, Ballybrown 0-10
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-14 hurlers put in a strong home performance on Thursday 14 August 2025 to secure a deserved win over near neighbours Ballybrown in Division 1, with two second-half goals proving the decisive difference.
The game began at a lively pace, Ballybrown opening the scoring inside three minutes with a point from a free. Mungret St. Pauls were quick to settle, responding through a well-taken score from play and adding another soon after. A converted free extended the lead, but a few wides from both sides kept the contest tight.
Ballybrown stayed in touch with frees of their own, and by the midway point the game had turned into a battle between the sides’ free-takers. Mungret St. Pauls showed good variety in attack, mixing scores from play with placed balls, and crucially finished the half the stronger. A pair of late points ensured a narrow half-time lead, with the scoreboard reading Mungret St. Pauls 0-6, Ballybrown 0-5.
The second half saw Ballybrown level matters quickly with another free, but Mungret St. Pauls response was emphatic. After slotting over a free of their own, the home side struck for the game’s opening goal in the 8th minute – a fine move finished clinically from play. Barely two minutes later, Mungret St. Pauls raised a second green flag, a decisive blow that opened a commanding gap. Ballybrown battled hard to get back into the contest, keeping the scoreboard ticking with a series of frees and one well-taken point from play. However, Mungret St. Pauls defence stood strong, forcing the visitors into several wides, while at the other end a late free added insurance.
At the final whistle, Mungret St. Pauls were worthy winners on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-10, their greater cutting edge in attack and those crucial second-half goals proving the difference. This was the final game in the group for this team and with this win sees them placed in 3rd, they now wait to see who they play in the Semi Finals.
Junior A Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-8 Castletown Ballyagran 0-8
Mungret St. Pauls’ Junior A footballers battled hard on Friday 15 August 2025 in Rathbane but had to settle for a share of the spoils against Castletown Ballyagran after an intense and physical encounter that finished level.
The game began brightly for Mungret St. Pauls, who opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a well-struck free that counted for two under the new scoring rules. However, Castletown Ballyagran fought back through a pair of frees to level matters by the 12th minute. A tidy score from play restored Mungret St. Pauls lead, only for the opposition to respond again. By the 28th minute, Castletown had edged ahead for the first time, sending the sides into the break with Mungret St. Pauls trailing narrowly, 0-3 to 0-4.
The first half had also seen a major flashpoint when Castletown Ballyagran were reduced to 14 men following a straight red card, but Mungret St. Pauls struggled to make their numerical advantage count early in the second period. Castletown pushed their lead to three with quick scores after the restart, before Mungret St. Pauls settled themselves and began to take control. Points from play and a well-taken free saw Mungret St. Pauls draw level by the 12th minute of the half, and moments later they nosed in front. Mungret St. Pauls had opened a two-point gap, leading 0-8 to 0-6, and looked well placed to push on for victory.
However, Castletown Ballyagran showed great resilience despite their disadvantage, hitting back with two late points, including the equaliser deep into injury time, to snatch a draw.
The game finished all square at 0-8 apiece, a result that will leave Mungret St. Pauls frustrated given the chances created and the extra man advantage, but also encouraged by the fightback and scoring spread in the second half. With more clinical finishing, this Mungret St. Pauls side will feel confident they can turn draws into wins as the championship campaign continues.
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-18 Galtee Gaels 2-9
Mungret St. Pauls senior footballers came away with an important championship win in Hospital on Saturday evening 16 August 2025, seeing off Galtee Gaels in a high-scoring and entertaining contest. Despite conceding two first-half goals, Mungret St. Pauls sharpness in attack and accuracy in front of the posts proved the decisive factor as they finished three-point winners.
The game began brightly for Mungret St. Pauls, who hit the ground running with a free inside the opening minute, followed quickly by a fine score from play. A two-point strike on four minutes had Mungret St. Pauls racing into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead. Galtee Gaels responded with a point, but by the 11th minute they struck for a well-taken goal to draw level.
Momentum briefly swung in the Gaels’ favour as they edged in front, but Mungret St. Pauls reacted impressively. Points from play and a converted free – including another two-pointer – re-established a four-point lead at 0-8 to 1-2. Galtee Gaels stayed in touch with a point of their own, yet Mungret St. Pauls finished the half strongly, rattling over a series of excellent scores. Even a second Galtee Gaels goal before the break couldn’t derail their momentum, and by half-time Mungret St. Pauls held a 0-14 to 2-3 advantage.
On the restart, Mungret St. Pauls immediately extended their lead with another point from play. Galtee Gaels, however, weren’t finished and chipped away with a free and a two-point strike that reduced the gap to just three. A nervy spell followed as the game tightened, but Mungret St. Pauls held their composure, keeping the scoreboard ticking through well-taken frees and points from play. As the game entered the final stages, Galtee Gaels pressed hard, bringing it back to 0-18 to 2-9 with a late free, but Mungret St. Pauls earlier accuracy ensured there was no way back. At the final whistle, Mungret St. Pauls were deserved 0-18 to 2-9 winners – a performance that showcased both their scoring power and their resilience in the face of Galtee Gaels goal threat. This victory keeps Mungret St. Pauls firmly in the hunt, with plenty of positives to take from a contest where 10 different scorers contributed to the tally and the team showed great composure to see out a testing second half.
