County Junior A Football League Final

KDGAA 3-03 Monaleen 1-10

An injury time free condemned us to a one-point defeat in Martinstown on Friday evening.

We had started brightly but we didn’t have our shooting boots on as we registered six wades with the aid of the swirling breeze. Monaleen took a one-point lead before Denis O’Dea equalised. A brilliant long ball from Denny Ahern found the inrushing John Connery who palmed to the net. Monaleen added a couple of points before John Connery again expertly found the net. The game was following a familiar pattern as Monaleen goaled before the move of the game saw Paudie Ahern burst through to ripple the net. We lead at half time 3.1 to 1.3, would it be enough given the strengthening breeze ?.

Monaleen quickly answered that question as they fired over four unanswered point to level proceedings with 15 minutes remaining. A superb free from Denis O’Dea saw us regain the lead but two Monaleen points saw us behind for the first time. Our boys battelled hard to draw level again through another Denis O’Dea free but that injury time free saw us suffer a narrow defeat.
