MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
COVID-19: We remain in Level 5 restrictions and must comply wholeheartedly with the restrictions in spirit and in practice. We thank everyone for their compliance in this regard. Monaleen CV-19 outreach team have made a number of runs to Centra Monaleen & SuperValu Castletroy. We’re happy to support our community in these challenging times. Contact Alan at 087 7766022 or Caroline at 087 6448807.
LOTTO: Our lotto collectors have been doing mighty work in the past few weeks to contact our lotto members and “book” them in for 2021. This has presented challenges as we are limited by Level 5 Covid restrictions. As a result, numbers in the lotto will likely be down on previous years, unfortunately at a time when we are commencing the development of our pitch on Peafield Road. We would be extremely grateful therefore if all club members who have not already joined would do so, and also reach out to their friends and family and let them know about our club lotto. At only €8.34 per month standing order or €100 per year once off payment, it would help us hugely in our endeavours to provide top class facilities for our Members. Please contact any of the following: your child’s head coach, James Johnson, Keenan Mullane, Audrey Rushitzko, Caroline O’Kane, or directly to any member of Monaleen GAA committee.
HEALTHY CLUB: Nutrition & Healthy Eating: Dr. Sharon Madigan, Head of Performance Nutrition with the Sport Ireland Institute, did an interview with GAA.ie on the importance of proper nutrition advice to protect physical and mental health of our players. GAA MUSEUM VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB: While it’s not possible to visit the GAA Museum or its Library & Archives in person right now, you can still learn more about Gaelic Games and the history of the Association by becoming a member of their new virtual GAA Museum Book Club. Each month the GAA Museum team will choose a well-known GAA book to read and review. At the end of the month, the museum will host a free online interview with the author, in which members can submit questions and comments. The ambition of the book club is to review some of the great GAA books and to give us all a much-needed sporting boost as we stay at home. You can find out more and how to get involved via the following link: https://crokepark.ie/bookclub
IRISH LIFE STEPS CHALLENGE: Well done to everyone who is taking part and has been involved with achieving an amazing 2.3million steps to date. Any club that registers on the App and whose team records at least 4,000km – the equivalent of walking around the coast of Ireland – is in with a chance to win. The competition will run until March 3rd: GAA & Irish Life’s MyLife App ‘Healthy Club Steps Challenge’ a big hit.
GAA ‘BE READY TO PLAY’: The Gaelic Games family launched ‘Be Ready to Play’, a Coaching and Sport Science programme in association with UPMC, official healthcare partner of the GAA and GPA, that will be delivered via webinars, website programmes, instructional videos and live online sessions. The programme is a holistic coaching and performance plan that will be of great benefit to all club coaches and players, male, female, adult, and youth alike. It will help them return to training post Covid in a way that will hopefully increase enjoyment, performance, and participation, while simultaneously reducing the risk of injury.
