LADIES FOOTBALL:
GROODY GAELS JUNIOR TEAM: The Groody Gaels ladies junior team played Adare in the final round of the county Junior championship in UL on Sunday last (7th November). In splendid sunshine, Groody Gaels gave a super team performance throughout the game to just miss out on the win in a low scoring contest.
In a very competitive opening quarter, both sides battled hard for possession before wing forward Aoife Neville opened the scoring for Groody with a super point from distance. Corner forward Saoirse Fitzgerald was next on the score sheet when she won possession just inside the Adare half and capped off a great run through the defence with a well taken point. The final score of the half was converted by corner forward Chloe Tobin who following a super team move, popped over one of her trademark points to leave the half time score Groody Gaels 0-3, Adare 0-5.
The second half was played in a similar fashion with a tremendous defensive display all over the pitch from a very well organised and disciplined Groody side. Scoring chances were difficult to find and the contest ebbed and flowed as both teams tried to get the upper hand. In the end, it was Adare who came out on top on a scoreline of Groody Gaels 0-3 Adare 0-8.
Next up is the county semi-final next Sunday, against the same opposition in Ballybrown at 11pm. Come out and show your support for this talented group of footballers in the biggest game of the season! Special thanks to our generous team sponsor Trade Electric Group for their continued support this season!
