MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

JUNIOR A FOOTBALL: Pride of place this week goes to our junior A footballers who claimed the county Junior A football title for the first time since 1969 with a deserved 2-6 to 0-6 victory over Croom at a wet Kilmallock on Saturday. Monaleen will now field a senior and intermediate team for 2020 – the only club to have a side in the top two grades of Limerick football. Monaleen Junior A footballers end the year as City League, County League and County Championship winners. Well done to the players and management team.

AGM: The Monaleen GAA club AGM will take place on Monday, December 2 at 8pm. Motions and nominations should be emailed to the Secretary at secretary.monaleen.limerick@gaa.ie before 9pm on November 25.

U21 FOOTBALL: Monaleen are due to face Rathkeale in a County Premier U21 Football Championship Group 2Round 3 fixture this Saturday, November 9 in Adare at 2pm. Best of luck to the players and management team.

HEALTHY CLUB COMMITTEE: Monaleen GAA club is establishing a Healthy Club Committee. Julie Golden and Nicola Donohue are the Club’s Healthy Officers. Last year’s very successful ‘Lights Up 5k Walks’ were organised under the Healthy Club initiative. The ladies have lots more exciting ideas and we are looking for two or three volunteers to help out with organising events designed to improve the overall wellbeing of our club members in every aspect of life, including nutritional health and mental health. If you would be interested in helping out please contact Caroline O’Kane, James Johnson, Audrey Ruschitzko, John Noonan, or directly to Julie or Nicola. This is a very worthwhile group and an area the club would love to develop for all of our members and their families.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on October 31, with the jackpot standing at €17,800. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 30 and 33. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were D. McGann, Hazelhall; E. Hyland, Kilbane; D. Brosnan, Woodhaven; J. Mullane @ Club. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

CALENDAR: Monaleen GAA club is preparing its 2020 calendar. We are offering local businesses a chance to sponsor a month in the calendar for €100. Your company logo and an advert will appear on the facing page of the month, which will give you a full month of advertising. If you are interested, please contact John Noonan, James Johnson, Audrey Ruschitzko, Tony Power or Caroline O’Kane. February, March, April, May and September have been sold already.

CAMOGIE

MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP: The minor championship away match v Galbally was played on Sunday at 1pm. The conditions were not good for camogie but Monaleen started well but despite dominating for periods in the first half it was disappointing that the teams were level at half time. Galbally got the all important goal early in the second half and went 5 points ahead. As ever Monaleen battled to the end and trailing by 3 points in the final minutes put the Galbally goal under threat but unfortunatelya goal didn’t come. Final score Galbally 1-9 to Monaleen 0-9. This result means that Monaleen have to win their final group game v Newcastle West to qualify for the cup semi-final. That game will be played on Thursday.

JUNIOR ‘A’ CHAMPIONSHIP: Junior A Championship semi-final is on Sunday November 10 v Ballybrown. Please check Twitter and Facebook for details later this week.

AGM: Monaleen Camogie AGM took place on Monday night in Monaleen Clubhouse.
