MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

MUNSTER FINAL WIN: Congratulations to Monaleen players Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Jamie Power who are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad which defeated Tipperary in Sunday’s Munster final at the Gaelic Grounds Monaleen’s Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach. Limerick are now through to the All-Ireland semi-finals on the weekend of July 27/28.
Well done also to Monaleen’s Ronan Lyons who is a member of the Limerick minor hurling squad which won the Munster minor hurling title with a smashing win over Clare also at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday. Ronan has been ultra consistent in defence for Limerick throughout their five-game unbeaten run to the Munster title Monaleen’s Neil Clifford is the Liaison Officer with the Limerick minor team. Limerick minors will also return to action in the All-Ireland semi-final on the weekend of July 27/28.

LIMERICK U-20 SQUAD: Monaleen players David Moloney and Conor Nicholas are members of the Limerick U20 hurling squad which played Cork in round one of the Munster U20 championship on Wednesday evening, July 3, in Pairc Uí Rinn.

SYMPATHY: All at Monaleen GAA Club would like to express sincere sympathy to the family of the late Harry Mulcahy, Rich Hill, Lisnagry and formerly Ballyclough, Castletroy, who passed away recently. The late Harry Mulcahy, who was a former player with Monaleen, was uncle of club coach Brian Madden and granduncle of club players Darragh, Caolan and Ellie. Following Requiem Mass at St Mary Magdalene Church, Monaleen, on Tuesday, burial took place in Kilmurry Cemetery. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on June 27, with the jackpot standing at €12,400. The numbers drawn were 11, 20, 29, and 34. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were P. Downes, Newtown; D. Kelly, Golflinks Rd; JU. Lynch, Hazelhall; L. Morrison, @ Leos. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

SEWING CAMPS: Summer Sewing Camps will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse this year, with Camp 1 running from July 3 to 5 and Camp 2 taking place between August 14-16. Camps run between 10am and 1pm each day. Contact Louise on 086-8147345 for more details.

COMMUNITY GAMES: Commiserations to our Community Games Gaelic football team which lost out narrowly after extra time to Ballincollig, of Cork, in their Munster quarter-final at UL North Campus on Saturday last.

CAMOGIE

SUMMER 7s BLITZ: On Saturday our Junior panel played in the first of the Munster 7’s blitz series. This was a great opportunity to play some competitive matches against teams from accress Munster. Monaleen played Holycross, Moneygall, Ballina and Tralee Parnells. Thanks to Stuart Reid and Na Phairsaigh GAA for organising the blitz.

U13: Monaleen (06) played away to Blackrock Effin in Effin on Tuesday, July 2. Monaleen (07) played an U13 match away to Bruff in Meanus Pitch also on Tuesday evening.

U12: Well done to Monaleen Reds who played exhibition game at half time in the Limerick Senior Camogie match on Saturday in Croagh. This was a great opportunity to showcase their camogie skills in front of a large crowd. Monaleen White played away to a strong Patrickswell last Thursday in their last league game with Patrickswell proving too strong for Monaleen.

U-10s: U10 hosted county cluster blitz in Monaleen Clubhouse on Saturday last. Teams from Ahane, Blackrock Effin and Bruff. Over 50 girls played in this blitz. A great morning of camogie was on display with some really good camogie and evenly matched games.

U8 & U7: Best of luck to our U8 & U7 who will travel to Kilmallock this Saturday to play in the last of the county cluster blitzes.

COUNTY CAMOGIE: Well done to Caoimhe Lyons and Megan O’Mara who were part of the Limerick Senior Camogie team that defeated Wexford in the All-Ireland championships Croagh on Saturday afternoon. A great win for Limerick sees them in a good position in the championship. Limerick play away to Galway next weekend.
Limerick Junior Camogie team represented by Aisling Kennedy Monaleen played in Croagh to Kerry. A tight first half saw Limerick go in 2 points ahead, but a strong second half saw Kerry run out 3 point winners.
Well Done to Niamh Moloney, Aoife Doyle, Aoife Nelligan and Ella Hession who were part of the Limerick U16 team that had a good away win to Kildare in Naas on Saturday.

U15: Well done to Amy Burke and Aoife Sheehan represented Monaleen Camogie on Limerick U15 blitz played in LIT on Saturday.
