Hospital and Doon finishes all square in round two of Dr Harty Cup:

JOHN The Baptist College and Scoil na Trionóide Naofa played out a 1-14 to 0-17 draw in round two of the Dr Harty Cup in Kilteely on Wednesday afternoon.
Doon dominated the opening period and went in ahead at the break and Hospital battled back in the end to earn a draw.
Hospital recorded an impressive victory in round one of the compettion against Rice College Ennis. CBC Cork comfortably defeated Doon in the other game in round one.
The east Limerick side started brightly with the aid of a strong breeze. Captain Sean McDonnell drove forward to set up centre half forward Brian Buckley for the opening score. Buckley turned provider when he set up Doon clubman Conor Kenny for the opening goal of the game.
Hugh Flanagan settled things down for the South Limerick side when he nailed a placed ball. Limerick minor hurling captain Diarmuid Hurley played a clever crossfield pass to Flanagan. The Garryspillane sharpshooter made it 1-1 to 0-2 on eight minutes.
Diarmuid McCarthy’s side responded excellently by hitting the next five points in a seven minute period. Sean Hayes and Darragh Coughlan impressed scoring 0-2 each in that period, while Brian Buckley chipped in with a score from open play.
Hospital nearly worked a goal chance of their own on 17 minutes but the Doon defence stood tall and Griffin McCaffrey’s shot just went over the bar.
Buckley added his second point of the day and then Doon man Diarmuid Crowe landed his first free to push them 1-8 to 0-3 in front.

Flanagan and Hurley were the standout performers for Michael Martin’s charges in the opening period and they reduced the gap for their side on 21 minutes.
Diarmuid Crowe and Hugh Flanagan both swapped frees towards the end of the first half. Doon captain Sean McDonnell made an impressive run from the half back line and McDonell tapped over a neat point and his side led 1-11 to 0-7 at the break.
John The Baptist needed a response if they were turn this game around. Bruff clubman Charlie Cronin got the scoring underway for Hospital 12 seonds into the second half.
Crowe replied courtesy of another placed ball to extend his team’s lead out to seven points. Hospital rallied the troops and they were starting to make advantage of the strong breeze. First, Hurley pointed from a difficult angle and then Flanagan proved his accuracy from the dead ball scoring 0-2 in-a-row.
Scoil Na Trionóide Naofa needed a response and they were finding it difficult to get scores on the board against the breeze.The lively Darragh Coughlan gave his school some breathing space on 41 minutes. Doon led 1-13 to 0-11.
Hugh Flanagan was once again proving crucial to Hospital. The Limerick U20 star hit the next three points in-a-row which meant John The Baptist trailed 1-13 to 0-14 on 53 minutes.
A minute later, Charlie Cronin was off the mark for the second time of the day to reduce the gap to the minimium. Hospital were committing bodies forward and full back Shane Treacy drove over an inspirational effort from out on the sideline to level matters with seven minutes remaing in the second half.
Diarmuid Crowe held his composure and Doon ended their 16 minute scoring drought. Doon led 1-14 to 0-16. Two minutes into injury time, referee Sean Carey awarded a free. Flanagan stepped up and he made no mistake to level the game for the second time.
In the end, both sides had to settle for a draw. Hospital will look to continue their unbeaten record against CBC Cork in round three, while Doon will aim to get their first win of the campaign against Rice College, Ennis.
