KILTEELY-DROMKEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
Paddy Lyons Rip
The Club is saddened by the recent passing of Paddy Lyons, Cloverfield, who gave many years of service both on and off the field to Kilteely Dromkeen GAA.
Paddy was teak tough on the field of play in both hurling and football throughout the 1950’s and into the early 60’s and was part of a notable full back line alongside Dan Murphy and Jackie McGrath in both East and South division championships of that era. Paddy also lined out in the Club colours in the many highly popular hurling tournaments that took place across the County and notably in Hospital & Ballylanders.
With his playing days over, Paddy was an important part of the 1972 County Junior Hurling championship winning side’s management team acting as one of the selectors on one of the Club’s most famous days. Paddy went on to serve as Bord na nOg Chairman and in 1973 and was centrally involved in the Feile na nGael which was held in Limerick in ‘73&4. Paddy was part of the Club organising committee ensuring that our visitors from Carnew(Wicklow) and Athboy(Meath) were well catered for and that our Club was well represented in the grand parade in Limerick City.
Paddy continued his support of both Club and County throughout his life and was a regular presence on side lines offering his support and quiet words of wisdom.
Pre-deceased by his parents, Molly and Jack, and his brothers Jimmy and Johnny, the Club would like to extend our sympathies to the Lyons family- Paddy’s brothers Michael and Joe, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and neighbours in Cloverfield and Dromkeen.
May he Rest In Peace.
