By Paul Shaughnessy Limerick Leader Sport

ROUND five of the Limerick senior hurling championship takes place this Sunday September 22.

Group two of the Limerick SHC is set for a fascinating weekend of action. All three games take place on Sunday at 1:45pm

All three games take place on Sunday at 1:45pm. Adare and South Liberties face off in a do-or-die clash in Fedamore. The loser will be relegated to Premier Intermediate ranks for 2025.

Adare need a draw or victory to retain their senior status, while the only way South Liberties can avoid relegation is by winning this game. The other four teams remain in the hunt to reach the quarter-finals .

Ballybrown take on Dromin-Athlacca in Claughaun. Ballybrown sit top of Group 2 and the city side need a draw or a victory to reach the last six and to advance into group one of the SHC for the 2025 season. Dromin Athlacca can no longer be promoted to the senior ranks but if last year’s premier intermediate champions were to defeat Ballybrown, they could reach the quarter-finals ahead of Ballybrown on the head-to -head rule.

Monaleen face Kildimo Pallaskenry in Mungret. Monaleen sit in second place on six points, while Kildimo Pallaskenry are just behind them on five points. The Castletroy side just need a victory to reach the last six of the senior championship. Eoin Brislane’s charges will need a victory and Balybrown to be defeated by Dromin Athlacca or that game to finish level if Monaleen are make the jump to group one of the SHC.

Kildimo Pallaskenry will need to win against Monaleen and the City side will need Dromin Athlacca to defeat Ballybrown if they are make the jump back up to group one.

If Natal O’Grady’s side drew with Monaleen at the weekend and Dromin Athlacca defeated Ballybrown then that would leave three teams on six points.A mini-league score difference table would emerge between Kildimo Pallaskenry, Ballybrown and Dromin Athlacca. The team with the best scoring difference would finish in second place of group two.

The top two teams in group two will join Patrickswell and Kilmallock in the quarter-finals of the SHC.

The team that finishes top of group two will then take Mungret St Paul’s place in group one of the SHC for the 2025 season.

The quarter-finals take place on the weekend of October 5 and 6. Doon and Na Piarsaigh await the winners in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Effin and Newcastle West face off in a top of the table clash in the premier intermediate hurling championship in Feenagh at 4:15pm. The Magpies remain unbeaten in the PIHC and sit on ten points, while Effin are just behind them on eight points.
