Many scoring opportunities were created for both teams and it remained a tight game throughout, however, it was Mungret’s day to take the win as they held onto a 5 point lead. U-14 Division 3 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-8 Killacolla Gaels 0-8
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-14 Division 3 hurlers produced a spirited and determined performance in Bruree on Friday evening, 23 May 2025 as they played out a thrilling 0-8 to 0-8 draw with Killacolla Gaels in Round 1 of the championship. From the throw-in, it was clear both sides were up for the battle, with intensity high and scores hard-earned. Mungret St. Pauls settled quickest, opening the scoring with a well-taken point from play in the opening minutes. Killacolla Gaels responded in kind, but Mungret St. Pauls backline held firm under sustained pressure, with some superb tackling and clearances keeping the scoreboard tight. The first half saw excellent work rate from the midfield pairing, who covered acres of ground and linked defence and attack effectively. The Mungret St. Pauls forwards worked tirelessly to create space and opportunities, notching up a series of points. The second half was equally tight, with both sides exchanging scores and defences dominating. As the game entered the final stages, Mungret St. Pauls trailed by a point but showed great composure and character to draw level with minutes to go. Despite a few late chances from both teams, neither side could find the winning score. In the end, a share of the spoils was probably a fair result in a game that showcased the skill, commitment, and resilience of our young players. A huge well done to the entire panel and management for their efforts – every player left everything on the pitch. They now look forward to building on this performance in the next round.
U-13 Division 1 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-3 Monaleen 2-5
Heartbreak for Mungret St. Pauls After Brave Final Push Falls Just Short.
Mungret St. Pauls U-13 hurlers showed tremendous spirit and skill on Sunday, 25 May 2025 in the division 1 league final in Clarina but were narrowly edged out by Monaleen on a final scoreline of 2-5 to 2-3, with very changeable weather throughout the match.
In what was a fiercely contested encounter, the young Mungret St. Pauls side battled from start to finish and came within a whisker of forcing a dramatic turnaround in the closing stages. After a cagey first quarter, Monaleen opened the scoring with two points, but Mungret St. Pauls hit back strongly in the second quarter with a well-taken goal that gave them the lead and a boost of confidence. That goal proved the only major score of the first half, and Mungret St. Pauls went into the break with a one-point defecate, 1-0 to 0-4.
Monaleen, however, seized the initiative in the third quarter, finding momentum and capitalising with a burst of scoring that saw them hit 2-1 without reply. Their sharpness during this period opened up a six-point lead and left Mungret St. Pauls facing an uphill battle in the final quarter. But to their credit, the Mungret St. Pauls boys never gave up. They threw everything into the final ten minutes, dominating possession and launching wave after wave of attack. A second goal reignited hopes, and three well-earned points brought them within two of their opponents as the clock ticked down. Despite their best efforts, the equalising score just wouldn’t come, and Monaleen held on under intense pressure in the dying minutes. It was a gallant display from Mungret St. Pauls, whose late surge showcased the team’s resilience, heart, and never-say-die attitude.
Though the result didn’t go their way, the players and coaches can be immensely proud of the performance and the journey to the final. The future is certainly bright for this talented group of hurlers. Well done to all involved on a fantastic campaign and an excellent display in the final, we look forward to seeing them in the U-14 Championship.
