SENIOR FOOTBALLERS: Commiserations to the Monaleen senior footballers and management team on their county quarter-final defeat to Ballylanders in Bruff on Saturday last.
COVID-19: Due to the recent increase in COVID 19 cases around the country, Monaleen GAA Club would like to remind players and parents of the process involved in dealing with a suspected or confirmed case. Anyone who develops symptoms should self-isolate and contact their GP for advice.
They should not attend any GAA activities while they await the results of the test. If the test is negative, no further action is required. The player in question can return to GAA activity once symptom free for 48 hours. If the test is positive, then public health officials will do an assessment and identify close and casual contact. Close contacts must not attend any GAA activity until cleared to do so by medical professionals. Casual contacts should monitor symptoms closely and are free to attend GAA activity, unless symptomatic. It is very important that all team personnel complete the GAA health questionnaire and adhere to all guidelines, including a home temperature check, before coming to training or matches.
We would ask all members to be vigilant of symptoms and, if they do develop, to self-isolate and seek medical advice. If anyone has any questions please contact the club’s Covid Officer, Daniel Power at 085 8389170. We thank you all for your co-operation in these challenging times.

CAMOGIE:
JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP: Huge congratulations to our Junior A team who won their County Semi Final on Sunday 20th at home to Adare. At the end of a competitive first half Adare led 6 points to 5. The first period of the second half was the key period with 2 Monaleen goals resulting in a 5 point lead at the water break. Adare went for goals in the final period and it took some great defending to keep them at bay. The final score of Monaleen 3-11 to Adare 0-10 means our girls play Galbally in the final on October 4. Panel: Caitlin Bonfil; Saoirse Lane; Grainne Fullen; Niamh Doyle; Ruth Heavey: Laura Hession; Clodagh Power; Megan O’ Mara; Ellen Regan Magner; Ella Hession; Caoimhe Lyons; Lucy D’Arcy; Aoife Doyle; Aine Doyle; Amy Burke; Aoife Sheehan; Aoife Nelligan; Emily O’ Halloran; Niamh Moloney; Eimar Morgan; Grace Clohessy; Mia O Halloran; Amy Kavanagh; Avril Kinnerk; Keelin Corcoran; Aoife D’Arcy.
U16A CHAMPIONSHIP: Well done to Monaleen U16 on a good win away to Blackrock Effin on Thursday evening. They now have home advantage on Thursday 24th where they meet Na Piarsiagh in County Semi Final. A strong start from Blackrock Effin saw them go into an early 1-04 to 0-02 lead at the first water break. However Monaleen took command after the first water break and went into half time with a 3-07 to 1-06 lead. A very strong second half with goals from Amy Burke and Aoife Sheehan put this game beyond the reach of Blackrock Effin. Final score Monaleen 5-12 Blackrock Effin 2-09.
U14A MACKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: Commiserations to our U14A team who lost the County U14 Final in tough circumstances by 1 point against a strong Patrickswell side in a tightly contested final on Saturday 19th. A tight first period saw only 2 points in it at the water break, a further point from Patrickswell in the first half saw Monaleen go in 3 behind at half time. Two quick scores from Monaleen brought it back to a point between the sides. Patrickswell then took back a 3 point lead but Monaleen battled hard to bring the game level with 2 minutes to go, however a last minute point from Patrickswell saw them win out the game. This team have shown great skill, determination and effort throughout this campaign, we are very proud of how they represented our club. There is a very bright future for this team. Panel: Faye Coffey, Caoimhe Mcinerney, Grace Field, Ella O’Halloran, Merveille O’Brien, Ciara Buckley, Siobhan Doran, Bella Collins, Saoirse Fallon, Niamh Twomey, Aoife O’Brien, Alice Sheedy, Sarah Burke, Laurie Murnane, Ellie Madden, Leah Moriarty, Dani O’Callaghan, Katie O’Gorman, Kate O’Connor, Rachel Donohue, Olivia Foley.
U14 TREATY CHAMPIONSHIP: On Tuesday 15th September, Monaleen U13 girls played their semi-final in the U14 camogie championship. Winning their 4 group matches and topping the Treaty group had earned them a well-deserved home semi-final. Playing against Adare, one of Limericks strongest U14 teams, this was always going to be a tough battle but the girls and their coaches were determined to go out and play their very best and give it everything. Monaleen started strongly with points from Grace and Rebecca and a goal from Robyn giving them a 4-point lead at the first water break. Adare came into the match at this stage and a few lovely scores saw them leading 1-5 to 1-3 at half time. The second half belonged to Adare who showed their superiority in physicality and age and with some beautiful skill and scores, they ran out easy winners in the end. A well-deserved victory for Adare but the young Monaleen girls can hold their heads high and will only learn from this as they move forward to next year. Overall, this team has improved so much since U12s last year and the future is definitely bright. Panel: Erika McCarthy, Carrie McCormack (j capt), Emma O’Leary, Andrea Costello, Kate Maloney, Emma McGrath, Lily Reid, Millie Reen, Grace Hegarty, Rachel Widger (j captain), Robyn d’Arcy, Lucy Power, Ella Rock, Laoise Noonan, Rebecca Bromell, Emily O Riordan, Emily Nestor, Molly Morrissey, Amalija Karpova, Aoife Real Dawson, Orlaith Purcell, Isabelle Bromell, Louise Burke, Aoibhin McMahon.
U12 CHALLENGE: Monaleen and Na Piarsiagh U12 camogie’s teams met on sunny evening on Saturday at Monaleen. It was an encounter that was tense and tight throughout, with some great displays of camogie from both teams. Na Piarsiagh edged it at the end, in a very entertaining and sporting match which was referred excellently by Mike Flannery.
