JOHN MORRISSEY INSPIRES BALLYHEA!

The brilliance of John Morrissey wearing the No. 11 shirt, scoring nine points of which four was from open play, helped enormously towards a hard fought five-point victory for North Cork side Ballyhea over gallant Granagh/Ballingarry to claim their first Dunworth Cup title at Ballingarry on Sunday evening.
A big crowd watched this 26th Dunworth Cup Final played on an excellent pitch with Michael Browne of Dromcollogher/Broadford in charge.
The opening five minutes in this 26th Dunworth Cup Final were close and exciting with points traded by John Morrissey play and Seán O’Connor play, Maurice O’Sullivan free and Gearóid Lynch play, Seán O’Connor free and Den Copps free, before a pair of white flags from open play for Ballyhea courtesy of John Morrissey on six minutes later to leave the visitors two ahead 0-5 to 0-3 on eight minutes.
The home side Granagh/Ballingarry dominated the seven minutes with a trio of white flags courtesy of David Condron (play) and Seán O’Connor (two frees) to leave Granagh/Ballingarry one ahead 0-6 to 0-5 at the end of the first quarter at the first water break.
On the resumption of play white flags were traded by Eugene O’Leary on 16 minutes and Cathal O’Keeffe on 18 minutes before a trio of white flags for Ballyhea from open play through John Morrissey on 19 and 20 minutes and Maurice O’Sullivan on 22 minutes followed by a cracking James Horgan goal three minutes later to leave the North Cork boys Ballyhea five ahead, 1-9 to 0-7 on 25 minutes. The then white flags were traded from open play by Michael Russell on 26 minutes and Tiernan Hanley on 27 minutes before Hanley pointed again for Ballyhea a minute later to leave six between the sides, Ballyhea 1-11, Granagh/Ballingarry 0-8 on 28 minutes. Granagh/Ballingarry finished this well contested open half strong with 1-1 from frees by Seán O’Connor to reduce the deficit to two, Ballyhea 1-11, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-9 at the interval.
Granagh/Ballingarry’s No. 11 Cathal O’Keeffe closed the gap to one with a well taken point in the opening minute after the interval before Dean Copps cut through the Granagh/Ballingarry defence for the Ballyhea boys’ second goal three minutes later to leave four between the sides, Ballyhea 2-11, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-10 on 34 minutes. Then Seán O’Connor won a point back for Granagh/Ballingarry from a placed ball on 37 minutes before referee Michael Browne awarded Granagh/Ballingarry a penalty on 39 minutes awarded for a foul on Cathal O’Keeffe saved by keeper Mikey Browne from Seán O’Connor at the expense of a 65 which Seán O’Connor sent between the uprights to close the gap to two, Ballyhea 2-11, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-12 on 40 minutes. Ballyhea now began to up their game with a trio of white flags in the next five minutes through John Morrissey (two frees) and Maurice O’sullivan (play) before a pair of white flags from placed balls by Seán O’Connor on 46 and 47 minutes were cancelled out by John Morrissey on 48 and 50 minutes to leave five between the sides, Ballyhea 2-16, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-14 with ten minutes of normal time remaining on the clock. The Seán O’Connor of Graqnagh/Ballingarry split the uprights following a good solo run on 52 minutes before white flags were traded by man of the match John Morrissey of Ballyhea from a placed ball on 55 minutes to bring his tally for the game to nine points and Cathal O’Keeffe from open play two minutes later to leave four between the sides, Ballyhea 2-17, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-16, on 57 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before Ballyhea’s No. 18 Jack Barrett split the uprights one minute into added time to leave the North Cork boys Ballyhea deserving winners by five points, 2-18 to 1-16 of the Dunworth Cup for the first time in the 26th year of the tournament after a most enjoyable hard fought 37-score contest. Ballyhea scored 2-12 from play and 0-6 from frees. Granagh/Ballingarry scored 0-7 from play and 1-8 from frees and 0-1 from a 65.

Presentation
After the game Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club Secretary/PRO John Lynch presented the Dunworth Cup to winning captain Maurice O’Sullivan of Ballyhea and sponsor Dinny Ahern of Dinny A’s Bar, Ballingarry presented the medals and the Man of the Match to John Morrissey of Ballyhea who finished with a personal tally of 0-9. County U19B Football Championship
Group 1 Round 3
Granagh/Ballingarry’s opening two games in Group 1 of the County U19B Football Championship against Belville Gaels and St. Senan’s were cancelled for good reason. Granagh/Ballingarry will now commence their championship campaign away to Mungret/St. Paul’s on Tuesday 17th August at 7pm. The championship is being played on an all-county basis this year away from the divisions and 13 teams have intimated they will take part. There is one group of four and three groups of three with the top two teams in each to qualify for the County Quarter Finals.
Group 1: Belville Gaels v Granagh/Ballingarry; St. Senan’s v Mungret/St. Paul’s.
Group 2: Knockaderry, Shannon Gaels, Dromcollogher/Broadford.
Group 3: Banogue, Claughaun, Kildimp/Pallaskenry.
Group 4: Caherconlish, Ballybricken/Bohermore, Pallasgreen.

West Junior B Football Championship
Nine teams have intimated they will take part in this season’s West Limerick Junior B Football Championship. There is one group of five and one group of three with the top two teams in each group to qualify for the semi finals.
Group 1: Mountcollins, St. Senans, Ballysteen, Athea, St. Kieran’s.
Group 2: Knockaderry, Granagh/Ballingarry, Newcastlewest, Glin.
Granagh/Ballingarry open their Group 2 campaign on Wednesday 18th against neighbours Knockaderry at 7.15pm Venue to be confirmed.
West Junior B Hurling Championship
13 teams have intimated they will take part in this season’s West Junior B Hurling Championship. There is one group of four and three groups of three with the top two teams in each group to qualify for the Quarter Finals.
Group 1: Feenagh/Kilmeedy, Newcastlewest, Tournafulla and Feohanagh/Castlemahon.
Group 2: Knockaderry, Monagea, Dromcollogher/Broadford.
Group 3: Granagh/Ballingarry, Adare, Askeaton.
Group 4: Templeglantine, Croagh/Kilfinny, Killeedy.
Granagh/Ballingarry will commence their Group 3 campaign on Saturday 18th September when they clash with Adare at 3pm. Venue to be confirmed.
Limerick bid for first minor title since 1956
The best of luck to the Limerick minor footballs and their management team in their bid to claim a first Munster Championship title a first since 1956 against Cork on today Wednesday 11th August in Semple Stadium, Thurles at 7.30pm.
Limerick make third final in four seasons
Hearty congratulations to the Limerick senior hurlers manager John Kiely, our own Donal O’Grady and the other members of the management team on their impressive 1-25 to 0-17 victory over gallant Waterford at Croke Park on Sunday to qualify for their third All Ireland Final in four seasons against neighbours Cork on Sunday 22nd August in Croke Park at 3.30pm.
In this the first ever Limerick v Cork All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final the boys in green and white will be aiming for their tenth and first ever back-to-back title, and Cork their 31st and a first since 2005.
All Ireland Hurling Final Tickets
The Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club will receive a limited allocation of tickets for the Limerick v Cork All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final on Sunday 22nd August in Croke Park at 3.30pm. We are inviting paid-up club members who are interested in going to the game to contact club secretary John Lynch by email only to secretary.granaghballingarry.limerickatgaa.ie on or before this Friday August 14th at 8pm. The following club members will have first option to buy tickets: officers of the Senior and Bord na nÓg teams club and county draw promoters, lottery committee and the first aid officers. The remaining tickets will be drawn between paid-up club members of the club draw. Members are asked for patience and understanding in the run-up to the final. Unfair and unrealistic demands will be dismissed, so that as many members as possible can be accommodated. We have been advised that there will be no family or student tickets available. All winners of tickets will be contacted regarding collection and payment.
We look forward to the co-operation of all to implement the sale of tickets satisfactorily.
€14,400 Jackpot on Saturday
There was no winner of the €14,300 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club lottery on Saturday August 7th. The members drawn were 10, 14, 22 and 31. Lucky dips of €20 each went to Claire Hehir c/o online, Theresa Mullins promoter O’Gorman’s Shop, Chawke’s Cross, Granagh, Tom Burke promoter Mossie and Pat, Seán Dunworth promoter Conor O’Keeffe.
The next draw for a jackpot of €14,400 will be held on Saturday 14th August. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 and are on sale in local shops and bars and from promoters.
