MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
SENIOR HURLERS: The Monaleen senior hurling team play the second game of their county hurling championship Group 2 campaign this Saturday evening when facing Garryspillane on Saturday evening in Caherconlish at 6pm. The team got their championship off to a winning start when edging past local rivals Ahane in Claughaun on Friday night. Best of luck to the players and management team this weekend. All support greatly appreciated.
JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING: Best of luck to our Junior A hurlers who take on Na Piarsaigh in the City Junior A Hurling League at Caherdavin on Easter Sunday at 7pm.
LIMERICK MINOR FOOTBALLERS: Best of luck to Rian McBrearty, of Monaleen, who is a member of the Limerick minor football squad which takes on Waterford in the Munster championship in Fraher Field, Dungarvan on this Wednesday night, April 17 at 7pm.

FÉILE Na nGAEL: Our U14 hurling team are in Féile na nGael Division 1 semi-final action on Easter Sunday when facing Doon in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale at 10.30am. Should we come through that game, we would be involved in the final at 12noon. Monaleen reached the semi-finals with wins over Na Piarsaigh, 1-9 to 0-5, and Granagh-Ballingarry 2-10 to 1-6. SCÓR: Monaleen quiz team finished in 3rd place at the All-Ireland Scor final in Castlebar, Co Mayo for the second year in a row following their 1st place in 2017. The team members were Michael O’Sullivan, Frank Madden, Gerard Barry and Liam de Burca.
LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, April 11 with the jackpot standing at €9,000. The numbers drawn were 5, 11, 24 and 32. Winners of €50 lucky dips were S. Keogh, Woodhaven; S. Slattery, @T. Gavin; F/O McCoy, Woodhaven; R O’Donnell, Riverbank. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
CAMOGIE: On Thursday evening our U16s played Newcastle West at home. These are always tough encounters as both teams would be considered as contenders to win the competition. On the night the Monaleen girls proved to be too strong for our opponents. The final score of 2-25 to 0-11 was a reflection of the fantastic score taking on the night. The performance of Emily O Brien from frees and general play was a real highlight. JUNIOR A: On Sunday our Junior A team travelled to Galbally. The conditions did not suit our girls as the pitch was heavy and the weather was cold and wet. Despite this, Monaleen started well and got an early lead, 3 points to 1 after 10 minutes. It was a tough game with every ball contested and scores hard to come by but Monaleen maintained and extended the lead and finished winners 2-11 to 1-8. JUNIOR 12-A-SIDE: On Sunday afternoon our Junior 12 aside team played Kileedy on the clubhouse pitch. A slow start from our inexperienced team playing into a strong wind and Monaleen trailed 2-7 to 0-1 at half time. Monaleen took some nice in the second half and the game was in the balance until 2 late goals from Kileedy sealed the win for them. Final score Monaleen 1-6 Kileedy 4-9. This was the first occasion that the club played 2 Junior matches on the same day and a big thanks to everyone involved for their efforts.
CHALLENGE GAMES: There were also a number of challenge matches last week with U7 & U9 playing away to Ahane. U8 & U10 played away to Mungret. Our U12 team hosted Clonara Camogie on Tuesday. Great to see so many of our underage girls playing and winning their matches.
UPCOMING FIXTURES: U14 girls play away to Kileedy in League on Tuesday evening, throw in at 7pm. U16 play away to Granagh/Ballingarry on Thursday evening, throw in at 6:30pm. Junior 12 aside League, Monaleen are away to Ahane on 21st April, throw in at 2pm.
WELL DONE: Well done to Monaleen Camogie players who represented our club with Limerick Camogie at the weekend, Amie O’Brien, Abi Houlihan and Laura Southern at U14 and Amy Burke, Aoife Sheehan, Emily O’Halloran and Saoirse Fitzgerald at U15.
