U-20 Premier Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-7 Monaleen 1-7
It was a dry but very breezy day on Saturday 30 November 2024 when our U-20 Premier Footballers took on Monaleen in the Semi Final in St. Patricks.
Mungret St. Pauls played with the breeze in the first half and took advantage of the breeze sending a long shot into the forwards. While Monaleen were first to score, Mungret St. Pauls attacked the goals first but were unlucky in their first attempt. The second chance just after ten minutes and two points saw Mungret St. Pauls take a four point lead. This was then repeated with another two points followed by a team goal seeing out the end of the first half, Mungret St. Pauls with a nine point lead.
The second half saw Monaleen with the breeze and Mungret St. Pauls working on defence. Monaleen had two points added to their one before they went to go for a quick three pointer only for the quick hand of the Mungret St. Pauls defence to bounce the ball away from the goal line only for Monaleen to come back three minutes later and hit the target followed by a point from a free to narrow Mungret St. Pauls lead to three point. A point from a Mungret St. Pauls player came when a score was needed only for a black card bringing Mungret St. Pauls down to 14 men for ten minutes. Monaleen managed to add on two more points, edging closer to Mungret St. Pauls who kept working the ball up the pitch to get their scores. The next four points were shared between to the two sides as Mungret St. Pauls played out the injury time to successfully go through to the final against Fr. Caseys in the U-20 Premier Football Final in The Bog Garden on Sunday 8 December at 1pm.
Well done to all our players who had a tough time playing with and against a strong breeze and in a physically strong game.
Ireland Lights Up:
The GAA is excited to announce the return of two highly popular initiatives for 2025, Ireland Lights Up and Irish Life’s Every Step Counts Challenge on their MyLife app. Both initiatives aim to inspire people across Ireland to stay active, improve their wellbeing, and come together on the dark winter evenings, and have grown to be amongst the largest community physical activity initiatives on the island.
Ireland Lights Up will commence on the week of January 6th, 2025, and will run for 6 weeks Mungret St. Pauls taking part. Running at the same time will be the hugely popular Irish Life Every Step Counts Challenge, hosted on their MyLife app. Back for a sixth year in 2025, the challenge offers participants the chance to win a share of €30,000 in club funding that Irish Life has made available for the ‘Every Step Counts Challenge’ donation fund. Everyone who downloads Irish Life’s MyLife app will also get rewarded for being active!
How to Get Involved
Register yourself on the Irish Life Every Step Counts app with Mungret St. Pauls and help build up the steps for your club. To fill the void of Operation Transformation, the GAA is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with the recently launched 40-Day Health Challenge featuring personal trainer Karl Henry, GP Dr Sumi Dunne, clinical psychologist Dr Eddie Murphy and dietician Sophie Pratt. This is a nationwide digital health and wellbeing campaign from the makers of Operation Transformation and will run online from 6th January to 14th February. As was the case during Operation Transformation, each week, a club participating in Ireland Lights Up will get a visit from the camera crew to showcase how they are supporting the health and wellbeing of their members and community on the 40 Day Health Challenge.
Juvenile AGM:
Thank you to all who attended the Juvenile AGM on Wednesday 27 November 2024. Thank you to all the coaches who have guided our young players over the last year and in encouraging them to better their skills. Each head coach sent in a report on their achievements and some disappointments during the year, there were a lot of busy days for our players which was great to hear of the blitzes, tournaments and days away paying teams from different counties. Breandan O’hAnnaidh was re-elected for another year as Chairperson with Kevin O’Hagan being re-elected as Juvenile secretary but there is a call to anyone who would be interested in taking on the Secretary or Chairpersons role to please make contact with Kevin on secretarybng.mungret.limerick@gaa.ie
