LADIES FOOOTBALL:
The Groody Gaels Ladies junior football side
JUNIOR TEAM: The Groody Gaels ladies junior team played Adare in the semi-final of the county Junior championship in Ballybrown on Sunday last (14th November). In splendid sunshine, it wasn’t to be for a hard working Groody Gaels side as Adare ran out as winners at the final whistle and progress to the final.
Adare started the better of the two sides in a very competitive opening quarter and were the first on the scoreboard with two early goals before centre forward Laura Stocksborough opened the scoring for Groody Gaels with a well worked point from close range. Adare continued their early dominance before corner forward Aoife Neville ran through the heart of the Adare defence to pop over a super point.
Groody started the second half the better of two sides and corner forward Chloe Tobin converted some early Groody pressure into a well taken score from a close range free. Groody continued to battle hard all over the pitch and super performances from number 1 to 15 kept the pressure on Adare throughout the third quarter.
As the game drew to a close, Adare continued to add to their tally on the scoreboard before corner forward Aoife Neville added to her tally for the day to expertly shoot to the Adare net in the closing minutes.
While it wasn’t to be for Groody Gaels in the Junior Championship this season, this young team continue to develop with every game and the future is bright for ladies football at this level. A special thanks to all the players, parents, team management and supporters for all their efforts this season.
And a very special thanks to our generous sponsors Trade Electric Group for their support all throughout the 2021 season.
