MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP: Congrats to Monaleen players Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Jamie Power who are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad which defeated Clare in the Munster senior hurling championship at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday. Monaleen’s Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach. Limerick will face Tipperary in their final round robin fixture at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday next, 2pm. Best of luck also to Monaleen’s Ronan Lyons who is a member of the Limerick minor hurling squad who also face Tipperary in the Munster championship this Sunday in Semple Stadium on Sunday, 12noon. Ronan turned in an impressive display in defence for Limerick minors as they defeated Clare in their third group game on Sunday last at the Gaelic Grounds. Monaleen’s Neil Clifford is the Liaison Officer with the Limerick minor team.

EXAMS: Best of luck to all our young members who are continuing to sit their Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate exams this week.

BRICK IN THE WALL: Thanks to everyone who has purchased a brick in the wall or booked advertising signage in the clubhouse field. There are spaces left for ten bricks and one sign. If you would like to order either of these please contact Caroline O’Kane at 087 6448807. Thank you for your support.

FUN DAY: The club will host their annual family fun day on June 23. The day’s activity will begin with a Pitch and Putt competition from 11am to 1pm. Entry is €5 per player from the ages of eight to adult, with three players per team. There is an attractive first prize of 2 tickets to the 2019 Munster Hurling Final. The action moves to the clubhouse then from 2pm with fun for all age groups. Activities include a ‘Penalty King’ and ‘Hit the Crossbar’ competition, a puc fada, a cic fada, face painting, egg and spoon races, kids disco, magic show, three legged races and much more. Supermac’s will also be present providing food and drinks on the day. All welcome.

LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on June 6, with the jackpot standing at €11,800. The numbers drawn were 1, 5, 26 and 35. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were K. Holmes, @ Leos; L. Murray, Kylemore; S. Bullock, Caislean Nua; Mairead Doyle, Annacotty. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

SEWING CAMPS: Summer Sewing Camps will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse this year, with Camp 1 running from July 3 to 5 and Camp 2 taking place between August 14-16. Camps run between 10am and 1pm each day. Contact Louise on 086-8147345 for more details.

U13 COMPETITION: 12-a-side: Monaleen Reds played away to Knockaderry on Monday, June 3. This was a tough strong competitive match and a great learning experience for this young team playing up in U13 this year. Knockaderry had a strong first half which set them up for a 3-02 to 1-01 win. Monaleen Reds played away to Ballybrown on Tuesday night.

15-A-SIDE: Best of luck to Monaleen Whites who start their U13 competition this week, playing away to St Aibles on Monday 10 June, throw in at 7:30pm in Caherelly. This is followed closely by a home game to Newcastle west in Monaleen GAA on Wednesday evening, throw in at 6:45pm.

Monaleen U12 Reds camogie side which beat Ballyagran

U12 LEAGUE: Well done to Monaleen Reds who had a strong away win last week to Ballyagran. Monaleen dominated this game from start to finish. Great performance from our girls who came away with a 7-03 to 0-00 win. They now play away to Knockaderry this Thursday evening.
Well done to Monaleen Whites who played away to Treaty Gaels last Thursday evening, a draw match at half time and a strong second half from Treaty Gaels saw them run out eventual winners on a scoreline of 3-03 to 2-02. They now play at home (Peafield Road pitch) this Thursday to Crecora, throw in at 6:45pm.

U10 BLITZ: Good luck to our U10 team who play away in blitz this Saturday again in Ahane, throw in first match at 10am.

U8 BLITZ: Our U8 teams played away in blitz last Saturday morning, hosted by Mungret GAA, a great morning of camogie.
