LADIES FOOTBALL:

U6 & U8S: A fabulous turnout of 36 players for the blitz in Lisnagry on Wednesday night.  Well done to all the girls and the parents who helped out.
U10’S: 30 girls turned out for the blitz in Peafield – again a great evening of sport. Well done to all.
U12’S:  They played their championship match against Murroe Boher on Friday night and won with a great score of Monaleen 7-9 to 1-2 for Murroe. Last year Monaleen lost in the shield final to the same team, so great work being done by all to improve this year.  They now have 2 wins and 1 narrow defeat to St Brigids in the current campaign.
U14’S: The U14 girls team took on a fancied Fr Caseys side at a windy LIT on Sunday the 26th in the C Cup county final. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half the girls went behind early to a fast starting Fr Casey team but battled back and went ahead by the 15th minute 1-4 to 1-1. With both sides getting into their rhythm now and getting accustomed to the strong wind, the Monaleen girls finished the first half stronger with the scores deadlocked at 2-5 apiece. The girls were putting together some fantastic passages of play and were unfortunate not to ahead at the break. On the restart and with the wind at their backs the girls tore into the game and continued putting together some great passing moves that resulted in some well taken scores. The girls hit the front and were never behind again during the game despite the match ebbing and flowing and Fr Casey’s scoring some well taken goals, monaleen finished the game victorious with a fantastic scoreline of 5-12 to 5-5. To score 5-12 is no mean feat and was testament to the huge efforts the girls made during the game and were deserving winners. Squad: Olivia Foley, Ella O’ Halloran, Saoirse Fallon, Clodagh Lehane, Ciara Buckley, Bella Collins, Jenna Carragher, Clare Kiley, Laura Southern (Captain), Ellie Madden, Ciara Nolan, Emma O’Flaherty, Miriam Hodges, Faye Coffey, Sarah Gavin, Sarah Burke, Aoife O’Brien, Caoimhe McInerney, Grace Field, Zahra Hogan, Catriona Burke, Hazel Donaghy, Eva O’Dwyer, Liwia Dusynsja, Siobhan Doran.

JUNIOR TEAM: They had a great win on Monday night against Gerald Griffins.  Some excellent team work , movement and passing from the backs to the forwards with a resultant scoreline of 6-11 to 0-3.  It gave the management a chance to also make sure that all substitutes got a run out. The 6 U16’s that came out all played very well and acquitted themselves well.  They were no overawed by the opposition.  Next up is Galtee Gaels in June.
