MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

LIMERICK HURLING SQUAD: Congratulations to Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Jamie Power who have been included in the Limerick senior hurling panel for the 2019 championship. Limerick will begin their All-Ireland title defence on Sunday May 19 against Cork in the Munster senior hurling championship in the Gaelic Grounds.

Monaleen junior football squad – City champions

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Congratulations to the Monaleen junior football team which defeated Crecora 4-15 to 0-10 to win the city championship title.

BAG PACKING: On May 9, 10 and 11, a bag packing fundraiser in aid of Monaleen GAA Club will take place at Dunnes Stores in the Parkway Shopping Centre. This is a great opportunity for the club to raise money towards the ongoing upkeep and improvement of the pitches in both the Clubhouse and Peafield through the sanding program, pitch lining and general maintenance. We are looking for volunteers (players and parents) from the senior club, camogie, juvenile and ladies football units to make sure this is a huge success. If you would like to volunteer, for an hour or two on any day, please contact either Caroline O’Kane, James Johnson, Audrey Ruschitzko or John Noonan.

BRICK IN THE WALL: Monaleen GAA club is relaunching the hugely successful “Brick in the Wall” campaign. Bricks are available for €100. Orders are being taken, with payment to be made before the brick is created. The Club is also selling advertising signage within the Clubhouse Field Grounds, at a cost of €300 per year. The funds raised go towards tge ongoing costs of maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, as well as helping us to plan for the future in order to deliver a first class facility for our ever growing young membership. PARTY NIGHT: Monaleen GAA Club Party Night, coaches appreciation night takes place on Friday, May 24 at the clubhouse at 7.30pm. Night includes disco with DJ Dave, raffle and spot prizes, finger food and bar – fun for all the family. There will be a €2 charge per adult (kids free) on the door, which will get you a raffle ticket also, this money will be put back into relevant Juvenile teams.) Kids disco In the hall and bar open. Donation of sambos, crisps, etc on the night would be greatly appreciated. LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, May 2, with the jackpot standing at €10,000. The numbers drawn were 18, 25, 26 and 32. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were A. McCay Coveney, Woodhaven; O. McNamara, Carrigeen; L. Smalle, Roskeen; C. Reddan @ Hurlers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

SEWING CAMPS: Summer Sewing Camps will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse this year, with Camp 1 running from July 3 to 5 and Camp 2 taking place between August 14-16. Camps run between 10am and 1pm each day. Contact Louise on 086-8147345 for more details.

U14 HURLING: Congratulations to our U14 hurlers who defeated Na Piarsaigh 2-10 to 0-6 in the Jack Lyons Memorial Cup Under 14 Hurling championship last week. Well done to players and coaches. The U14 hurlers will host Doon in their next outing in the championship on Wednesday, May 15 at 7pm in Monaleen GAA pitch.

LIMERICK SQUAD: Congratulations and best wishes to the Monaleen trio of Ben Murnane, Mark Field and Darragh Langan who are members of the Limerick U14 hurling squad this year.

CONGRATULATIONS: All at Monaleen GAA Club would like to congratulate Paul Kinnerk and his new wife Maggie Maloney on their recent wedding celebrations.

CAMOGIE: It was a busy week with three semi-finals played. First up on Thursday the U16s took on Galbally in the U16A semi in Kilteely. Monaleen started well and playing with the hill built up a huge half time lead 4-10 to 0-3. Continuing on from their great form in previous games the girls took some great scores in this half and really the game was over as a contest at half time. The second half was more competitive but the final score of Monaleen 4-12 to Galbally 1-8 means our girls are through to the final for the second year in a row and on track to defend the title. Crecora are our opponents in the final on Thursday in Boher at 7pm. JUNIORS: On Sunday morning in Boher our 12 aside Junior team won their semi-final putting up a big score v Kilmallock. Emily O’Brien with 12 points had a great game but this was a real team performance with all the Monaleen girls playing at a high level. Final score Monaleen 3-17 Kilmallock 0-3. Our final opponents will be Kileedy with the date and time to be confirmed. JUNIOR A: Later on Sunday in South Liberties our Junior A team were beaten by Galbally and are out of the competition. Galbally were much the better team in the first half as Monaleen struggled to get going. 7 points down at half time but the second half performance had more of the fight and skill that the team have showed in the matches to date. Goals from Caoimhe Lyons and Ruth Heavey brought the gap down to 1 point but time ran out to leave a final score of Monaleen 2-7 to Galbally 1-11. U14 LEAGUE: Our U14 girls played away to Cappamore on Tuesday evening. A tight early first half saw Monaleen behind by 1 point 15 mins in, however Monaleen pulled away and went in 3-01 to 1-03 ahead at half time. A strong second half saw Monaleen come away eventual winners on a scoreline of 6-03 to 3-03

U12 BLITZ: Our 2007 team played away to Ahane, Knockaderry and Cappamore in a well hosted blitz on Saturday morning. Monaleen came away with 3 wins.

2008 TEAM: Our 2008 team played away to Na Piarsaigh, Mungret, Patrickswell, Murroe Boher and sixmilebridge, a lot of good Camogie played. This young team are improving with every match.

U7S & U-9s: U7 & U9 team travelled to Murroe for challenge match on Thursday evening, over 20 girls travelled to play and had a very enjoyable evening.

COMMISERATIONS: Commiserations to Caitlin Bonfil and Limerick teammates who lost to Laois in All Ireland B minor final replay at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh.

FIXTURES: Upcoming fixtures this week. Junior 12-a-side League final TBC. U16 A league final V Crecora, throw in 7pm Boher. U14 League match at home to Granagh Ballingarry Tuesday throw in at 7pm.
