Mungret St. Pauls 1-18 Kildimo Pallaskenry 2-8
This was the forth match in the Championship on Monday 5 August 2019 and the Limerick Motor centre sponsored Intermediate Football team had held a clean sheet so far, winning 3 games and drawing one. With a win in this game it would secure a place in the semi finals. The last time these two team met was on the same pitch in Clarina in June with Mungret St. Pauls scraping the win with a goal.
Kildimo Pallaskenry were first up to score while Mungret St. Pauls worked their way up the slope and kicked two points without reply before Kildimo Pallaskenry raised the first green flag of the game by the ball coming from a free taken low, our goalie jumped and got both hands to the ball but on the return to his feet fell back into the goal. This was still early in the game and Mungret St. Pauls went and pointed the next ball leaving just a point between the teams. Kildimo Pallaskenry scored the next point but an excellent free from Mungret St. Pauls kept them in the game. The ball was kicked by Mungret St.Pauls toward the goal but it looked like it was going over the line, was kept in by a Mungret St. Pauls hand, landed at another Mungret St. Pauls player and sent to the back of the net to boost Mungret St. Pauls into a 2 point lead which was not released. The next 10 minutes was Mungret St. Pauls game as they held possession most of the time and secured another 4 points. A penalty was awarded to Mungret St. Pauls but it did not go our way and Kildimo Pallaskenry got back into the game with their first point in 18 minutes following it up with another 2 before the break. Mungret St. Pauls leading at half time 1-8 to 1-5.
After a flat first half from Kildimo Pallaskenry, Mungret St. Pauls had to prepare for a stronger opposition in the second half which they got. Mungret St. Pauls started the second half better as we kicked the first two scores. Kildimo Pallaskenry needed to narrow the gap and they did when a placed ball was sent toward the goal and punched passed our goalie, this brought Kildimo Pallaskenry back to 2 points behind. Both sides shared the next 6 points which is where Kildimo Pallaskenry ended their scores as they tried bout were denied any more chances on goals. Mungret St. Pauls closed off the game in style as they pointed another 5 points and left the field with a 7 point lead.

On a very sunny day in Clarina on Wednesday 7 August the Junior A hurlers played Crecora Manister, these two sides had already met earlier in the year in the league with Crecora Manister taking the win. Mungret St. Pauls kept Crecora Manister to one point for the first half but a few slip ups in the second half from Mungret St. Pauls had Crecora Manister punish us with scores but Mungret St. Pauls were lucky to pull away with a win.
There were a lot of wides for Mungret St. Pauls in the first 10 minutes of the game where only two points were scored, one for each team. It was Mungret St. Pauls game for the rest of the half notching up a further 8 points unanswered from Crecora Maister. In the first 9 points there was some lovely scores with one coming from a sideline cut. There was great work rate all over the pitch with the Mungret St. Pauls forwards and midfield seeing most of the play.
With a healthy 8 point lead Mungret St. Pauls had to remember to keep theirs heads in the game and to continue to stay scoring, Crecora Manister and Mungret St. Pauls opening 6 points. Crecora Manister then narrowed the gap to 3 points by 2 points and a lucky goal. Mungret St. Pauls put the pressure on and pointed the next 3 balls. The last 4 scores were shared to each side again with Mungret St. Pauls getting a much needed win. There is one more game left in the group against Monaleen with us sitting in forth place but with the same 4 wins and 2 losses as the 2 teams before us- Crecora Manister and Old Christians. Mungret St. Pauls only had one failed chance but there was a great goal save from our goalie. There were 2 quick points from play from both sides followed with a superb point from a sideline cut for us, this brought us to one point behind Kildimo Pallaskenry. This did not last long as a free for Kildimo Pallaskenry was sent toward the right of the goal, kept in by a Kildimo Pallaskenry hurley and onto another Kildimo Pallaskenry player who knocked it into the back of the Mungret St. Pauls net. 2 further frees pointed for Mungret St. Pauls soften the lead for Kildimo Pallaskenry, the next puck out was caught by Mungret St. Pauls and returned over the bar bringing Mungret St. Pauls to a point behind.
