Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:
Ladies Football:
Well done to the Minor team on their opening match of the Championship. They were away to Dromcollogher/Broadford on Sunday last on a fierce blustery morning. Thanks to the younger members of the squad for stepping up showing great football skill, they fitted right in. Well done to the other team members many of whom played in the Junior County final on Saturday afternoon, and in just over 24 hours were out again for their second match. Fantastic to see 3 sisters lining out together Aimee, Sarah and Lorna Horgan. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go in Mungrets favour. Final score: Dromcollogher/Broadford 4.09 Mungret 2.09. Minor Panel Saoirse Ahern, Jillian Buckley, Jayne Casey, Grace Kelly, Aimee Horgan, Lorna Horgan, Sarah Horgan, Niamh Hynes, Càit Murphy, Amy O Halloran, Katie O Mahony, Molly O Mahony, Emma O Rourke, Aisling O Sullivan, Mary Kate Ryan, Molly Tobin.
Ladies Football:
Junior B County Final
Mungret 4-8 Galtee Gaels 5-7
Hard luck to our Junior B Ladies Football team who narrowly missed out on the county final title last Saturday 19th October in Oola. Mungret won the toss and chose to play with the wind in the first half. The game got off to a very good start for Galtee Gaels who lead by a goal and 2 points to no score in the first 10 minutes. The Mungret girls quickly came back and began to play their own game, showing impeccable skill and put on a magnificent display of teamwork and support for one another. Flawless hand-passing and incredibly skilful scores put them in the lead by 2 points at half time. Mungret were facing into a tough second half against a strong breeze but the girls were up for the challenge. A few early frees put Mungret 4 points ahead but Galtee Gaels used the wind to their advantage and answered with three quick points. The referee then awarded Galtee Gaels two penalties putting them in the lead which they held onto for the remainder of the game. Mungret got a penalty in the last 5 minutes to put them back in the race but time went against the girls who were very unlucky not to get another goal in the closing few seconds to win the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day and we’d like to congratulate Galtee Gaels and thank them for a fantastic game of football and wish them all the best in the Junior A championship next year.
The season is now over for the Junior B team but what a successful year they have had. This team reached a league final and a county final and have a lot to be proud of. They have developed an incredible bond between them over the last year and is a team full of amazing talent. They are already looking forward to next year. Well done ladies. Many thanks to all who have helped out and trained this team all year, it’s much appreciated. A special mention and thanks to the management team Liz Morgan and Mary Murphy. Many thanks to Oola GAA club for the use of their facilities.

U6 & U8 Camogie:
On Thursday night our U6 and U8 camogie players received a visit from #MSPCamogie Chairperson Mary Larkin who was only delighted to tell them all how amazing they are and give out some treats in the process for all their hard work!
Being an #MSPCamogie club member is about so much more than playing camogie. It’s almost like joining a second family. Along with making a whole new circle of friends, your daughter will enjoy great days with her teammates like this and much more!
Why not think of enrolling your daughter as a member for 2025? You won’t regret it! Check out the Mungret St Pauls webpage for details on how to register.
U-13 Hurling:
On Saturday Oct 12th the u13 hurlers and footballers left Mungret on their end-of-season trip, visiting Munster footgolf near Shannon in Clare where 27 players and 3 coaches battled their way around the 18-hole course for the title of Mungret U13 footgolf champion. Refueling after that round, it was back on the bus and off to karting at Pallas Karting, Tynagh, Co. Galway. A visit to Supermacs at the Galway Plaza followed and then the back down the road to Limerick after a very enjoyable trip.
Raymond O Hagan U13 Football Tournament:
The Annual Raymond O’Hagan U13 Football tournament was held in Mungret on a gloriously bright Saturday, 19 October 2024. Five clubs travelled to Mungret (Naas, Bishopstown, Lissycassy, St.Josephs Doora-Barefield and Oranmore-Maree) to battle it out with the locals for the 2024 title. The format was a single group of 6 with each team playing all the other teams. The top two teams at the end of the round-robin stage would contest the Cup, teams 3 and 4 would contest the shield and the bottom two the 5/6thplayoff.
Mungret started strong with two wins but as the games came and went it was clear that the long season was beginning to catch up with the players. A draw followed by two narrow defeats meant Mungret finished in 4th and were to battle Doora-Barefield in the Shield final. After a few rounds of games it was becoming obvious that Naas and Bishopstown were going to be the teams to beat and so it was no surprise to see them occupy the top two spots in the table. Oranmore-Maree finished in 5th with Lissycasey finishing in 6th after losing one of their star players early to a bad wrist injury.
The Shield final was a very tight affair and both teams were showing signs of fatigue from the earlier matches. Doora-Barefield held a 1pt lead going into the closing stages and no matter what Mungret tried they just couldn’t get that score to push it to extra time. And so St.Joseph’s Doora-Barefield claimed the Shield title.
The Cup final was a very entertaining match with Bishopstown getting an early 3pt lead. That was cancelled out by a Naas goal towards the end of the first half and it finished level at half time. In the second half Naas opened up a 2pt lead and Bishopstown eventually brought the gap back to 1pt. Then in the dying seconds a Bishopstown free was to go agonizingly wide and from the kickout the final whistle blew and Naas were crowned the Raymond O’Hagan Cup Champions for 2024.
A big thank you to the clubs who visited Mungret, to all who helped out on the day with the running of the tournament and most importantly to the Mungret U13 footballers who left it all on the pitch.
U-14 Football:
On Tuesday, 22 October 2024 our U-14 Footballers welcomed St. Patricks to the Astro pitch where they two sides played in the Super 10s game. As there were only the two teams left in the group and only two teams go through to the Provincial finals the game was only a formality. It was a fast game with only 10 players from each team on the pitch there was a lot of running through out. It was a tight enough game with plenty of scores on both sides it came down to one goal to separate the two sides with St. Patricks being the victors. Well done to our players and the best of Luck on Saturday 2 November at 10.30am in Mick Neville Park.
U-20 Premier Hurling:
On Friday 25 October 2024 Mungret St. Pauls U-20 premier hurlers and Kilmallock met under lights in Rhebogue in the next round of matches. It started out as a tight game with little between them. It was the goal for Mungret St. Pauls just after ten minutes that changed the game with Mungret St. Pauls holding the lead for what was left of the game. At the break there was only two points separating the two sides after Kilmallock scored their own goal just seconds before the half time whistle. Back out and the two sides restarted their scoring again with Mungret St. Pauls still holding onto the lead but with just under ten minutes into the second half one of the lights went off and the game was paused, in trying to fix the lights a second set went and the match was abandoned with the score at Mungret St. Pauls 1-18 Kilmallock 1-13.
