Third Straight Win for Granagh Ballingarry Junior B’s:
West Junior B Hurling League Group 1 Round 3
Granagh Ballingarry 2-17 Knockaderry 2-9
Granagh Ballingarry recorded their third straight win in group 1 of the West Junior B Hurling league in ideal conditions at Ballingarry on Friday evening with an impressive eight-point victory over gallant neighbours Knockaderry to go top of the table on six points and sweet revenge for last years one point West Championship final defeat. A good crowd watched this third round Junior B league clash of great rivals and neighbours played on an excellent pitch with Joe Mulcahy of Killeady in charge. Knockaderry’s no.12 Ronan Keating from a placed ball and Granagh Ballingarry no.9 Edward Sheehy from open play traded white flags in the opening two minutes before Brian Sheehy following a good solo run split the uprights to put Granagh Ballingarry ahead 0-2 to 0-1 on three minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before JJ Condon finished past Granagh Ballingarry keeper Keith O’Kelly on 5 minutes and Liam Molyneaux followed up a minute later with a well taken point from open play to leave Knockaderry boys three ahead 1-2 to 0-2 on 6 minutes Granagh Ballingarry dominated the next 9 minutes with five unanswered white flags through Eoin Lynch (free) on 7 minutes, Eoin Horgan (play) on 8 minutes, Brian Sheehy a minute later to leave the home side two ahead 0-7 to 1-2 at the end of the first quarter. The next ten minutes was all Knockaderry with a pointed free by Ronan Keating on 17 minutes followed by a cracking Brendan Guiry goal on 18 minutes and white flags by Ronan Keating from a well-placed ball on 22 minutes Liam Molyneaux from open play three minutes later to leave the visitors four ahead 2-5 to 0-7 on 25 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before the youthful Eoin Horgan finally ended 13 minutes without a Granagh Ballingarry scare when he split the uprights for the second time from open play on 29 minutes to reduce the deficit to three Knockaderry 2-5 Granagh Ballingarry 0-8 at the interval.
Granagh Ballingarry dominated the opening nine minutes after the interval with a point from a placed ball by Eoin Lynch on 36 minutes followed by a cracking goal by substitute Gearoid Lynch on 33 minutes and white flags by John O’Grady (play) on 35 minutes, Eoin Lynch (free) on 37 minutes, Ronan Mullane (play) on 39 minutes before points were traded by Ronan Keating from a placed ball 41 minutes and Brian Sheehy from open play on 43 minutes to leave four between sides Granagh Ballingarry 1-13 Knockaderry 2-6. A couple of wides were exchanged before Granagh Ballingarry no.5 Ronan Mullane split he uprights for the second time from open play on 45 minutes and Eoin Lynch split the uprights from a placed ball three minutes later to extend the boys in black and green advantage to six 1-15 to 2-6 on 48 minutes. Then Eamonn Fitzgerald on 50 minutes and Ronan Keating on 53 minutes won points back from open play for the visitors to reduce the deficit to five 1-16 to 2-8. A couple of wides were exchanged, substitute Richie O’Keeffe of Granagh Ballingarry split the uprights from a placed ball on 57 minutes and raised a green flag two minutes later to increase the home sides advantage to nine with one minute of normal time remaining on the clock. Ronan Keating had a late point from play for the visitors to bring his tally for the game to 0-6 (4 free’s, 2 play) which was too little too late for the Knockaderry as referee Joe Mulcahy Joe Mulcahy sounded the final whistle from the pack-out to leave the home side Granagh Ballingarry impressive eight point 2-17 to 2-9 winners of their third straight braise of points in group 1 of the West Junior B Hurling League to go top of the group on 6 points and sweet revenge for last years one point West Championship final defeat at the hands of the Knockaderry boys and can now look forward to the next round on this Sunday 7th May when they travel to Tournafulla to play the home side at 7.30pm. Granagh Ballingarry scored 2-12 from play and 0-4 from frees.

Hard luck to the Limerick minor hurlers who suffered their first defeat in the Munster Championship when going under to Cork by three points 0-20 to 1-14 in the fifth and final group stage game after a thrilling contest at Páir na nGaelon Tuesday evening. Cork, Limerick and Clare finished level on 6points with Cork advancing to the Munster final on scoringdifferential while Limerick played Clare in the semi-final on Tuesday 2nd May in Cusack Park, Ennis. No result at time of going to print.

Congratulations to the Limerick Minor Footballers and their management team who recorded their second win in the third a final group stage game in phase 1 of the Munster Championship at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Thursday evening to finish second on four points two behind Tipperary who they play in the phase 1 Munster Minor Football Championship final on Thursday 11th May time and venue to be confirmed.

Limerick made their exit from the Munster U-20 hurling championship following a one point 1-19 to 0-21 defeat to Cork on Friday evening at Pairc na nGael. Limerick led by three 0-12 to 1-6 at the interval. Cork upped their game in the second half and were level with the Shannonsiders before a late Ben Cunningham point saw the Cork boys through to a Munster final meeting with Tipperary or Clare on Monday 15th May.

Hard luck to the Limerick senior hurlers and their management team when they suffered their first Munster Championship defeat since going under to Tipperary 1-22 to 0-21 at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday 16th June 2019, when going under to neighbours Clare by a point, 1-24 to 2-20 in front of over 30,000 at Pairc nan Gael on Saturday evening. Limerick will now have to regroup ahead of the next round against Tipperary on Sunday 21st May at 4pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles, where a victory will see them back in contention for a fifth final spot in a row.

West Junior B Hurling League Group 1 Round 4:
Granagh/Ballingarry will aim for a fourth straight win in group 1 of the West Junior B Hurling League and a semi-final spot when they clash with Tournafulla on Sunday 7th May in Tournafulla at 7.30pm. Your support for the boys in black and green would be appreciated.

West Senior Hurling League Championship Round 6 and 3:
A busy few days of action was ahead for Granagh/Ballingarry in the West Senior Hurling League/Championship this Saturday 6th May they play neighbours Knockaderry in Knockaderry at 7.30pm and three days later on Tuesday 9th May they travel to Coolcappa to play the home side St. Kieran’s at 7.30pm. Two exciting games are in prospect so come and support the boys in black and green and their management team on both evenings in their bid to continue their unbeaten run in the West Senior Hurling League/Championship and qualify for the semi-final.

Granagh/Ballingarry players membership can still be renewed online at www.foireann.ie Any players not currently registered who incur any injury will not be covered by GAA insurance and will have to cover all costs including medical and loss of earnings. There was no winner of the €9,600 jackpot in the Granagh Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday 29th April in Buckley’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 4, 15, 23 and 29.
