KNOCKADERRY GAA CLUB NOTES

JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 1993
On Saturday, September 25th 1993 at 3pm in Ballingarry, Knockaderry played Drom Broadford in the West Junior Hurling Final unfortunately it was not to be Knockaderrys day. Sponsors of the competition were Trustees Savings Bank,
NCW. Knockaderry GAA produced a fine informative programme. Referee on the day was David O Keeffe, Ballingarry. Knockaderry’s captain was Paddy
Copse from Ballyfrawley, Trainer and Coach was Mike O Connor formly Ardagh now residing in Ballinakill, Selectors were Pat Condon, Ted Mc Grath and Johnny Corkery Snr. Just a few snippets from this Knockaderry team, This was
their 15th West Junior Hurling Final. On match day there was 5 sets of brothers, 3 Copses, Paddy, Ger and Donie, 2 Moloneys Kieran and Darragh, 2 Powers John and Eamon, 2 Collums Sean and Liam and 2 Condons John and Richard. A big loss on the day was Mike O Connor,Ballykennedy who was residing in Australia at the time. Ted Mc Grath and Johnny Corkery had a son each on the team, Brendan and Johnny Jnr. Up to that day Knockaderry had won five West
Junior Hurling titles. Mike Downes represented Knockaderry and Limerick at Minor Hurling in 1993, he wore number 12 on his back that day. Ciaran Moloney and Mike Downes were on the Western Gaels Hurling Team of 1993.
Mike Henessey played with number 10 on his back that day and he surly holds the record at underage for goals scored, up to that day Mike scored 17 goals against Rathkeale while playing full forward in an U14 game, has that record ever being beaten ??
