Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Intermediate Ladies Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 5-14 Athea 0-9
On Sunday 8th September, the Intermediate Ladies Football Team took on Athea at home in the Intermediate Championship Quarter Final. As Mungret topped their group in group 2 they had home advantage against Athea who had placed fourth in group 1. With a semi-final place up for grabs and the competition at knock out stages, a win was a must for both teams. Mungret started well against a strong breeze with a goal and 4 points within the first 10 minutes before Athea had a chance to get on the scoreboard. Mungret continued strongly, finishing on top at half time, with a score line of 2-7 to 0-2. Athea came out fighting in the second half but the Mungret girls kept the scoreboard ticking over with some fantastic passages of play and excellent contributions from the five substitutes. The game finished up with a final score of Mungret 5-14, Athea 0-9. Congratulations to all involved and it was great to see so many come out to show their support for the girls.

Regina Long Tournament:
The weather gods were on our side last Saturday when the creme de la creme of Limerick City and County U13 camogie players gathered at MSP Camogie HQ for the much anticipated 2024 Regina Long Tournament!
The day kicked off with all visiting 440 players, adorning their club banners and flags being led in a Parade by the Limerick City Pipe Band around the club grounds, a perfect opportunity for parents and spectators to take pictures as memories for years to come. Warms ups quickly ensued with throw-in for the first matches from 10:30am and continued, back to back, throughout the day with people coming in their droves to witness their skills and determination from the side lines.
We were also delighted to have some great representation as always from the Hughes, Long & Lyons Families keeping the main reason all the players were there at the forefront!
The action was mighty, with score runners quickly flying around all 4 pitches back to base to our score master to keep everyone up to date on the happenings.
Results:
MSP Camogie CUP Champions 2024!
Blackrock Effin Shield Champions 2024!
Player of the shield tournament went to Patrickswells Katelyn Foley
Player of the cup tournament went to Mungrets Sadhbh Hanly!
We must thank all the volunteers who were on hand from 8am to ensure everyone who visited the club knew where they were going and were well catered to. Thanks to our traffic stewards, pitch coordinators, score runners, score master, hall stewards, Photographers Wanda and Andrei and our Camogie Club Committee – this day would not have been possible without you. The Irish Red Cross thankfully didn’t have too many casualties and the Hungry Lyons and Shannon Ices were on hand to feed to masses! We were also proud to have Limerick City Community host their outside broadcast for the day, with plenty of representatives only delighted to talk about all the amazing work going into club and county camogie. Lasy but not least, thanks to our 4 referees, who kept the day flowing!
The future of Limerick Camogie soared in #MSPCamogie HQ on Saturday, long may these girls reign!
U14s Camogie:
We had a double win last week for our Mackey and Shannon teams v Ahane at home and Tournafulla away. Thanks to referees Nigel Carey and Seanie Gleeson and well done to Captains Chloe McAuliffe and Meabh Kelly who led their teams well on the night!
12 A-Side Camogie:
Our Junior 12-a-side camogie squad had their second outing of the championship at home to Tournafulla on Friday evening. The visitors had the better of the first half and lead 2-06 to 1-03 at half time. Mungret fought back gamely in the second half and wrestled control, dominating possession from beginning to end. However, the old adage that goals win games was proven right once again. A slew of 45s, four incredible saves from the Tournafulla goalie and multiple rattled crossbars by Mungret told the story of their effort and misfortune on the night. In contrast Tournafulla were the team to raise the green flag at the other end from a rare second half attack. Another hugely encouraging performance from this young side with a number of our U16s shining again on the night. Their next fixture is 2pm Sunday September 15th at home to Croagh Kilfinny, do come out and support.
Captain: Isobel Archer.
U16 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-12 Monaleen 2-7
On Monday 9 September our U-16 Footballers took on Monaleen in the Division 1 Quarter Final in the Mungret Senior Pitch. Only 10 minutes in and Mungret St. Pauls had their first goal scored and with both sides having pointed twice the goal was what separated the sides. It was not much longer though before Monaleen rattled the Mungret St. Pauls net and managed to level the game. With six minutes of the first half left Mungret St. Pauls pushed on and finished strong leaving the pitch Mungret St. Pauls 1-7 Monaleen 1-3.
It was Monaleen that started better at the restart as they added on three points to Mungret St. Pauls two before they scored their second goal to level the game again. There was a gap in scores as both set of defenders were worked hard to clear their lines but it was Mungret St. Pauls that got the next two point, with Monaleen adding on one more point, Mungret St. Pauls finished the game out with their second goal and one last point to go through to the Semi Final in a few weeks.
U14 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-9 Pallasgreen 1-4
It was a very breezy evening in Mick Neville Park on Saturday 14 September 2024 when our U-14 Footballers took on Pallasgreen in the Division 2 Cup Semi Final. Mungret St. Pauls were playing into the breeze in the first half but they seemed to work better the first half as they proved too strong for Pallasgreen having put up four points and a goal before Pallasgreen got their scores going, with three points from frees, Mungret St. Pauls knocked in their last two goals to finish the first half comfortably.
The second half with Mungret St. Pauls having the breeze did not help them much as they sent the ball off target a few times but they still added on another five points to Pallasgreens only point and goal to win the game and go on to prepare to play Athea in the Cup Final in a few weeks.

U12 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls U-12 hurlers traveled to St.Josephs in Doora Barefield where they played the hosts, Michael Cusacks, Clarinbridge, Cuala and Dúrlas Óg. Well done to our team who won the Cup, with the U11 hurlers busy with the Pa O’Brien tournament this team was fielded by only twelve year olds. A great achievement for our players, congratulations.
Premier Junior A Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-7 Feenagh Kilmeedy 0-14
Mungret St. Pauls Premier Junior A Footballers were in Ballingarry on Saturday 14 September 2024 when they played the last of their group games against Feenagh Kilmeedy. These were two well matched teams as they kept close with each other in their scores, after the first twenty minutes the sides were level with Mungret St. Pauls 1-4 and Feenagh Kilmeedy on 7 points. Each side only added on one more point each by the half time whistle to stay level.
Back into the second half and it looked like Mungret St. Pauls were the better sides as they added a goal and a point to Feenagh Kilmeedys opening point. Feenagh Kilmeedy found a second gear as they started to pop over points to edge closer to Mungret St. Pauls lead. Mungret St. Pauls were unlucky in their frees as the ball was swept to the wrong side of the uprights. It was Feenagh Kilmeedy who squeezed out the win in the end this now leaves Mungret St. Pauls in a relegation play off to try keep their Premier Junior A Football status.
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-9 St. Kierans 1-5
On Saturday 14 September 2024 our Senior Footballers were in The Bog Garden, Rathkeale in the last of their group matches against St. Kierans . With Mungret St. Pauls already in a Semi Final position, St. Kierans needed the win to stay Senior.
Mungret St. Pauls opened the score with two points before St. Kierans replied with their first point. Another point from Mungret St. Pauls before St. Kierans broke through our defence and hit the net to take a one point lead for the first time. This did not last long as Mungret St. Pauls came back with two points but it was St. Kierans that left the pitch with a one point lead as they squeezed in an additional two points, half time score Mungret St. Pauls 0-5 St. Kierans 1-3.
It took a few minutes but it was Mungret St. Pauls that leveled the game with the first point of the half. This was the only score for the next ten minutes as both sides hit wides. An exchange of points saw both sides still level nearing the end of normal time but a surge in injury time saw Mungret St. Pauls pull ahead with a goal and a point. A great team effort from all. Mungret St. Pauls now wait until the weekend of October 19/20 for the Semi Final.
