Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:
Medal Presentation:
Last Friday evening saw our Mungret St. Pauls GAA Juvenile One Club medal presentation night to the teenage teams. During the evening teams from LGFA, Camogie, GAA football and GAA Hurling were honoured on their achievements starting with youngest teams first. The Chairpersons from each code spoke very highly of the effort and the commitment that the players showed in 2024 and want that to continue on in 2025.
Teams were awarded at various grades for participation, runners up, winners of Club Tournaments, right up to winners of County League and County Championship titles. First up we had the U13 Camogie Shield winners and the U13 Regina Long Competition winners. This was followed by two LGFA U14 teams, one team were runners up in their competition while the other team are the Championship winners. The GAA Football U14 team accepted their Div2 County Championship awards and then we moved up the age group to the U15 Camogie Development Plate winners. The Club U16 teams at this age group were very successful having two LGFA U16 teams winning the B Championship and the C Championship respectively, the U16 Camogie coming in runners up and U16 GAA Footballers winning the Div1 Championship as well as the U16 Hurlers winning the Div1 Championship too and accepting their County medals. The awards were closed out with the U17 hurlers accepting their Div 1 League medals. the night was finished off with some finger food and good fun in the Community Hall and bar with plenty of photos going around. We would like to Thank the parents, volunteers and coaches from each code for their time and dedication, for without them we would not be where we are today. Congratulations to all teams involved. Presenting the medals to the Girls teams were All-Ireland Winners Clare O Meara, Shannon Burke, Lisa Reilly, Laura Dunne, Jayne Casey and Camogie player Ciara Brennan.
Ladies Football:
Well done to the 9 ladies who wore the green at the weekend. The Limerick under 14 team played Kildare in a challenge match last weekend, from Mungret were Sadhbh Hanley, Ava Larkin, Sophie Lynch and Kate Ryan. At under 16 level Sive Finnerty, Sophia Neville, Eilis O Neill, Roisin O Neill and Emma Somers played Kilkenny in a challenge match in UL.
Also well done to Carol Bateman and the Limerick junior team who had a comprehensive victory over Offaly.

On Saturday 8th February the U6 – U12 Medal presentation for Ladies Football took place in the Community Centre. The hall was packed out. Chairperson Siobhán Horgan opened the evening by welcoming everybody. Volunteers and especially the Coaches were given a special mention for their time and commitment which they give freely week in and week out. The Senior team have now given the underage girls in the club something to aspire to, that they too can become All-Ireland Winners. “Give the girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” Marliyn Munroe.
Presenting the medals were All Ireland Champions Carol Bateman and Sarah Horgan.
The ‘Seamus Mc Closkey Club person of the year” for 2025 was for the first time ever given to a team. The recipients were the Ladies Football team for their outstanding achievements in 2024. County, Munster and All Ireland Winners.
Siobhán Horgan presented the Perpetual Trophy to team representatives Carol Bateman and Sarah Horgan.
County Camogie:
The Championship kicked off Sunday in Thomastown where we saw the Limerick Camogie U16A team take on Kilkenny in the 1st Round. It was a very competitive game, but unfortunately the cats came away with a narrow win. Thanks to FLO Trisha Kelly for the updates! Fulltime Score: Kilkenny: 1-16 Limerick: 2-11.
Secondary School:
Congratulations to Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ who on Saturday headed to Castlecomer to take on Castlecomer Community School in the All Ireland Junior Semi Final LHCFCJ dominated from throw in, and battled hard throughout in what was a very physical game. Well done to players Saoirse Browne, Eilis & Roisin O’Neill and Management Luke, Alan and Emer. They are now All Ireland Final bound, where they will meet St. Pius X College Magherafelt. College:
The Electric Ireland Camogie Third Level Championships Finals took place yesterday in the Connaught Centre of Excellence. We were delighted to have Amy O’Halloran on the Purcell Cup Team and it was a local derby in the shape of UL vs Mary Immaculate College. It was a tough battle throughout, but MIC came away as the winners.

County Football:
Not the best day for the Limerick minor footballers as they took a defeat to Offaly on Saturday 15 February. Well done to Mungret St. Pauls players Amhlaoibh Bohane and Jack Dervan who were on the panel, Jamie Curtin was unavailable.
Well done to the Limerick Senior Football team that played London on Sunday, 16 February in McGovern Park, Ruislip. Mungret St. Pauls are delighted to have Killian Ryan and Darragh O’Hagan on the panel with Jack McCarthy, Jason Hassett and Ronan McElligott on the extended panel with Micheál Cahill and Pa Ranahan on the management.
Congratulations to Diarmaid Hynes in his role as Captain of the Limerick U-20 Football team for 2025. They played a challenge match against Offaly’s Centre of Excellence where they won 2-11 to 1-8. Well done to Diarmaid, Luke Walsh and Tom Lloyd with Jake Foley unavailable.
County Football:
The Limerick U-16 hurling team travelled to Kerry to play in the Todd Nolan Tournament, Limerick went into extra time to come out with a two point win over Clare, they then played a very strong Cork team in the cup final while Clare played Kerry in the plate Final with Cork and winning their matches. Well done to Ruairí Dwane who was part of the panel on the day.
