Timmy Cosgrave Perpetual Cup:
On Saturday, June 14th, the Clubhouse hosted the inaugural Timmy Cosgrave Perpetual Cup—an event dedicated to celebrating Timmy Cosgrave’s enduring legacy and unwavering support of the club. The occasion was a resounding success, made possible through the generous support of Timmy’s family, along with the invaluable contributions of organisers, volunteers, and stewards.
It was a spectacle of senior hurling. The first match saw Feakle from Clare take on Clarinbridge. The Galway side started well and had the lead going into the 2nd half but goals from Feakle brought the match to a 1 score game in the final minutes. Clarinbridge winning out in the end.
The second match saw Monaleen play Waterford side Mount Sion. A very competitive game left little between the teams at half time. A welcome return for Mark O Dwyer from injury in this game gave him the opportunity to cut over a sideline from halfway to close out the game for Monaleen.
The 3rd/4th playoff game was played in difficult conditions as the weather turned. Referee Fergal Horgan, as with all 4 games, did a great job letting the game go as the rain continued. Mount Sion ran out winners in the end.
In the Final, Monaleen faced Clarinbridge. The strong Galway side started the brighter and had the lead at HT. We rallied in the 2nd half with a goal early on but 2 saved penalties by the Clarinbridge keeper saw them run out deserved winners in the inaugural Timmy Cosgrave Cup. A huge thank you to Kyle Hayes for coming along to present the Cup.
