KILTEELY-DROMKEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

Limerick Senior Hurling:
Well done to Brian O’Grady and the Limerick hurlers who well and truly blew away any cobwebs on Sunday with a huge win over Kerry in the Munster Hurling League Semi-final. Brian gave a fine display, complete with 3 excellent points from play.
Limerick now play Clare in the final next weekend with date/ time/venue tbc. With attendance limits be sure to get your tickets early online as it will sell out.
Fitzgibbon Cup Hurling
Best of luck to the Brian O’Grady and the UL hurlers in Fitzgibbon Cup action vs TUS Midwest (LIT) on Thursday 20th January at 7pm in UL. With many other local players also involved, this huge Limerick derby makes for an exciting contest. Free entry.
R.I.P. Ashling Murphy
As a club community we all now share in the sadness, shock and anger of the senseless killing of Ashling Murphy. A talented and wonderful young woman in the very early years of her life and career. We wish to express our sympathies by holding a candle lit vigil at 7pm on Wednesday the 19th January at the GAA field.
Our floodlights will be on from 7-8.30pm and we have worked to extend the walking area of our grounds to create a walking path on the night and for the following weeks as part of the Ireland Lights up/ Every Step Counts campaign. Please join us Wednesday night coming from 7pm. Everyone is more than welcome to join. May Ashling rest in peace.
Ireland Light Up! – GAA Healthy Club Initiative
Our club year is off to a great start with the news that we have been successful in joining the next phase of the GAA Healthy Club Project! To start off we will be taking part in the GAA Ireland Lights Up campaign in association with Irish life Insurance and Operation Transformation. While our plans to create a walking track around our pitch are in the works, we would like to get the ball rolling by inviting you to participate. From Wednesday 19th January and every Wednesday, 7pm – 8.30pm we will have our floodlights on and we have increased our walking area around the pitch.
As an extra incentive Irish Life are running the ‘My Life – Every Step Counts Challenge’. The target is for a club and its members to walk 4,000 Kms (the distance around Ireland). All successful clubs will be entered in a draw for O’Neils prize vouchers. The challenge lasts for 5 weeks from Wednesday 12th January to 16th February. The kms can be tracked anywhere e.g. fitbit, strava. Please download the ‘My Life by Irish Life’ App and select Kilteely Dromkeen GAA club to enter your distances.
This is the first of many exciting initiatives we hope to roll out as part of our Healthy Club project. Of course, these things don’t just magically happen so a committee will be needed. If you would like to get involved in helping out and encouraging healthy living within our club and community, please contact James at 0879646197 for more info. Thanks.
