Ballybrown made the brighter start, opening with two points from play inside the first eleven minutes. Mungret St. Pauls got off the mark at 12 minutes with a well-taken point from play, but Ballybrown struck a blow less than a minute later with their first goal.
The response from Mungret St. Pauls was immediate — at 16 minutes they raised a green flag of their own to level the contest again. A converted free at 19 minutes nudged Mungret St. Pauls in front for the first time, but Ballybrown finished the half strongly. Two more points and a goal in the 28th minute put the home side in control. Mungret St. Pauls closed the half with a point from play, but Ballybrown tacked on two late scores to lead 2-6 to 1-3 at the break. Ballybrown added to their lead immediately after the restart, but Mungret St. Pauls answered with a point from play. The task got steeper when Ballybrown struck for their third goal at 8 minutes, pushing the gap to eight points.
Refusing to wilt, Mungret St. Pauls kept the scoreboard ticking with a free on 15 minutes, before the game swung back in their favour. Two goals in quick succession — the first at 18 minutes and another just three minutes later brought Mungret St. Pauls right back into contention, cutting the deficit to just a point. Ballybrown steadied themselves with a point from play, but Mungret St. Pauls kept pressing, adding a point from play and a free in the closing minutes. Despite their late surge, the equaliser proved elusive, and Ballybrown held on for a narrow two-point win. It was a match of momentum swings, with Mungret St. Pauls showing determination to fight back from a sizable second-half deficit. The three goals were a testament to their attacking threat, but Ballybrown’s early scoring bursts proved decisive. Mungret St. Pauls can take heart from their resilience and will look to build on this performance in their next outing.
Junior B Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls’ Junior B hurlers welcomed Monaleen to Mungret on Monday 4 August 2025 for a lively City Championship clash. The home side settled into the contest with early scores from placed balls, showing composure in front of the posts.
Monaleen, however, were quick to make their mark with a series of well-taken goals, forcing Mungret St. Pauls to work hard to stay in touch. The opening half saw the visitors enjoy purple patches, finding the net several times despite determined defending from Mungret St. Pauls. The hosts kept the scoreboard moving through accurate free-taking and patient build-up play, but it was clear a big second-half push would be needed. After the break, Mungret St. Pauls came out with renewed energy, dominating much of the play and racking up a string of points from both play and frees. Their work rate around the middle third improved significantly, with strong tackling and clever distribution creating scoring chances.
Despite this spirited second-half surge, Monaleen continued to pose a constant threat in attack, converting their opportunities clinically. Mungret St. Pauls battled right to the final whistle, closing the game with a flurry of well-taken points, but it was the visitors who emerged victorious after an entertaining encounter.

Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-18 – Adare 1-21
Mungret St. Pauls’ senior hurlers produced a gutsy second-half comeback to earn a share of the spoils against Adare in a thrilling championship encounter in Clarina on Wednesday 6 August 2025. Adare were quickest to settle, striking the opening four points without reply in the first eleven minutes. Mungret St. Pauls eventually got on the board shortly after, but the opposition continued to press, moving further ahead before Mungret St. Pauls began to find their rhythm. A goal on the 20-minute mark injected fresh energy into the Mungret St. Pauls attack and was quickly followed by a brace of points, cutting the gap to just two. Both sides exchanged scores before the break, with Mungret St. Pauls finishing strongly to trail by only a single point at half-time. Mungret St. Pauls 1-7 Adare 0-11
Mungret St. Pauls started the second half brightly, rattling off four unanswered points to take the lead for the first time. The game then turned into a tit-for-tat battle, with Adare levelling and edging ahead again through a series of accurate placed balls and points from play.
The sides were evenly matched for much of the half, but a crucial Adare goal midway through the period looked to have swung the game their way. Mungret St. Pauls responded immediately with points to keep within touching distance, and as the clock ticked into injury time, they found their second goal to set up a grandstand finish.
With the final play of the match, Mungret St. Pauls added the levelling score, sealing a dramatic draw in a contest full of intensity, skill, and resilience from both sides. This second draw for Mungret St. Pauls leaves them with 2 points and currently sitting in third place on the table but there are still three more games to play.
Premier Minor Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-11 Oola 1-7
Mungret St. Pauls’ Premier Minor footballers produced a composed and determined display in Oola on Wednesday 6 August 2025, coming from a narrow half-time deficit to claim a well-earned victory. The visitors made a dream start, hitting the net inside the opening 15 seconds with a sharp finish from play. A well-struck point followed after five minutes, but Oola responded with a goal of their own at the eight-minute mark to level the contest.
The home side began to find their range, adding points from both play and a free, but Mungret St. Pauls kept pace through a mixture of placed balls and well-taken scores from open play. The closing stages of the half saw Mungret St. Pauls edge closer with two quick points in succession, leaving just a single point between the sides at the interval. Mungret St. Pauls 1-5 Oola 1-6. Oola struck first after the restart, but Mungret St. Pauls response was both patient and clinical. Two frees brought the sides level before the red and white found an extra gear in the final ten minutes.
Strong work in midfield and quick ball into the forward line yielded a string of scores from play, with Mungret St. Pauls outscoring their hosts six points to one in the second period. The defence also stood firm, restricting Oola to just a single point after the 5th minute of the half. By the final whistle, Mungret St. Pauls had overturned the early deficit to secure a four-point win, capping off a disciplined performance that combined a fast start, resilient defending, and efficient finishing. This win sees Mungret St. Pauls hold their position in second place on the table with two more games to go in the group.
U14 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-12 St. Kierans 9-6
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-14 Division 3 footballers made the trip to St. Kierans on Thursday evening, 7 August 2025 facing a home side who proved clinical in front of goal.
Mungret St. Pauls played with plenty of energy and creativity, moving the ball well and creating numerous scoring chances. The forwards combined for some fine points from play, and both of Mungret St. Pauls goals were well-worked moves that split open the St. Kierans defence. However, the hosts were ruthless in attack, hitting the net on several occasions to keep a firm grip on the game. Despite Mungret St. Pauls strong scoring return – racking up twelve points alongside the two goals the concession of multiple green flags ultimately left too much ground to make up. To their credit, the Mungret St. Pauls players kept battling right to the final whistle, showing good teamwork and determination throughout. The experience will serve them well as they continue their development in the competition. This team are currently sitting in third place on the table having played four games with three games left to play.
Intermediate Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-9 – Cappamore 3-19
Mungret St. Pauls intermediate hurlers faced a tough evening in Caherelly on Saturday 9 August 2025 as a sharp-shooting Cappamore side took the spoils in this Championship encounter. Mungret St. Pauls made a lively start, striking the opening two points inside as many minutes one from play and one from a placed ball. Cappamore responded quickly, finding their range with a series of well-taken scores to edge in front.
Mungret St. Pauls kept the scoreboard ticking with frees and 65s, but Cappamore’s forwards were proving clinical, hitting points from play and raising the first green flag of the game just before the 13-minute mark. The goal spurred them on, and despite Mungret St. Pauls efforts to break up their rhythm, Cappamore continued to find space in attack, adding a second goal before half-time to establish a healthy advantage. Mungret St. Pauls 0-6 Cappamore 2-11
Cappamore extended their lead early in the second period and struck for their third goal on nine minutes, giving Mungret St. Pauls a mountain to climb. The red and white kept battling, converting frees and another 65, before finally breaking through for their own goal midway through the half a well-finished move that lifted the team. Despite Mungret St. Pauls best efforts, Cappamore continued to pick off points from both play and placed balls, maintaining control of the game. Mungret St. Pauls added a few late scores, but the gap proved too great to bridge. In the end, it was Cappamore’s clinical finishing and ability to convert their goal chances that proved the difference, though Mungret St. Pauls determination and refusal to give up were evident throughout.
