Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:
Junior 12 A Side Camogie:
Mungret St.Pauls 0-12 Croagh/Kilfinny Camogie Club 1-04
Our Junior 12-a-side camogie squad had their third outing of the championship at home to Croagh Kilfinny on Sunday afternoon last.
The old cliché of a game of two halves was truly apt on the day. The visitors were out of the blocks quicker and were a deserving 1-04 to 0-3 up at half time. However, it was Mungret who came out in the second half with far greater focus and much improved application. Their overall play was electrifying at times, with passes being more carefully selected and better shooting options being taken. Some outstanding long-range points were put over.
The format of the 12-a-side lends itself to open and attacking camogie and the Mungret girls looked to be reaping the rewards of the hard work they had been putting in on the training ground. Their fitness really showed with them holding Croagh Kilfinny scoreless in the second half while tacking on 9 points themselves. Another hugely encouraging performance from this young side with a number of our U16s shining again.
Their next fixture is away on Friday September 20th to Feenagh/Kilmeedy GAA & Camogie Club. Thanks to Morgan Lyons for the report.
U10 Camogie:
Well done to our U10s who travelled to Crecora for a wonderful evening of matches against the hosts, St Kierans, Pallasgreen and Murroe Boher. Plenty of action across the pitches with both coaches and spectators impressed with the standard of camogie. It’s clear that all their practice is starting to pay off!

U-16 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-20 Murroe Boher 2-16
There was an early start for our U-16 Hurlers as they made their way to Mick Neville Park on Saturday 21 September 2024 for the Division 1 Semi Final against Murroe Boher. Both sides kept up with each other in the scores right up until the final whistle of normal time, with Mungret St. Pauls lucky to get the draw in the final minute. It was extra time that really separated the two sides with Mungret St. Pauls putting in an extra level of effort to pull them through to the Final.
An early shot on the Murroe Boher goalie saw him block the ball out of danger, the first six points were then shared between the two teams until just into the second quarter when Murroe Boher rattled the net. Mungret St. Pauls brought the game back level with the next three points and added on another two point to hold a small lead going into half time. Mungret St. Pauls 0-8 Murroe Boher 1-3.
It only took two minutes for Murroe Boher to level the game again followed by an exchange of frees, Murroe Boher held a one point lead for a little while but with ten minutes left Mungret St. Pauls saw the game level again. Three points from play for Murroe Boher saw them with a good lead and only five minutes left on the clock, it was not looking good for Mungret St. Pauls but they found and extra gear and pushed on to draw the game with one minute to spare to bring the game into extra time.
Mungret St. Pauls did not hold back at the start of extra time as they drove home two goals and a point before Murroe Boher managed to get their scores going with three points to Mungret St. Pauls one before the turn around at half time. The second half saw more points coming from Mungret St. Pauls along with their goal of the game. Murroe Bohers only reply was a point and a goal to leave Mungret St. Pauls winning by seven points. They now go on to play Croom Ballybricken Bohermore in the Final in a few weeks.

Intermediate Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-22 St. Kierans 0-11
The last match for our Intermediate Hurlers took place in Askeaton on Saturday 21 September 2024 when they played St. Kierans in a hard hitting but one sided game.
Mungret St. Pauls took an early four point lead going into the second quarter before St. Kierans pulled it back a bit with three points to Mungret St. Pauls one. It was with ten minutes left in the first half when Mungret St. Pauls smashed the ball into the St. Kierans net. An exchange of points finished out the half, score was Mungret St. Pauls 1-8 St Kierans 0-6.
Mungret St. Pauls had the better restart scoring six points without reply, St. Kierans next three points were matched by Mungret St. Pauls. Mungret St. Pauls added on another four points before both sides put their final ball over the bar. Mungret St. Pauls finished out their last Intermediate match of the year with a fourteen point win, they now take a break until next year but our U-20 players still have their championship to prepare to start.

Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-15 Na Piarsaigh 2-21
On Sunday 22 September 2024, the Mungret St. Pauls Senior Hurlers played the last of their Senior A matches in Kilmallock against Na Piarsaigh. The result of their game changed nothing as Na Piarsaigh had already secured their Semi Final place while Mungret St. Pauls were returning to Senior B for 2025.
Na Piarsaigh got up and running straight away with a point for each of the first three minutes but once Mungret St. Pauls found their feet they matched each point to level the game on four points each. Na Piarsaigh then had a surge of score as they added another two points and a well worked ball saw itself passed the Mungret St. Pauls defence and into the back of the net to boost the lead Na Piarsaigh already had. Another two scores from Na Piarasigh saw them seven points in the lead but Mungret St. Pauls never gave up and a shot on goal was deflected out only to land at a Mungret St. Pauls player who swiftly picked it up and returned it to the back of the Na Piarsaigh net to put Mungret St. Pauls back into the game. The next six points were divided equally between the two sides before the half time whistle left Mungret St. Pauls 1-7 Na Piarsaigh 1-11.
After the break Na Piarsaigh yet again hit their scores adding on another four before Mungret St. Pauls got a reply back. The next six points were shared between the two sides and it was then with ten minutes left that Mungret St. Pauls hit a good rhythm as they added on three points on the trot, lessening the gap to four points. Unfortunately, this was not for long as Na Piarsaigh found their grounding again and added another three to Mungret St. Pauls one before closing the game out with the last goal coming from a Na Piarsaigh hurley. A great effort from Mungret St. Pauls who knew that the result would not change anything but they gave what they could to the game. This was the last hurling game for some of our players as they take a well earned break but our senior footballers and U-20 players still have matches to prepare for.
