Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:
County Players:
The Limerick U-20 Hurlers played Waterford on Wednesday 9 April 2025 in Dungarvan. Well done to the team who were behind for most of the game but came back fighting in the second half and with Mungret St. Pauls players crucial to the final score it was Mark O’Briens long range free taking that narrowed the gap with Sean Duff scoring the equalizer. Well done to Mungret St. Pauls players Sean Duff, Mark O’Brien and team captain Fintan Fitzgerald.
County Camogie U16B:
Well done to Limerick Camogie U16B squad including our own Roisin O’Neill and Saoirse Aherne who beat Waterford in the U16 Development Round 2 on Saturday in a sun drenched Kilmallock. Final score Limerick 1-14 Waterford 3-2.
County Camogie U16A:
Hard luck to the U16A squad who were beaten by a strong Cork team on Sunday in Castle Road. This was the last round of the championship for the girls. Well done to all, including our own Aoife Boyce and Abbey Nealon.
Limerick Celtic Challenge Hurling team were unfortunate in their lost to Cork East on Saturday 12 April 2025 in Charleville. Mungret St Paul’s are delighted to have players Rory Gleeson and Rory O’Callaghan who captains the team on the panel with Conor O’Brien as the goalie coach. Ladies Football:
The Ladies Football League campaigns commenced on Sunday 6th April. Mungret St. Paul’s fielded three adult teams in three different divisions, Division 1, Division 4 and Division 5.
The first match was in the Division 4 League away to Gerald Griffins. This team made it to the league final last year, and they have their sights set firmly on going that one step further this year. They got off to a great start and despite playing against a very strong wind in the second half, came away with the win, with an impressive scoreline of 5-12 to 2-3. Well done to all involved with this team.
The second match was our Division 5 team who took on Ballybrown at home on Sunday afternoon, captained by Siadbh Redmond. For some of the players, it was their first time playing on an adult ladies football team for Mungret St. Paul’s, a great experience for them all. A fantastic display of skills, work rate and teamwork meant another win for Mungret ladies on the day. Well done to all involved.
Finally, our Division 1 team were out against Oola on Sunday evening. An eagerly awaited match, as the last time these two sides met in the league, a spot in the league final hung in the balance. A last minute goal for Mungret on the day put them through to the league final. Captained by Áine Ryan, the Mungret girls got off to a great start with an early goal but this was quickly answered when Oola kicked three quick points over the bar. A fast paced and hard fought first half left the teams level at half time with a scoreline 1-2 to 0-5. Fiona Morrissey found the back of the net again putting Mungret in the lead which they held onto until the final whistle blew. Final score Mungret St. Paul’s 3-5 Oola 0-7. Well done to all involved. A special mention and warm welcome to all our new players who have joined this year and welcome back to Rosie Giltenane.
U16 A Camogie:

Eithne Neville Camogie Cup:
Congratulations to the City Camogie Team who won the Eithne Neville Cup last Thursday in Rathkeale, especially our very own Leah Níc Amhlaoibh Gaelscoil an Ráithín and Aisling Carroll St Nessans
Eithne Neville took up the role of Secretary of Munster Council (1963-2009), she won an All Ireland senior medal with Limerick Camogie in 1957; three Ashbourne medals with UCD (1953, 1954 and 1955) and a Gael Linn with Munster in 1961.
She combined the roles of management and refereeing, overseeing two All Ireland Finals in 1960 and 1967 before later coaching Limerick to Junior All Ireland success in 1977. Eithne acted as Chairperson of Limerick County Board from 1967 to 1969 and was the first President of Munster Camogie Council.
What a fantastic honor it is for Leah and Aisling to win this cup named after such an iconic limerick camogie figure.
Enjoy the celebrations girls, hopefully one of the first of many in your camogie career!
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-15 Na Piarsaigh 2-9
There was nothing to separate the sides as Mungret St. Paul’s and Na Piarsaigh played out a dramatic draw in their Senior Football League clash on Wednesday evening, 9 April 2025, in Caherdavin. In a game that was finely poised throughout, both teams showed moments of quality and grit, with Na Piarsaigh’s goals proving crucial in keeping them in the contest against a more consistent Mungret St. Pauls side who registered fifteen points without raising a green flag.
The first half was an evenly matched affair. Mungret St. Pauls were slick in attack, racking up eight points from a mix of placed balls and open play. Na Piarsaigh, meanwhile, made the most of their chances and capitalised on a defensive lapse to bag the game’s opening goal. At the interval, the sides were deadlocked at 0-8 to 1-5.
The second half saw Mungret St. Pauls continue to chip away with points, showcasing sharp movement and good shot selection. They appeared to be pulling away midway through the half, but Na Piarsaigh struck again with a second goal, this time from a fast break that cut through the Mungret St. Pauls defence.
Despite a late push from both teams, neither could find the winning score in the final minutes. Mungret St. Pauls may feel they left a win behind after dominating possession in spells, while Na Piarsaigh will be pleased with their efficiency in front of goal.
It’s a result that keeps both sides ticking along in the league as they are both on seven points after four games with plenty to build on for Mungret St. Pauls heading into the last round against Ballyanders in two weeks time.
U-13 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-5 Monaleen 2-9
In a closely fought U-13 Division 3 Football encounter, Mungret St. Paul’s came up just short against a strong Monaleen outfit, losing out by a single point in a hugely entertaining match that ended 3-5 to 2-9 in the Crescent Comprehensive pitch on Thursday, April 10th, 2025.
The opening half saw Mungret St. Pauls defending with real determination against a well-drilled Monaleen side. Despite Monaleen enjoying the lion’s share of possession, Mungret St. Pauls took their chances when they came, bagging a crucial goal to stay in the game. At the break, Monaleen held a narrow 0-5 to 1-0 lead.
The second half exploded into life as both sides upped the intensity. Mungret St. Pauls forwards began to find their rhythm, with two well-taken goals lifting the team and their supporters. The Mungret St. Pauls U-12 boys showed great teamwork and resilience, with the defence putting in a tireless shift against waves of Monaleen attacks. Monaleen, however, responded with two goals of their own and added vital points to edge ahead. In a frantic final few minutes, Mungret St. Pauls pushed hard for an equaliser and were unlucky not to snatch a draw, with one late chance skimming just wide. Despite the narrow defeat, it was a spirited and encouraging display from the young Mungret St. Pauls lads, who showed real heart, skill, and teamwork throughout the match. Plenty of positives to take forward for the rest of the campaign after this teams first competitive match.
Junior B Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-11 South Liberties 1-16
South Liberties came out on top in a fiercely contested Junior B Hurling League encounter on Friday 11 April 2025, narrowly defeating Mungret St. Paul’s by two points on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-11 in Mungret, in a game that ebbed and flowed, both sides had their moments of dominance, but it was the visitors who showed that bit more composure down the stretch to seal the win.
Mungret St. Pauls struck first blood with an early goal that rattled the net and gave the home crowd something to cheer about. Their forwards were lively throughout the opening half, and they drew 2-6 to 1-9 at the break, thanks to some sharp shooting from play and a crucial goal just on the half time whistle.
South Liberties, however, regrouped after halftime. Their half-back line began to dominate, cutting off Mungret St. Pauls supply and launching a series of counterattacks that kept the scoreboard ticking. Mungret St. Pauls responded with some well taken shots to reignite hopes of a late comeback, but South Liberties kept their nerve, tacking on a couple of late frees to edge the contest by two.
It was a gritty, competitive game that showcased the hunger and heart of Junior B hurling. Both sides will take plenty of positives, but it’s South Liberties who leave Mungret with the spoils. With Mungret St. Pauls now sitting in second last place on the table after three matches having won only one. They are out again next week against Caherline.
Long PUC and CIC:
Well done to all who took part in the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stakes Long Puc and Long Cic on Saturday 12 April 2025 in Limerick Greyhound track. Mungret St. Pauls were well represented by Liv Cantillon and Iseult Ni hAnnaidh in Camogie, Emma Guerin and Sophie Ryan in Ladies Football, Danny Moriarty and Sean Finnerty in hurling and Carter Cullinan and Gearoid Ahern in Football. There was some very tough competition on the night with our own Emma making it through to the Long Cic final but was unlucky to not win.
Retirement:
Happy Retirement to Mungret St. Pauls Volunteer and great supporter, Trish Barry!
After years of dedicated service and brightening the days of so many, Trish is hanging up the uniform and delivering her final post around the Mungret area. Her kindness, smiles, and chats at the door will be truly missed by everyone on her route, especially our own club members. She had to make sure to make a delivery to our Ladies Football President, Gemma O’Grady this morning on her farewell trip. Thank you, Trish, for all you have done, especially during Covid Lockdown where you made sure the people on your route were all safe. Wishing you all the happiness and relaxation in this well-earned new chapter, the golf clubs will be getting plenty of use now when you’re not on the sideline at club matches of coarse.
Enjoy every moment.
