As the countdown to the start of the Allianz hurling leagues continues to gather pace, here are the hurlers that impressed us in the subsidiary competitions over the weekend…

1. Patrick Collins (Cork)

It was a day to forget for Cork hurling at Austin Stack Park but their netminder was one of the few players who did themselves justice.

2. Tom Condon (Limerick)

Condon and his defensive colleagues successfully nullified the threat of the Clare attack in the Gaelic Grounds.

3. Seamus Hickey (Limerick)

Hickey was also very much to the fore as John Kiely’s charges got their hands on the Munster SHL silverware.

4. Richie English (Limerick)

It’s a clean sweep for the Limerick full-back line which proved to be the rock on which many a Banner County attack perished.

5. Cillian Buckley (Kilkenny)

The Cats captain played a prominent role in the half-back line as they saw off the spirited Walsh Cup challenge of Offaly in O’Connor Park.

6. Bryan Murphy (Kerry)

The Kingdom registered a first competitive win over Cork since 1891 and Murphy was outstanding in their half-back line.

7. Kevin Foley (Wexford)

Foley caught the eye as the Model County capitalised on their numerical advantage against Dublin in Parnell Park.

8. Paul Browne (Limerick)

Along with his midfield partner Cian Lynch, Browne, who deputised as captain for the injured Declan Hannon, supplied the Treaty County forwards with plenty of ammunition.

9. Brandon Barrett (Kerry)

Midfielder Barrett was one of eight players who made the scoresheet in their memorable victory over the Rebel County.

10. Tom Morrissey (Limerick)

Morrissey raised four white flags against Clare and walked away with the ‘man-of-the-match’ award for good measure.

11. Fergal Whitely (Dublin)

Whitely produced an industrious showing against the Model County which yielded three points from play.

12. Richie Leahy (Kilkenny)

Along with his half-forward line colleague Richie Reid, Leahy contributed four points to the Kilkenny cause against Offaly.

13. Cathal Dunbar (Wexford)

Dunbar’s expertly finished goal was a decisive moment in Davy Fitzgerald’s side’s win over Dublin.

14. Shane Kinsella (Offaly)

The Faithful County forward pick-pocketed Kilkenny to the tune of 1-3.

15. Shane Conway (Kerry)

Conway took the scoring honours for the Kingdom with 0-10 (0-4 frees) while Padraig Boyle and Colm Harty also impressed up front for Fintan O’Connor’s side.

Congratulations to the five Limerick players selected, Tom Condon, Seamus Hickey, Richie English, Paul Browne and Tom Morrissey
