U-11 Football:
Another brilliant day out for the Mungret St. Paul’s U-11 footballers, as 22 of our young players took to the field at Cusack Park in Ennis for the Munster GDA summer series. It was a real honour to play in such a top-class venue, with the pitch in superb condition despite the wet weather. The team gave a great account of themselves, facing strong opposition from Doora Barefield, Shannon Gaels, and Clooney Quin. The standard of football was excellent, and the players represented the club with pride and passion. Next up is an exciting trip to Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork in two weeks’ time – we can’t wait!

U-16 Football:
Monday 14 July 2025 was a busy evening for our U-16 footballers, with both of our teams in action. The Division 1 side hosted Ahane at home, while the Division 3 team travelled to take on Monagea. Both matches proved to be challenging encounters against strong opposition, in very wet and windy conditions which did not help the players. While the results didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the evening. All 33 players saw game time and gained valuable experience playing under the new rules — a great step in their development.

Premier Minor Hurling:
Mungret St. Paul’s 2-15, Glenroe 2-14
Thrilling Last-Minute Win for Mungret St. Pauls, on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, in Glenroe, Mungret St. Pauls had a nail-biting win over the hosts.
Glenroe came out of the blocks quickly, establishing an early lead of 0-4 to 0-1. Both teams traded goals in quick succession, igniting the contest and raising the intensity on the field. Mungret St. Pauls showed great composure to rally back and level the game by the end of the first quarter.
As the first half progressed, the teams exchanged points in a tightly contested battle. A well-taken second goal by Mungret St. Pauls in the middle of that scoring burst proved crucial, giving them a slender 2-point lead at the break: Mungret St. Pauls 2-7, Glenroe 1-8.
The second half began with Mungret St. Pauls adding a point to extend their advantage, but Glenroe responded strongly, hitting the net for a second time and nudging ahead by two. Unfazed, Mungret St. Pauls battled back to level the game entering the final quarter.
What followed was a tense and thrilling finale, with the sides drawing level three more times in the closing stages. With the final whistle looming, Mungret St. Pauls were awarded a long-range free. The pressure was immense as the crowd fell silent and the Mungret St. Pauls goalkeeper stepped up to take the free. With nerves of steel, he struck the ball cleanly and watched it sail over the crossbar — the winning score.
Moments later, the referee blew the final whistle, sealing a hard-fought and well-deserved victory for Mungret St. Pauls in the second championship match. The next match will be the last in the group, against Kilmallock and will determine who will take second place, with Mungret St. Pauls currently sitting in third.

U-14 Hurling:
It was a busy Thursday evening for our U-14 hurlers, with both Division 1 and Division 3 teams in action on July 17 2025. Both squads showed plenty of heart, determination, and skill on the field.
U-14 Division 1: Mungret St. Pauls 2-6, Na Piarsaigh 1-10
In a tightly contested Division 1 clash at home, Mungret St. Pauls and Na Piarsaigh played out a thrilling game that went right down to the wire.
Mungret St. Pauls started well and battled hard throughout the opening half, going into the break with a narrow lead: 1-3 to 0-5. The work rate across the pitch was immense, with some excellent defending and well-taken scores keeping the home side in front.
The second half continued in the same fiercely competitive spirit, with momentum swinging between both sides. A second goal from Mungret St. Pauls kept the game finely balanced, but Na Piarsaigh responded with a goal and a couple of crucial points late on to edge the win by the narrowest of margins.
While the result didn’t fall for Mungret St. Pauls, the performance was full of positives, and the players can be proud of their efforts against a strong opponent.
U-14 Division 3: Mungret St. Pauls 2-4, St. Kierans 3-11
Our Division 3 side faced a tough away assignment against St. Kierans and, despite a determined effort, were unable to overcome a strong home team.
Mungret St. Pauls found themselves on the back foot early on but worked hard to stay in the game, registering two well-taken goals and some excellent points. However, St. Kierans were clinical in attack and took their chances well, building a lead that proved too much to claw back.
While the final scoreline doesn’t reflect the work put in by the team, there were plenty of encouraging signs in terms of skill development and teamwork.
Well done to all our U-14 players and coaches for their continued commitment and effort. These games are great learning opportunities, and the experience will stand to them as the season progresses.

Premier Junior A Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-17, Athea 1-12
Stunning second-half comeback sees Mungret/St. Pauls edge thriller in premier junior A opener on Saturday, 19 July 2025.
Mungret St. Pauls Premier Junior A footballers produced a remarkable second-half comeback to claim a dramatic victory over Athea in their Championship opener in Cappagh.
Facing into a strong breeze in the first half, Mungret St. Pauls struggled to gain a foothold as Athea made full use of the wind advantage, surging into a commanding lead. An early goal and a flurry of points saw Athea move well ahead, before Mungret St. Pauls finally opened their account with a well-taken two-point effort.
That would prove to be Mungret St. Pauls only score of the half, as Athea continued to pile on the pressure, adding another six points — including a two-pointer — to take what seemed a comfortable half-time lead: Athea 1-11, Mungret St. Paul’s 0-2.
But the second half told a completely different story, now with the breeze at their backs, Mungret St. Pauls came out with renewed energy and belief. The defence tightened up superbly, limiting Athea to just a single point after the restart — their last score of the game.
At the other end, Mungret St. Pauls began chipping away at the deficit with a flurry of scores. Wave after wave of attack saw 12 unanswered points added to the tally, including three crucial two-pointers, which swung the momentum firmly in Mungrets St. Pauls favour.
By the final whistle, the turnaround was complete. Mungret St. Pauls had outscored Athea 0-15 to 0-1 in the second half to seal an incredible two-point win and get their Championship campaign off to a flying start.
A performance full of grit, character, and determination — well done to all the players and mentors!

Junior A Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-13 Cappamore 1-13
Late Push Falls Short as Mungret St. Pauls Narrowly Defeated in Junior A Clash on Sunday, 20 July 2025 in Ballybricken Bohermore.
Mungret St. Pauls, third team, the Junior A Footballers put in a spirited display but came up just short in a hard-fought battle against Cappamore.
The game opened at a lively pace, with both sides trading early scores. Ten minutes in, it was all square at three points apiece, with Mungret St. Pauls grabbing the only two-pointer of the contest. Cappamore then enjoyed a strong spell, hitting four unanswered points to pull ahead. Mungret St. Pauls responded well with two more points before the break, narrowing the gap to two at half-time: Mungret St. Paul’s 0-5, Cappamore 0-7.
The second half began with renewed intensity, and Mungret St. Pauls struck early to level the game. However, Cappamore landed a decisive blow soon after, the only goal of the match, to reclaim the lead. They continued to tack on points steadily, while Mungret St. Pauls, despite some fine passages of play, found it difficult to match their opponents’ scoring rate. With three points separating the teams in the final minute of injury time, Mungret St. Pauls were awarded a 45. Knowing a goal was needed, the ball was launched in and a determined effort was made to force it over the line. But Cappamore’s defence stood firm, clearing the danger and sealing the win.
Though the result didn’t go Mungret St. Pauls’ way, it was a battling performance filled with heart, and the players showed great resilience and fight throughout.
Plenty of positives to take forward as the campaign continues — well done to the players and management on a strong showing.
