MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP: Best of luck to Monaleen players Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Jamie Power who are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad which begin their All-Ireland title defence on Sunday next against Cork in the Munster senior hurling championship at the Gaelic Grounds, 4pm. Monaleen’s Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach. Best of luck also to Monaleen’s Ronan Lyons who is a member of the Limerick minor hurling squad who begin their Munster championship campaign against Cork at the Gaelic Grounds, also this Sunday, 2pm. Monaleen’s Neil Clifford is the Liaison Officer with the team.
CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to the Limerick senior football squad which defeated Tipperary in the Munster championship at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday evening. Monaleen goalkeeper Donal O’Sullivan is joint-captain with Limerick this year. Limerick will face Cork in the provincial semi-final at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday, June 1.
BAG PACKING: Last weekend a bag packing fundraiser in aid of Monaleen GAA Club took place at Dunnes Stores in the Parkway Shopping Centre. The event helped raise money towards the ongoing upkeep and improvement of the pitches in both the Clubhouse and Peafield through the sanding program, pitch lining and general maintenance. A huge thank you to all the coaches, parents and players from all units of the club for volunteering on the day.
BRICK IN THE WALL: Monaleen GAA club is relaunching the hugely successful “Brick in the Wall” campaign. Bricks are available for €100. The Club is also selling advertising signage within the Clubhouse Field Grounds, at a cost of €300 per year. The funds raised go towards tge ongoing costs of maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, as well as helping us to plan for the future in order to deliver a first class facility for our ever growing young membership. DEFIBRILATOR GROUP: Annacotty Community Defibrilator Group: This is a volunteer-led initiative set up to provide life saving assistance to our local community. We are now seeking volunteers in the community who would like to be part of a dedicated response team. Full training will be provided. Come along to our information session in Monaleen Clubhouse on Wednesday 15th May at 8.30 pm for more information.
LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, May 9, with the jackpot standing at €10,300. The numbers drawn were 10, 12, 33 and 35. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were T. Dolan, Beechwood; G. Moran, Kylemore; L O’Flynn, Glenside; M. Mitchell, Club. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
SEWING CAMPS: Summer Sewing Camps will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse this year, with Camp 1 running from July 3 to 5 and Camp 2 taking place between August 14-16. Camps run between 10am and 1pm each day. Contact Louise on 086-8147345 for more details.

U16: FOOTBALL: The Monaleen U16 footballers played out an exciting draw with Galbally, 3-9 to 4-6, in the County U16 Division 1 fixture played at Monaleen GAA Grounds on Monday night. The championship now takes a break due to the upcoming Junior Certificate with our next game due to take place on July 8. In the meanwhile, training will continue on Monday nights in Peafield Road.

U14 FOOTBALL: Our Under 14 Football Team had an excellent 2-4 to 0-6 away win against Galbally last night in the Under 14 Championship. Next up for the squad is another away trip to Oola in a couple of weeks’ time. Well done to the players and coaches.

COMMUNITY GAMES HURLING: Well done to the Monaleen Community Games hurling squad and coaches who have qualified for the county finals with wins over Ahane, Mungret and Kildimo/Pallaskenry in the round robin phase of the competition at Peafield Road on Sunday last. Those finals take place over the next couple of weeks.

SCHOOLS CAMOGIE: Well done to the 9 Monaleen players who were members of the City’s side’s Neville Cup schools camogie squad last week. The City side lost out to East Limerick on the day. It was a great honour for the club to have so many players involved in the game.

Monaleen U-16 camogie side, Limerick U16 A League champions for a second successive year with their coaches
COUNTY CHAMPIONS: County Champions: Monaleen successfully defended their county U16 League title in a competitive final played in Boher on Thursday last. Old rivals Crecora were our opponents and as in previous finals between these 2 teams the game was tough and competitive. Two goals in the first half gave Crecora a 7 point lead after 20 minutes, but Monaleen battled back to leave the sides level at half-time. However, Monaleen were the dominant side in the second half and when Grace Clohessy completed her hat-trick with 10 minutes left in the game, victory was assured. The game ended on a scoreline of Monaleen 4-10 Crecora 2-5 and Charley Drury accepted the cup on behalf of the victorious Monaleen team. Well done to all the players and everyone involved as this is a significant achievement for Monaleen Camogie Club. JUNIOR TEAM: On Saturday evening our 12-a-side Junior team met Kileedy in the Final. Going in as underdogs the very young Monaleen team struggled to get up to the pace and physicality of the game in the first half. Any mistake was punished with scores and at half time Kileedy were ahead by 9 points. The Monaleen players gave a much improved performance in the second half and dominated possession but could never get the lead below 5. Final score was Kileedy 4-5 to Monaleen 2-5. U14 LEAGUE: Our U14 team hosted Granagh Ballingarry in the final round of the League on Tuesday, May 7. Monaleen took control from the very start of this game going in 4-02 to 0-01 at half time. A strong second half from Monaleen saw them run out winners on a score line of 6-05 to 0-04. Monaleen now qualify for the U14 Plate Semi Final against Blackrock/Effin on Tuesday 14 May 7pm, venue TBC. TOURNAMENT: U13 Faugh Tournament. A super day of camogie was had at the annual Faughs tournament in Dublin today. Monaleen U13s played 4 great games & played excellent in all of them. In the 1st match Monaleen played a physical tough St Judes of Dublin & came away with a win. We played our second game against 2017 winners Abbeyknockmoy of Galway who held on for the win. In the third match we played last year’s champions Harps from Laois coming away with a win. Finishing second in this tough group qualified us for the B Final against a lively Ballygalget team which Monaleen won. A fantastic achievement. U12 BLITZ: Monaleen U12 red team hosted Murroe Boher Camogie, Croagh/Kilfinny Camogie Club, Ballybrown Camogie Club and Na Piarsaigh GAA (Limerick) Camogie Saturday morning at Peafield road. A great morning of Camogie saw Monaleen come away with 4 wins out of 4. Well done to all teams. Well done to our U12 Monaleen white team who played away in St Patrick’s GAA, coming away with 2 wins out of 3. Super morning of Camogie and great achievement for this young team.
U12 LEAGUE: U12 League starts this week with Monaleen Red away to St Ailbes, throw in at 6:45pm. Monaleen White are at home to Mungret in Peafield Road, throw in at 6:30pm
U10: Well done to Our U10 who played away to Bruff on Thursday, May 9, a great evening of Camogie took place. Best of luck to all of our players playing schools Camogie matches this week.
CONGRATS: Congrats to Ellie Madden who represented Milford School in Primary School football match at half time in Limerick win over Tipperary on Saturday evening in Thurles.
BEST WISHES: We wish Megan O’Mara all the best in her recovery from surgery this week.

Limerick Ladies minor football team, captained by Rachel O’Dell, of Monaleen, who lost to Clare in the Munster final
LIMERICK MINORS: Commiserations to Rachel O’Dell (Captain) of the Limerick Ladies Minor football team who were beaten in the Munster final recently by a very strong Clare team. The match was played in great spirits and was very competitive. While Limerick had a lot of chances the better team probably won out on the day.
U-21: U21 Limerick Ladies football training sessions have commenced and if anyone is interested then please let Audrey know for contact details of the Management team.
The Monaleen U16 Girls Gaelic Football squad
U16 GIRLS: U16 Girls team lost out in the county final on sunday to a strong Galtee Gaels side. Monaleen were in with a chance up until close to the end of the match when the opposition ran out winners. The girls did Monaleen proud and will hopefully stick with it again for another year. Some of the older girls have started training with the Junior side and that is a great sign of things to come.
U14 GIRLS: U14 Girls team beat Dromin Athlacca in their county semi final and will now play the winners of Fr Caseys vs St Ailbes. The final to be played next weekend. We wish the team and management all the best.
WELL DONE: On Wednesday last there was a great evening of football played out between Monaleen and Mungret. In all there were 33 U10 ‘s and 11 U8’s from Monaleen. Well done to all involved and there was a good crowd watching it.

CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Ellie Madden who recently represented Limerick Primary Schools. The team had a match at half time during the recent Limerick vs Tipperary Senior game at Semple Stadium, Thurles
G4M&Os: The G4M&O’s are in full swing again and played a match against St Pats last week. They are training every Wednesday evenings and all newcomers are welcome.
JUNIORS: Finally the Junior side have started their League and Championship campaigns. This weekend sees them up against their old rivals Gerald Griffins. The squad has changed since then with the addition of some of the minor and now u16 players. Having been beaten in the County final for the last 2 years they have already made a strong start to this years campaign and they are hoping to go one better and win one or both of the campaigns this year.
TRAINING: Adults , Minors and u16’s will train together through the summer on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
