By John Keogh
LIMERICK senior hurlers are basking in further glory after they were named as RTÉ Sport’s Team of the Year for 2023 on Saturday evening.
John Kiely’s men were honoured at the awards ceremony and won the award ahead of the likes of the Dublin footballers, Munster Rugby, the Irish rugby team and Shamrock Rovers.
Limerick captain Declan Hannon, defenders Barry Nash and Dan Morrissey were at the event to pick up the award on behalf of the rest of the panel of players.
The gong is the latest that the hurlers have received following a red letter season that yielded the Allianz Hurling League, Munster SHC title and a fourth All-Ireland crown in-a-row.
The other winners on the night were Rhys McClenaghan (Sportsperson of the Year), Andy Farrell (Manager of the Year), Evan Ferguson (Young Sportsperson of the Year), Jason Smyth (Hall of Fame).
The hurlers are soon back in action when they face Clare in the Co-op Superstores Munster Senior League on Tuesday, January 2. They then play Cork in their second game on Sunday, January 7.
