Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Limerick Players:
The Limerick Gaelic masters took on Kerry on Friday 19 July 2024 at a home venue of Dromcollogher/Broadford. Our own Breandan O’hAnnaidh was on the pitch where they were just unlucky to come off in second place, Limerick 0-7 Kerry 1-10. Well done to Breandan and team for all the hard work they are putting in, most of these players have young families and are committed to coaching in their own clubs while also having a full time job.
Well done to the #MSPCamogie girls Aoife Boyce, Abbey Nealon and Roisin O’Neill who headed to Mallow Sports Complex last weekend to take part in the U15 intercounty blitz representing Limerick camogie. It was a very enjoyable and competitive day of camogie for all teams involved. It was great to see them come away with a win against Clare in the Shield Final!
A great day at the office for both of the Limerick camogie U14 squads in Thurles on Saturday for the Orla McDonagh Intercounty blitz.
We had 4 #MSPCamogie girls representing the club in the green and white of Limerick–well done to Rosa Harrington, Eilish O’Neill, Chloe McAuliffe and Saoirse Browne who did us very proud in some humdingers of games in the top 2 divisions! Looking forward to the Camogie national blitz in 2 wks time in Dublin!
The Academy hurlers were in action at the weekend. The U-14 hurlers were in Borris in Ossary and in Ballincollig with mixed results from both venues. Well done to our club players Cian Reilly and Sean Donnelly who also captained the team on the day.
The U-15 hurlers were in Claregalway playing Clare and in Old Christians playing Laois with both teams achieving wins, well done to our club player Ruairí Dwane who played Laois.
The U-16 hurlers played Tipperary with them also getting a positive result. Well done to our club players Killian Begley, Rory Gleeson and Oisin Donnelly who were on the match panel and to Rory O’Callaghan who was unavailable.

U13 Camogie:
Big thanks to everyone who came to Cappamore on Saturday for the U13 finals day where we had 2 teams taking part!
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for our A Team, who were minus a few regulars but put up a good fight led by Captain Ava Larkin against a strong Newcastlewest who took the cup back west.
Our B team put up a heroic effort against Knockaderry/Ballyagran led by Captain Lily McMahon going into extra time and coming out even Stephens at the end of that! So it was decided by both teams to share the Plate! Huge congratulations to this great little team-we are so proud of you all!
Huge thanks to Limerick Camogie & Limerick Camogie Development for all the hard work that goes into these leagues, the girls certainly enjoyed the fruits of your labour. Thanks for all the sideline support yesterday and thanks also to our coaches!
Ladies Football:
Mungret ladies travelled to Cappamore GAA pitch on Saturday 20th July for the division 4 Ladies Football League Final against Galtee Gaels. The girls were unbeaten heading into the final, after topping their group and beating Ballylanders in the semi-final 2 weeks prior. Galtee Gaels won the toss and chose to play with the wind meaning Mungret faced a very strong wind in the first half. The girls displayed some fantastic football skills, determination and team work throughout the first half which left them leading at half time with a score of 3-1 to 0-7. Galtee Gaels came out very strong in the second half taking the lead during the second half and holding onto it with the match ending in their favour with a full time score Mungret 3-5, Galtee Gaels 2-12. Congratulations to Galtee Gaels and thanks for a great match. Hard luck to our girls on the day, they did themselves and their club very proud building a great team over the last few months. Many thanks to Liz Morgan and Mary Murphy for managing the team, John Horgan, Dave Foley, Peter O’ Donovan and Liam O’ Connell for training the girls, to Siobhán Horgan and Cath Murphy for all their hard work behind the scenes and on the sideline and to our physio Dara Mahon. Many thanks to the referee and to Cappamore GAA club. A huge thanks to everyone who travelled to support the girls, it’s very much appreciated. The girls will be out again in August competing in the Junior B championship.

U-16 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-8 Cappagh Rathkeale 4-10
There was a trip out to Cappagh on Monday 22 July 2024 for our Division 3 U-16 Footballers. This team is mainly fielded by our 15 year olds so they get game time. While the result of this match was not ours on the night it did have a good standard of team work and direct passing involved throughout for our players, they were just up against a slightly older team. They next play St. Patricks at home in two weeks.

U-15 Hurling:
Our U-15 Hurlers played a challenge match last night, after the game there was a small presentation made to one of the players who had to put up with a lot over the last few years being a loyal Clare supporter.
Jack Finucane of Sheils Motor Group met with Clare hurler Tony Kelly and managed to get a sliotar signed for Luke White who was delighted with his presentation.
Thank you to Jack and congratulations to Tony Kelly and the Clare team on their win.
U-15 Camogie:
Well done to our U15s who won the A Plate final on Friday in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale! They put on a great display against Ballybrown Camogie Club in what was a very physical game. The girls showed great class and determination to the end and were delighted to come away with the win.
Thanks as always to Limerick Camogie Development & Limerick Camogie for a really well organised league and also to #MSPCamogie management who are very proud of this crew of gals!

Junior B Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 5-16 Claughaun 0-4
On Wednesday 24 July 2024 our City Junior B Footballers welcomed Claughaun to the Mungret senior pitch where they were very dominant throughout. This was the second last game for this team as they play Kildimo/Pallaskenry this Wednesday in the last round as they currently sit in second place.
Premier Minor Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-16 Doon 1-13
On Wednesday 24 July 2024 in Doon our Premier Minor Hurlers played the hosts. The game started with each side matching each point for most of the first half but with two minutes left in the game Doon struck with a point and a goal to go ahead by the break.
Back out and Mungret St. Pauls and Doon kept the score board going with Doon holding the lead throughout the whole second half until one of the last pucks of the ball where Mungret St. Pauls leveled the game. This draw left Mungret St. Pauls in third place with one last game to play against Ahane next week where a strong win will be needed.
U-14 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-4 Dromin/Athlacca/Banogue 0-7
Our Division 3 U-14 Football team were in Banogue on Thursday 25 July 2024 when they met Dromin/Athlacca/Banogue who gave our players a great game. It was not too high a scoring game but there was some great team work. Only one point separated the two sides at half time but it was the home team that had the setter second half. There is only one more game to play in this group with Mungret St. Pauls in third place they have Galbally who sit in second place left to play in two weeks time.
