Well done to the Limerick Minor Footballers who played a great match against Waterford in Mick Neville Park and won 2-14 to 1-10 on 28 April 2025. This win was unfortunately not strong enough as they were edged out on scoring difference from qualifying for the knockout phase of the Munster championship. However, Limerick’s season isn’t done yet as they still have the All-Ireland ‘C’ championship to play. Mungret St. Pauls are delighted to have Amhlaoibh Bohane, Jack Dervan and Jamie Curtin on the panel. On Wednesday 30 April 2025 the U-20 Limerick Hurlers played what was to be their last game in the season as they took on a spirited Clare team. Limerick played well they gave it everything they had, ultimately falling just short in the end. Well done to players Mark O’Brien, Sean Duff and team captain Fintan Fitzgerald for representing Mungret St. Pauls.
The Hurling Academies were out early on Saturday 3 May 2025. The U-14 hurlers were in Dublin in the UCD Sports Centre where they played hosts Dublin. Well done to Mungret St. Paus players Jack Houlihan and Thomas Slavin. The U-15 hurlers saw one team against Meath and the other team against Dublin with both Limerick teams being the victors in Cappamore. Well done to Mungret St. Pauls player Sean Donnelly and to Mungret St. Pauls Diarmuid Mullins and Donal Duff who are involved in management. The U-16 hurlers played two Tipperary teams in Cappamore with both taking a loss on the day. Well done to Ruairi Dwane who lined out for Mungret St. Pauls.

Junior B Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-15 Caherline 1-12
Mungret St. Pauls Junior B hurlers showed immense character and resilience as they battled back from a six-point halftime deficit to earn a dramatic 0-15 to 1-12 draw against Caherline in a thrilling encounter played on Monday evening, 28 April 2025 in Mungret. The first half proved challenging for Mungret St. Pauls, with Caherline using some sharp shooting to build up a commanding lead. Despite some fine scores from play and placed balls, Mungret St. Pauls trailed at the break by 1-11 to 0-8, needing a strong response to get back into the contest. That response came immediately after the restart, as Mungret St. Pauls dominated possession and began to chip away at the Caherline lead. Driven by relentless work-rate across the pitch and clever use of the ball, the points steadily flowed. The backs tightened up significantly, limiting Caherline to a single point in the entire second half, while the forwards, showing great composure under pressure, kept the scoreboard ticking over. The final minutes were tense, with both sides pushing for the win, but Mungret St. Pauls late surge, capped off by some crucial scores, saw them deservedly pull level just before the final whistle. While a win narrowly eluded them, Mungret St. Pauls can take great pride in a spirited second-half performance that earned a valuable league point and underlined the squad’s fighting spirit and belief.
Castlebar Super 9s Football:
Mungret St. Pauls brought a strong showing to the Castlebar Super 9s Gaelic Football tournament held over the weekend of April 26–27, 2025. The tournament, renowned for its fast-paced, high-energy 9-a-side format and vibrant festival atmosphere, drew teams from across the country for a thrilling showcase of skill, stamina, and sportsmanship.
Mungret St. Pauls fielded a competitive squad, with 11 players from their senior team making the journey to Castlebar. The team kicked off their campaign with three group stage matches on Saturday, April 26th. They opened strong, claiming well-earned victories over Ballaghaderreen and Cloonacool, showing sharp teamwork and clinical finishing. Despite a hard-fought battle, they fell short against a well-drilled Louisburgh side in their group game.
Their Saturday performance secured them a place in the Cup competition on Sunday. However, Sunday brought its own challenges. Facing Thomas Davis in the knockout stages, Mungret played with only nine available players, a factor that heavily influenced the outcome. Despite a valiant effort, they were edged out by a fresher Thomas Davis side. While the result on the pitch may not have gone their way in the end, the weekend was a resounding success in terms of team spirit, experience, and enjoyment. The Castlebar Super 9s once again lived up to its reputation for great football and even greater atmosphere—a celebration of the game at its most exciting. Well done to our players who were so busy preparing for their matches they forgot to take photos. Thank you to Castlebar for hosting.
U-13 Division 1 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-13 Division 1 hurlers travelled to Ballingarry on Thursday evening, 1 May 2025 and delivered a strong, composed performance in what is believed to have finished 2-8 to 1-1 in favour Mungret St. Pauls. From the outset, Mungret St. Pauls settled quickly into the game, showing great sharpness in attack and solid organisation in defence. The opening exchanges were closely contested, but once Mungret St. Pauls found their rhythm, they began to assert themselves with clever use of possession and excellent teamwork. Two well-taken goals were the highlight of a productive attacking display, with the forwards showing a clinical edge. Around the middle third, Mungret St. Pauls dominated the puck-outs and second balls, which allowed them to maintain sustained pressure and keep the scoreboard ticking over with some fine points from play. Defensively, Mungret St. Pauls were disciplined and alert, conceding only a single goal and point over the course of the game. The backs worked tirelessly to close down space and clear their lines, with great support from midfield tracking back. It was an all-round team performance that showcased the group’s skill development, work ethic, and hunger. While the final score is awaiting official confirmation, the display itself spoke volumes about the progress being made in this talented group. Well done to players and mentors on a great evening’s hurling in the Ballingarry sunshine.
U-13 Division 3 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-4 Monagea 4-10
Mungret St. Pauls’ second U-13 team, made up predominantly of 11 and 12-year-olds, travelled to Monagea on Thursday evening, 1 May 2025 for a challenging Division 3 Hurling fixture. While the scoreboard read 4-10 to 0-4 in favour of the hosts at full-time, there was much to admire in the attitude, work ethic, and learning spirit shown by the young Mungret St. Pauls players throughout. Facing an older and physically stronger Monagea outfit, Mungret St. Pauls battled bravely from start to finish. The early exchanges saw the home side take control with some well-taken goals, but Mungret St. Pauls defence worked tirelessly under pressure, making blocks, hooks, and clearances to keep their side in the contest. In attack, Mungret St. Pauls showed some excellent passages of play, moving the ball smartly and taking on scores when chances came. Four points were well-earned, and while the goals didn’t come on this occasion, the team’s commitment to playing positive hurling never waned. This match was a valuable learning experience for the group, who continue to improve with every outing. The younger players in particular showed great heart and promise, and the exposure to a high-paced game like this will stand to them in the weeks ahead. Well done to all involved for representing the club with pride and determination.
Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-19, Patrickswell 2-16
Mungret St. Pauls came away from Patrickswell with a share of the spoils after a fiercely contested Senior Hurling League clash played in scorching sunshine on Friday 2 May 2025. Mungret St. Pauls were pegged back in the final minutes as Patrickswell landed two late points to snatch a draw. The first half saw Mungret St. Pauls make the most of the dry, fast conditions. Their work rate around the middle third and sharp shooting from distance gave them the edge. With points coming from a variety of scorers and some excellent build-up play, Mungret St. Pauls took a deserved 0-12 to 0-8 lead into the break. In the second half, the momentum shifted slightly as Patrickswell came out with greater urgency. However, Mungret St. Pauls remained composed and found a crucial breakthrough when they raised a green flag midway through the half, extending their lead and silencing the home crowd. As the heat intensified, so too did the contest. Mungret St. Pauls continued to keep the scoreboard ticking with well-taken points and solid defending, but Patrickswell remained within touching distance. A late goal from the hosts narrowed the gap, and two quickfire points in the dying minutes brought them level, denying Mungret St. Pauls a hard-earned win. While the draw will sting slightly given Mungret St. Pauls advantage, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance—particularly the energy, discipline, and scoring spread. This was the final match in the league with Mungret St. Pauls finishing in third place in the group after five matches.
U-17 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-10, Monaleen 5-8
In a thrilling U-17 Football League Play-Off clash at Monaleen’s Peafield Road pitch, Mungret St. Pauls produced a spirited performance under the Friday evening sun, recovering from a blistering Monaleen start to fall just short in a high-scoring encounter on Friday 2 May 2025. The hosts made a flying start, hitting Mungret St. Pauls with a devastating opening salvo—four goals and two points in the first 15 minutes that left Mungret St. Pauls on the back foot. But to their credit, the Mungret St. Pauls players responded superbly, showing resilience and character. A brilliant five-minute spell saw Mungret hit back with 3-2 of their own, turning the tide and reigniting the contest. Just before the break, Monaleen struck again for their fifth goal, giving them a 5-3 to 3-3 advantage at half time. Despite the deficit, Mungret St. Pauls emerged for the second half with renewed determination, dominating early possession and reeling off a string of points to close the gap. As the heat bore down, the game opened up, and Mungret St. Pauls fitness and teamwork began to shine through. Their defence tightened, and the forwards found space, with a crucial fourth goal bringing the sides level with time ticking down. But Monaleen kept their noses in front with a couple of late points, edging the final scoreline by the narrowest of margins: 5-8 to 4-10. While the result didn’t go Mungret St. Pauls way, it was a performance full of fight, belief, and quality. The comeback from a 12-point early deficit showed the team’s heart, and the narrow loss will no doubt fuel further growth as the group prepares for Minor Championship.
