Ladies Football:
Division 1 League Semi-Final
Mungret 0-6 Monagea 1-9
Hard luck to our Division 1 team in the league semi-final against Monagea last Thursday, 3rd July. Monagea lead at half time despite the ferocious efforts by the Mungret ladies, particularly when defending in the first half. The second half saw some fantastic ball work and skill shown by the forwards with the Mungret ladies narrowing Monagea’s lead and creating several goal chances. Unfortunately, the final whistle blew with Monagea maintaining their lead and proressing to the final. Thanks to Monagea for a great game and good luck in the final.
Our Division 1 team had a brilliant league campaign topping their group after winning 5 games in the group stages. This team will now look forward to preparing and focusing on the Senior Ladies Football Championship in August. Well done to all involved.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to our Division 4 team in their league semi-final with a win over Gerald Griffins on Wednesday 2nd July. Mungret lead at half time and managed to hold their lead despite Gerald Griffin’s best efforts. This team will now play Knockainey in the final next week with details to be confirmed. Well done to all involved.
Well done to our U16 Red team who had their first championship match at home to Galtee Gaels on Friday 4th July. The Mungret girls lead by two points at half time after battling against a strong breeze in the first half. There were two quick goals at the start of the second half for Mungret helping them maintain their lead until the final whistle. A super display of teamwork, skill and patience in very trying conditions. Well done to all the girls and their management team.

Premier Minor Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-10, Monaleen 2-15
In a game that started with promise and intensity, Mungret St. Pauls’ Premier Minor Footballers ultimately came up short against a determined Monaleen side on a very warm Wednesday evening, 9 July 2025, in Monaleens Peafield pitch, as four unanswered points in the final quarter proved decisive.
Monaleen were first off the mark, opening the scoring with two quick points before Mungret St. Pauls responded in style with a well-worked early goal to take the lead. The lively exchanges continued as Monaleen added two more points, only for Mungret St. Pauls to strike again with a second goal, followed swiftly by a point to stretch the advantage.
A point apiece followed in an evenly contested battle, but the tone of the game shifted late in the first quarter when Mungret St. Pauls were reduced to 14 men after a straight red card – a blow that would have long-term consequences on a warm summer evening.
Despite the setback, Mungret St. Pauls dug deep and kept their composure. Both sides exchanged further scores, with Monaleen notching their first goal ten minutes from the break. A superbly taken 45’ from Mungret St. Pauls was their final score of the half, but Monaleen edged in front before the whistle with their second goal, leaving it 2-8 to 2-7 at halftime.
The second half saw both teams locked in a tight battle, point for point, through the third quarter. Mungret St. Pauls showed great resolve and work rate across the field, keeping within touching distance thanks to some composed attacking play and strong defensive work, despite the numerical disadvantage.
However, it was Monaleen who found the extra gear in the final stages, reeling off four unanswered points as Mungret St. Pauls energy began to fade. Despite the best efforts of Mungret St. Pauls, the clock ran out with Monaleen five points clear.
While the result didn’t go their way, the performance showed plenty of heart and flashes of quality. Playing over three quarters of the match with 14 men, the team can take pride in the fight shown and the composure maintained under pressure. With key learnings to take forward, the focus now turns to the next challenge in what’s shaping up to be a fiercely competitive championship. Well done to all players and management for their efforts on the night.
U14 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 8-6 South Liberties 8-7
There was no shortage of drama, passion, and goals in an unforgettable U14 Division 3 Football Championship match, but Mungret St. Pauls were left heartbroken after falling just a single point short in a pulsating clash against South Liberties on Thursday 10 July 2025.
In a match that had everything—goals aplenty, huge momentum swings, and end-to-end action—our young Mungret St. Pauls heroes showed immense skill, character, and resilience, but ultimately came up just short.
From the throw-in, it was clear this was going to be a titanic battle. Mungret St. Pauls started brightly, with early goals giving Mungret St. Pauls a crucial foothold in the game. The forward line worked tirelessly, linking up well and making the most of every opportunity. The combination play up front and some sharp finishing saw Mungret St. Pauls rack up an impressive tally of 8-6 over the hour.
But credit must go to South Liberties, who refused to let the game slip away at any stage. Their own scoring threat was relentless, and despite some brilliant defending and brave goalkeeping from the Mungret St. Pauls back line, they found the net on eight occasions themselves and added that vital extra point which would ultimately make the difference.
As the clock ticked down, Mungret St. Pauls surged forward in search of the winning score. The team never gave up, showing true spirit and determination. There was barely time to breathe as both sides exchanged chances in the final minutes. When the final whistle sounded, the scoreboard told the cruel story—just one point the difference.
Despite the result, this young group can hold their heads high. They left everything on the pitch and provided a performance full of courage, teamwork and talent.
