Division 4 League Round 3:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-20 Granagh Ballingarry 4-02
Our Junior Ladies football team played against Granagh Ballingarry on Friday 2nd May in Crescent Comp. Mungret got off to a great start scoring 3-13 in the first half to Granagh Ballingarry’s 2-0. Granagh Ballingarry scored some excellent goals and points in the second half to keep themselves in the game but Mungret ultimately were the team to come away with the win. Well done to all involved. Their next game is away to Drom Broadford.

Division 1 League Round 3:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-8 St. Ailbes 5-10
A highly anticipated match between these two teams took place on Monday 5th May in Mungret. They last met in the league final last year where St. Ailbes were crowned the winners but both teams went on to win county titles at intermediate and senior level so it was always going to be an exciting game. Mungret had 2 wins from 2 heading into this match and were hoping to make it 3 from 3. Unfortunately, a very strong St. Ailbes side lead for most of the game with 2 goals and 2 points separating the teams at half time. They held onto their lead despite two late goals from Niamh O’ Keeffe and Clare O’Meara that put the Mungret ladies right back into the game but time unfortunately ran out. Well done to all involved, it was a great display of football from both sides. This team will play Galtee Gaels in the fourth round of the league next week.

Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-7 Galtee Gaels 2-9
Mungret St. Pauls’ Senior Footballers saw their League campaign come to an end on Monday evening, 5 May 2025 in Hospital, as they fell to a strong Galtee Gaels side in a tough semi-final encounter. The game opened with early promise for Mungret St. Pauls, who got the scoreboard ticking with a well-taken two-pointer, showing intent from the outset. Galtee Gaels, however, responded swiftly and clinically with a goal, shifting the momentum in their favour. Despite some solid defensive work and periods of controlled possession, Mungret St. Pauls found it difficult to break down a disciplined Galtee Gaels setup. By half-time, Galtee Gaels had edged ahead, leading 1-4 to 0-5 in a closely fought first half. The second half proved more challenging for Mungret St. Pauls. A turning point came early when Galtee Gaels were awarded a penalty. While the initial strike was saved brilliantly, the rebound fell kindly for Galtee Gaels, who slotted it home for their second goal of the game. Mungret St. Pauls struggled to regain composure and momentum, with their first point of the second half not arriving until the twentieth minute — by then, they were trailing by eight. Galtee Gaels added two more points to extend their lead before Mungret St. Pauls finished the game with a late consolation point. The final whistle blew with the score at 2-9 to 0-7, a disappointing result for Mungret St. Pauls after a campaign that showed plenty of promise. Despite the loss, the team can reflect on a season of development and will no doubt take valuable lessons into the championship ahead.

Junior B Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-9 Oola 3-10
Mungret St. Pauls’ Junior B Footballers bowed out of the League after a spirited but ultimately disappointing defeat to Oola in the semi-final played in Cappamore on Tuesday evening, 6 May 2025.
It was a contest that saw momentum shift several times, with Mungret St. Pauls starting strongly and dominating the early exchanges. Quick points saw them surge into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead within the opening minutes, setting the tone with aggressive tackling and fluid play through the middle third.
However, Oola gradually found their rhythm and struck back, registering a crucial goal to swing the tide. At the break, Mungret St. Pauls trailed narrowly by a single point, 1-4 to 1-5, in what had been a well-contested first half.
The second half saw Mungret St. Paus regaining composure and fighting hard to keep pace. They matched Oola point for point through the third quarter, with strong performances from the half-back line and some well-taken scores up front. Midway through the second half, it remained anyone’s game.
But it was in the final ten minutes where the match slipped from Mungret St. Pauls grasp. Oola found another gear and capitalised on a couple of defensive lapses to net two late goals, giving them a decisive edge. Despite Mungret St. Pauls best efforts to respond, the late surge proved too much to overcome.
The final scoreline of 3-10 to 1-9 doesn’t fully reflect the competitive nature of the game for much of the hour, but Mungret St. Pauls can take pride in a committed performance and a strong campaign overall. They now look to build on the positives from this run and come back stronger for the Championship.

U-13 Division 1 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-13 Adare 2-3
Mungret St. Pauls Under-13 footballers delivered a superb second-half performance on home soil on Thursday evening, 8 May 2025, overcoming a determined Adare side to claim an emphatic win in their latest Division 1 outing.
The match began at a lively pace, with both sides trading early scores in an evenly contested opening half. Mungret St. Pauls showed sharpness in attack, registering 1-4 before the break, but Adare kept them honest with a goal and three points of their own to leave the game finely balanced at half-time — just a single point separating the teams.
Whatever was said in the Mungret St. Pauls dug out at the interval clearly had the desired effect. From the restart, the home side took complete control, dominating possession and pinning Adare back with wave after wave of attacks. A quick-fire goal early in the second half gave Mungret St. Pauls breathing room, and they never looked back.
The forwards clicked into top gear, picking off well-taken points from play and frees, while the midfield pairing won the lion’s share of ball and linked effectively with a dynamic half-forward line. A third goal midway through the half capped a dominant spell that put the game beyond reach. The Mungret St. Pauls defence also deserves huge credit, restricting Adare to a single second-half goal and working tirelessly to snuff out any signs of a comeback. Smart tackling and well-timed interceptions ensured Adare were limited to just 2-3 across the hour.
It was a strong team display from Mungret St. Pauls, blending work rate with skill and teamwork. With this result, they continue to build momentum in the Division 1 campaign and will take great confidence from such a comprehensive win against strong opposition.

U-13 Division 3 Football:
Mungret/St. Pauls 1-4, Na Piarsaigh 7-8
Mungret/St. Pauls’ U-13 Division 3 side faced a stern challenge on Thursday evening, 8 May 2025 in Crescent Comprehensive, coming up against a well-drilled and physically strong Na Piarsaigh outfit who proved too powerful over the course of the game.
Despite the final scoreline, Mungret St. Pauls young side showed tremendous character and battled bravely throughout the contest, particularly in the first half where they made Na Piarsaigh work hard for their scores. There were some excellent passages of play from the Mungret St. Pauls boys, with the team’s only goal coming from a well-worked move that was finished confidently.
The first half saw Mungret St. Pauls play with determination, registering points from play and showing signs of their attacking potential. However, Na Piarsaigh’s sharp finishing and quick transitions began to tell, as they converted their goal chances clinically, building a lead that was hard to chase.
In the second half, Na Piarsaigh continued to apply pressure, but Mungret St. Pauls never dropped their heads. The defence fought valiantly, making several blocks and turnovers, while the midfield continued to battle for possession. The forwards linked well when opportunities came, and the team showed glimpses of their potential that will no doubt develop as the season progresses.
While the scoreline didn’t go Mungret St. Pauls way, there is plenty to take from this game — not least the resilience and effort shown by each player in red and white. The experience will stand to them as they continue to grow and improve in what is a competitive Division 3 league.

Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-19 Monaleen 1-20
Mungret St. Pauls’ Senior hurlers fell agonisingly short in a thrilling Senior Hurling League Semi-Final against Monaleen in Caherdavin on Thursday evening, 8 May 2025, losing out by just a single point in a contest that went right to the wire.
Trailing by three at the break, Mungret St. Pauls showed immense grit and character in the second half, clawing their way back into the game and drawing level on two separate occasions in the closing stages. However, despite their late surge and spirited fightback, they were never able to edge in front, with Monaleen just managing to hold their nerve and slot over the decisive score in injury time.
The first half was a lively, high-quality affair. Mungret St. Pauls matched Monaleen score for score in the opening exchanges, with both sides raising white flags from play and placed balls. Mungret St. Pauls goal midway through the half gave them a brief lift, but Monaleen replied quickly with a goal of their own and added a flurry of late points to take a 1-12 to 1-9 lead into the interval.
In the second half, Mungret St. Pauls upped the intensity. The backs tightened up and forced turnovers, while the midfielders began to win more primary possession. Points came from a variety of scorers, with the forwards showing accuracy and composure under pressure.
With the game hanging in the balance entering the final minutes, Mungret St. Pauls drew level at 1-18 apiece, and again at 1-19 each, sending the large crowd into full voice. However, Monaleen edged ahead once more, and despite one last push from Mungret St. Pauls, time ran out before they could find an equaliser—or the winning score their performance so nearly deserved. It was a brave and battling effort from Mungret St. Pauls, who will take plenty of encouragement from their performance, particularly their ability to rally under pressure and push Monaleen to the limit. While the result means an exit from this year’s league, the display was full of heart, discipline, and quality—a strong foundation to build on heading into the championship.

Primary Schools:
We were recently presented with a wonderful opportunity to have both the Sarsfield Cup and the Mackey Cup on loan at the same time—a proud moment for our club and community.
The Mackey Cup, awarded for hurling, was won by the Limerick City Primary Schools team, which featured strong representation from Mungret St Pauls players hailing from three different primary schools in our area: Captain; Conor Slavin, Harry Newman, Tom Traynor, William Conway, Éanna Hehir, and Bob Nix. The Sarsfield Cup, contested in football, was also claimed by the Limerick City Primary Schools team, once again with excellent representation from Mungret St. Paul’s and the 3 Primary Schools: Captain; Gearóid Ahearne, Harry Newman, Bob Nix, Páidí Mullins, and Tom Traynor. It was a fantastic honour for Mungret St. Paul’s to have both team captains come from our club—a true testament to the talent and dedication of our young players.
