Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Limerick Players:
The U14 National Games Programme continued this weekend with blitzes hosted across 8 counties. #MSPCamogie club girls: Eilis O’Neill, Rosa Harrington & Saoirse Browne headed to Clare with their Limerick Camogie team mates and Management to don their county jerseys and battle it out with their opponents. Both the Limerick Green and White teams were highly competitive and made it to their respective finals where they put up a great battle indeed against Galway & Kilkenny! Well done girls!
Well done to the 4 Mungret Ladies who wore the green jersey last weekend. First up were Caoimhe Hennessy, Molly O Mahony and Cáit Murphy in the U16 All Ireland Football Final against Antrim in Kinnegad last Saturday. Unfortunately for Limerick it was the Saffrons who came away with the spoils. Final score Antrim 1.12 Limerick 1.07. Well done also to Liz Morgan (Mentor) who was with this fantastic team. On Sunday Limerick junior team were in the TG4 Junior All Ireland semi final against Fermanagh, Carol Bateman was the clubs sole representative here, and despite Limericks best efforts it was Fermanagh who booked their spot in the final. Fermanagh 2.12 Limerick 2.10. As a club we are very proud of these ladies who represented Mungret very well all season.

Ladies Football:
On Wednesday last the Intermediate Ladies Footballers took on their Oola counterparts in which was a place off for a place in the Division 1 Senior League Final. It was also the last round of the league. The game started at a ferocious pace with Mungret putting two early points on the board. This was followed by Oola gaining a foothold in the game by a brace of points followed by a well taken goal. Points were traded until Oola were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched. Mungret were under pressure and followed with points and then a penalty of their own. At halftime Oola were a single point ahead. The second half was as well contested as the first with both teams moving at pace and taking their scores. Mungret started to apply the pressure and with 6 minutes to go were two points down. Mungret got a point back and then won the subsequent kick out and were awarded a free from a difficult angle but the equaliser was achieved. From the following kickout Mungret turned over Oola possession and a high ball bounced in Oola area which was dispatched for the winning goal. Mungret LGFA 2-12 Oola LGFA 2-9. Mungret Ladies now take on St Ailbes in Cappamore on 22nd July at 7pm in Senior League Final. Please come and Support the Ladies.

U-16 Hurling:
It was a busy night on Monday 15 July 2024 when both our U-16 hurlers took to the pitch for the second round of the championship. Our Division 1 hurlers were in Caherdavin where they played hosts Na Piarsaigh. This was a match that did not fail to produce. Na Piarsaigh had the better start going four points up to Mungret St. Pauls one point but this all changed once Mungret St. Pauls settled into the game and went 2-6 up in ten minutes. Na Piarsaigh were on the back foot and replied with four points with Mungret St. Pauls getting the last point before the break 2-8 to 0-8.
Na Piarsaigh reopened the game with a point but the second half was Mungret St. Pauls game as they churned out some very impressive scores with Na Piarsaigh getting points intermittently with their only goal of the game from a rebounded save near the dying minutes of the game. This win for Mungret St. Pauls is what they needed after the lost to Monaleen in the opening round. With four teams on two points Mungret St. Pauls sits at the top of the group table as they prepare for the next game against Ballybrown in two weeks.
Mungret St. Pauls 3-18 Na Piarsaigh 1-12
The Division 3 hurling team compiled mostly with our U-14 players with a few 15 year olds took on a strong Caherline team in our Senior Pitch. This team had a great win in their opening round against Southside Gaels which gave them a great start. Mungret St. Pauls came off the pitch in second place after putting in a battle of a game. They next play South Liberties Fedamore in two weeks time.

U-14 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-9 South Liberties 3-3
On Monday 15 July 2024 our Division 3 hurlers played South Liberties in Crescent Comprehensive pitch where they really put it up to the near neighbours. Majority of the scores all came in the first half with Mungret St. Pauls with the lead by the half time whistle 3-7 to 3-2. The second half only saw three points scored but there was a lot of team work throughout, a great result for our second team. This win is their fourth in five games and sees them in third place on the group table with the next match on Thursday against Crecora Manister.

U13 Camogie:
It was a busy week of semi finals last week for our U13 panel!
Our 13 A team led by Captain Ava Reaboi played a humdinger of a game v neighbours Ballybrown at home, with some great support from the sidelines!
Both team battled hard and luckily the MSPCamogie girls came away with a 1 point win! Its onto the county finals day this Saturday for them now when they play Newcastlewest in Cappamore in the A Cup Final, throw in at 5pm. We would love to see you come out and support!
Our 13 B team travelled to Claughaun last Thursday night to take on Treaty Gaels in a tough semi battle led by Captain Caoimhe Cussen!
The girls kept their heads up against a strong opponent who unfortunately got the better of them in the end, but the girls were delighted to see that their efforts throughout the league has earned them a place in the Plate Final this Saturday in Cappamore – throw in 4.00pm when they take on Knockaderry/Ballyagran. All support welcome!!!
The development both teams have gotten from this league has been worth its weight in gold. Well done to Limerick Camogie for organising and of course our amazing coaches for supporting the girls along the way!

Ladies Football:
Many thanks to Cobi Sports who generously donated a set of jerseys recently. These will look really well on the Junior side who will contest the Division 4 League Final this weekend. Mungret v GalteeGaels. Time and venue to be confirmed
Well done to the 12 U13 girls who wore the green jersey and played against Clare recently. This is just fantastic to see, that the work of the underage coaches in this club is coming to the fore.

Premier Minor Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-6 Kildimo Pallaskenry 0-9
On Wednesday 17 July 2024 in Pallaskenry our Premier Minor Footballer played the hosts Kildimo Pallaskenry in the third round of the Championship games. Kildimo Pallaskenry had a great start as they went three points up before Mungret St. Pauls settled into the game which did not take them long and it was then that they showed their dominance putting some lovely points on the board with the first goal, by the break Mungret St. Pauls had the lead 1-4 to 0-3.
The second half saw Kildimo Pallskenry come back into the game from the restart when they leveled the game going into the final quarter of the match. Mungret St. Pauls response was to send the ball into the back of the net again with an addition of three points, Kildimo Pallaskenry only had one more point in them with it coming down to the final minutes the defence was under a lot of pressure but worked hard to deflect any attempts. This win sees Mungret St. Pauls at the top of the group with two wins and a loss, the next match is Wednesday 31 July at home to Fr. Caseys.

U-14 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 6-7 Crecora Manister 0-6
On Thursday 18 July 2024 in Crecora our second U-14 hurling team took on Crecora Manister where they got to show their skills and team work as they proved too strong for Crecora Manister. This team are doing very well in their group after six games they are in second place on the group table with one more game to play against Dromcollogher Broadford who they share points with. This match will be played in Mungret on the 15 August, all support for this match would be appreciated.
