JUNIORS: In Doon on Sunday our Junior team played the Championship semi-final v Ballybrown. The girls got a great start with a couple of goals from Caoimhe Lyons giving Monaleen a 6-point lead midway through the first half. Both teams had their periods of dominance and in the final minutes of the first half Ballybrown scored two goals to lead by a point at the break. In tough winter conditions the second half was very tight with Monaleen trailing by 4 with 10 minutes to play. A goal was needed and despite the best efforts of the girls it wouldn’t come. A couple of late points was not enough on the day and Ballybrown progressed to the final with the final score 3-11 to 3-9. This group of young players have had a great season, topping the 8 team group in this championship and losing the league semi by 1 point earlier in the year. Success is not far away to follow up on the fantastic underage success that the group have had. They have lifted the profile of the club this year, and shown great example to our younger players with their commitment and skill.
Panel: Aisling Kennedy; Saorise Lane; Niamh Doyle; Emma Donohoe; Caitlin Bonfil; Ellen Regan Magner; Shannon Power; Shalini Kujur; Lucy D’Arcy; Aoife Doyle; Aine Doyle; Fanie Carmody; Ruth Heavy; Caoimhe Lyons; Cathy O’Toole; Ella Hession; Niamh Moloney; Eimar Morgan; Mia O’Halloran; Amy Kavanagh; Aoife D’Arcy, Clodagh Power.

MINORS: Later in the day, our Minor panel including 11 members of the Junior panel travelled to Knocklong to compete in the Minor A shield semi final v Granagh Ballingarry. The conditions in Knocklong for the 6.30pm throw in were terrible with a gale blowing and heavy cold rain falling. Playing against the wind in the first half, the girls were under constant pressure from a strong Granagh team but held out to lead by 4pts to 2pts at half time. The second half was one sided with Monaleen dominating to win by 2-8 to 1-3. Credit to the 22 players who travelled out and put in a great performance in these circumstances. Next up is the final next Sunday when Monaleen will hope to successfully defend the title the girls won last year. Time and venue to be confirmed.
